  • A new actuating mechanism suitable for a micro positioning device is developed using piezo-electric elements. The actuator can make a step movement of 0.5 .mu. m up to 3.5 .mu. m. The step size can be adjusted on demand. By repeating this step action, long distance movement is achieved. Precise positioning can be obtained by combining the coarse motion with the maximum step size and fine motion. Two types of fine motion have been proposed for a driving method. Firstly, feedback control bases on PID is applied. The experimental results for the two method are presented.

  • The present paper concerns the macroscopic overall description of rheologic properties for steel wire and synthetic fibre cables under variable loading actions according to non-linear creep and/or relaxation theory. The general constitutive equations of non-linear creep and/or relaxation of tension elements - cables under one-step and the variable stress or strain inputs using the product and two types of additive approximations of the kernel functions are presented in the paper. The derived non-linear constitutive equations describe a non-linear rheologic behaviour of the cables for a variable stress or strain history using the kernel functions determined only by one-step - constant creep or relaxation tests. The developed constitutive equations enable to simulate and to predict in a general way non-linear rheologic behaviour of the cables under an arbitrary loading or straining history. The derived constitutive equations can be used for the various tension structural elements with the non-linear rheologic properties under uniaxial variable stressing or straining.

  • In this study, we have designed the variable amplitude threshold algorithm that can enhance the accuracy of step count using variable amplitude. This algorithm converts the x, y, z sensor values into a single energy value($E_t$) by using SVM(Signal Vector Magnitude) algorithm and can pick step count out over 99% of accuracy through the peak data detection algorithm and fixed peak threshold. To prove the results, We made the noise filtering with the fixed amplitude threshold from the amplitude of energy value that found out the detection error was increasing, and it's the key idea of the variable amplitude threshold that can be adapted on the continuous data evaluation. The experiment results shows that the variable amplitude threshold algorithm can improve the average step count accuracy up to 98.9% at 10 Hz sampling rate and 99.6% at 20Hz sampling rate.

  • In signal processing applications with highly correlated input signals, subband affine projection algorithm and step size controlling is a good solution for improving the slow convergence rate and large computational complexity of LMS-type algorithms. This paper proposes a subband affine projection algorithm using a variable step size. The proposed method achieves fast convergence rate and small steady-state error with a small computational complexity by combining the SAP and step size controlling in a subband structure. Experimental results on highly correlated input signal show that the proposed method is superior to the conventional methods.

  • The bi-directional pile load test with variable end plate overcomes the shortcoming of the Osterberg cell test. It is possible that the ultimate bearing capacity of the bi-direction can be known by using the loading of the end plate and two step procedures. The first step is to confirming end bearing capacity with variable end plate and the second step is similar to the conventional O-cell test. In the study, To calculate ultimate capacity of bi-directional load test using model with the pile with variable end plate O-cell, operated with end plate of 3 type on sand layer according to the relative density, loose, medium and dense conditions.

  • This paper presents a subband affine projection algorithm with variable step size to improve convergence performance in adaptive filtering applications with long adaptive filters and highly correlated input signals. The proposed algorithm can obtain fast convergence speed and small steady-state error by using different step sizes for each adaptive sub-filter in the subband structure to which polyphase decomposition and noble identity are applied. The step size derived to minimize the mean square error of the adaptive filter at each update time shows better convergence performance than the existing algorithm using a variable step size. In order to confirm the convergence performance of the proposed algorithm, which is superior to the existing algorithm, computer simulations are performed for mean square deviation(MSD) for AR(1) and AR(2) colored input signals considering the system identification model.

  • This study is to constructs the model by the relationship between the most important ones of TPM's step activities which are derived from the result of AHP analysis and the management performance. And it is to analyze whether step activities have impact on corporate performance through the mediating variable from a convergence point. Also it is to choose four step activities - irrational field and loss improvement, preparation and system establishment for the basic conditions of 5S, initial cleaning, loss analysis of facility efficiency - as independent variables, and to analyze the effect of TPM activity level as mediating variable on management performance as dependent variable. According to the analysis, four step activities don't have direct effect on corporate performance but TPM activity level as mediating variable has a full-mediated effect on corporate performance. That is, TPM activity level has been shown to play a role as mediating variable. Therefore, higher recognition of confidence in facility, awareness of self-development and definitive management of individual work shows TPM activity can contribute to corporate performance successfully.

  • Recently a constant-norm constraint equation-error method was proposed to solve the bias problem in adaptive IIR filtering. However, the method adopts a fixed step-size and thus results in slow convergence for a small step-size and significant misadjustment error for a largestep-size. In this paper, we propose a variable step-size (VSS) algorithm that greatly improves convergence properties of the constant-norm constraint equation-error method. The analysis and the simulation results show that the proposed method indeed achieves both fast convergence and small misadjustment error.

  • This paper presents a new power control method for compensating the short term fading of the reverse link channel in the CDMA mobile telephone system. The fixed step closed loop power control which is now adopted in IS-95, is very simple in structure. However, the step size in the closed loop power control is too big for the channel with a small variation or too big for the channel with a small variation or too small for the channel with a large variation. The method presented in this paper has a simple structure and shows a new model employing the combination of the fixed step size method and variable step size method which results in compensatingthe disadvantages mentioned above. This paper also evaluates the performance inthe fundamental channel model.

  • This paper presents a power system harmonic elimination using the mixed adaptive linear neural network and variable step-size leaky least mean square (ADALINE-VSSLLMS) control algorithm based active power filter (APF). The weight vector of ADALINE along with the variable step-size parameter and leakage coefficient of the VSSLLMS algorithm are automatically adjusted to eliminate harmonics from the distorted load current. For all iteration, the VSSLLMS algorithm selects a new rate of convergence for searching and runs the computations. The adopted shunt-hybrid APF (SHAPF) consists of an APF and a series of 7th tuned passive filter connected to each phase. The performance of the proposed ADALINE-VSSLLMS control algorithm employed for SHAPF is analyzed through a simulation in a MATLAB/Simulink environment. Experimental results of a real-time prototype validate the efficacy of the proposed control algorithm.
