To analyze the flow and density variations in debris flows, a two-phase finite volume model simplified with momentum equations was constructed in this study. The Hershel-Buckley rheology model was employed in this model to account for the internal and basal friction of debris flows and was utilized to analyze complex topography and entrainments of basal soil beds. In order to numerically solve the debris flow analysis model, a finite volume model with the Harten-Lax-van Leer-Contact method was used to solve the conservation equation for the debris flow interface. Case studies of circular dam failure, non-Newtonian fluid dam failure, and multiple debris flows were analyzed using the proposed model to evaluate shock absorption capacity, numerical isotropy, model accuracy, and mass conservation. The numerical stability and correctness of the debris flow analysis of this analysis model were proven by the analysis results. Additionally, the rate of debris flow with various rheological properties was systematically simulated, and the effect of debris flow rheological properties on behavior was analyzed.
A comparative study on flux functions for the 2-dimensional Euler equations has been conducted. Explicit 4-stage Runge-Kutta method is used to integrate the equations. Flux functions used in the study are Steger-Warming's, van Leer's, Godunov's, Osher's(physical order and natural order), Roe's, HLLE, AUSM, AUSM+, AUSMPW+ and M-AUSMPW+. The performance of MUSCL limiters and MLP limiters in conjunction with flux functions are compared extensively for steady and unsteady problems.

Numerical analyses were performed using a one-dimensional Euler equation and Godunov Harten-Lax-Van Leer(HLL) Riemann solver in order to study the deceleration characteristics of a 155 mm projectile in a soft recovery system. The soft recovery system consisting of a series of pressure tubes is a system that decelerates the test projectile fired at supersonic speed using a high-pressure gas and filled water inside. Therefore, depending on the gas pressure and the amount of water filling, the deceleration and the exit velocity of the test projectile inside the pressure tube are determined. In this paper, the deceleration characteristics of the test projectile were analyzed according to the gas pressure and water mass filled.

This Paper presents numerical solutions of two-dimensional Euler equations for supersonic steady and unsteady flows with heat addition in a convergent-divergent duct, The Van Leer FVS (flux vector splitting) method in generalized coordinates is employed in order to calculate the inviscid strong shock waves caused by thermal choking. We discuss on transient characteristics, start and unstart phenomena caused by thermal choking, limit of equivalence ratio to avoid thermal choking and fluctuation of specific thrust caused by thermal choking. We prove that thermal choking is a serious problem in view of engine performance.
An efficient Gauss-Seidel time integration scheme is developed for solving the Euler and Navier-Stokes equations on unstructured meshes. Roe's FDS is used for the explicit residual computations and van Leer's FVS for evaluating implicit flux Jacobian. To reduce the memory requirement to a minimum level, off-diagonal flux Jacobian contributions are repeatedly calculated during the Gauss-Seidel sub-iteration process. Computational results based on the present scheme show that approximately $15\%$ of CPU time reduction is achieved while maintaining the memory requirement level to $50-60\%$ of the original Gauss-Seidel scheme.
The thin-layer Navier-Stokes equations are solved for the hypersonic flow over blunt cone configurations with applications to laminar as well as turbulent flows. The equations are expressed in the forms of flux-vector splitting and explicit algorithm. The upwind schemes of Steger-Warming and van Leer are investigated in their ability to accurately predict the heating loads along the surface of the body. A comparison with the second order extensions of these schemes is made and a hybrid scheme incorporating a combination of central differencing and flux-vector-splitting is presented. This scheme is also investigated in its ability to accurately predict heat transfer distributions.

The aim of this work is to analyze high temperature flows around an axisymmetric blunt body taking into account chemical and vibrational non-equilibrium state for air mixture species. For this purpose, a finite volume methodology is employed to determine the supersonic flow parameters around the axisymmetric blunt body. This allows the capture of a shock wave before a blunt body placed in supersonic free stream. The numerical technique uses the flux vector splitting method of Van Leer. Here, adequate time stepping parameters, along with Courant, Friedrich, Lewis coefficient and mesh size level are selected to ensure numerical convergence, sought with an order of $10^{-8}$.
A design method for transonic turbine blades is developed based on Navier-Stokes equations. The present computing process is done on the four separate steps, 1.e., determination of the blade profile, generation of the computational grids, cascade flow simulation and analysis of the computed results in the sense of the aerodynamic performance. The blade shapes are designed using the cubic polynomials under the control of the design parameters. Numerical methods for the flow equations are based on Van-Leer's FVS with an upwind TVD scheme on the finite volume. Applications are made to the VKI transonic rotor blades. Computed results are analyzed with respect to the aerodynamic performance and are compared with the experimental data.
