Numerical investigation on the flow noise reduction due to curved pipe based on wavenumber-frequency analysis in pressure relief valve pipe system (감압 밸브 배관 시스템 내 파수-주파수 분석을 통한 곡관의 유동소음 저감에 대한 수치적 연구)

  • A sudden pressure drop caused by the pressure relief valve acts as a strong noise source and propagates the compressible pressure fluctuation along the pipe wall, which becomes a excitation source of Acoustic Induced Vibration (AIV). Therefore, in this study, the numerical methodology is developed to evaluate the reduction effect of compressible pressure fluctuation due to curved pipe in the pressure relief valve system. To describe the acoustic wave caused by density fluctuation, unsteady compressible Large Eddy Simulation (LES) technique, which is high accuracy numerical method, Smagorinsky-Lilly subgrid scale model is applied. Wavenumber-frequency analysis is performed to extract the compressible pressure fluctuation component, which is propagated along the pipe, from the flow field, and it is based on the wall pressure on the upstream and downstream pipe from the curved pipe. It is shown that the plane wave and the 1st mode component in radial direction are dominant along the downstream direction, and the overall acoustic power was reduced by 3 dB through the curved pipe. From these results, the noise reduction effect caused by curved pipe is confirmed.

Diagnosis of Valve Internal Leakage for Ship Piping System using Acoustic Emission Signal-based Machine Learning Approach (선박용 밸브의 내부 누설 진단을 위한 음향방출신호의 머신러닝 기법 적용 연구)

  • Valve internal leakage is caused by damage to the internal parts of the valve, resulting in accidents and shutdowns of the piping system. This study investigated the possibility of a real-time leak detection method using the acoustic emission (AE) signal generated from the piping system during the internal leakage of a butterfly valve. Datasets of raw time-domain AE signals were collected and postprocessed for each operation mode of the valve in a systematic manner to develop a data-driven model for the detection and classification of internal leakage, by applying machine learning algorithms. The aim of this study was to determine whether it is possible to treat leak detection as a classification problem by applying two classification algorithms: support vector machine (SVM) and convolutional neural network (CNN). The results showed different performances for the algorithms and datasets used. The SVM-based binary classification models, based on feature extraction of data, achieved an overall accuracy of 83% to 90%, while in the case of a multiple classification model, the accuracy was reduced to 66%. By contrast, the CNN-based classification model achieved an accuracy of 99.85%, which is superior to those of any other models based on the SVM algorithm. The results revealed that the SVM classification model requires effective feature extraction of the AE signals to improve the accuracy of multi-class classification. Moreover, the CNN-based classification can be a promising approach to detect both leakage and valve opening as long as the performance of the processor does not degrade.

  • We acquired operating data in an existing steam turbine power plant using analog control system to investigate operation characteristics. We analyzed a load control logic to develop a digital turbine control system. The load control logic is constituted of load target, load reference, loading rate, load limit and admission mode transfer of valve. The result of this paper is utilized to implement a digital turbine control system.

  • This paper describes an application of an air-pulse actuator for vibration control of a framed structure. Dynamic characteristics of the prototype actuator that utilizes an air-jet reaction force pulsated by an electromagnetic valve were investigated to use it as a control actuator. Using a control law based on the sliding mode control theory, experiments of the vibration control were carried out. The experimental results verified the validity of the actuator performance.

  • The engine idle speed mode becomes worse as one drives a vehicle for several years. This is due to ageing of engine and power-train parts. In this case, unstable idle conditions such as engine stall and droop are frequently experienced when the engine gets heavy torque loads due to power steering pump and air conditioning compressor. The objective of this paper is to study on the idle speed control using PID controller under load disturbances. The input of the PID controller is an error of rpm. The output of the PID controller is an ISCV duty cycle. The dSPACE Controller Boards are used to interface with engine. The on-vehicle test is realized using by SIMULINK and BLOCKSETS tools. The real time interface control panel supplied by Control Desk S/W is designed to have good results in engine idle speed control.

  • A field-oriented UHF system for on-line PD monitoring of transformers. is designed, which has been installed inside the oil tank of a transformer by two ways: on-line installing mode through the oil-valve and pre-installing mode through the man hole/hand hole cover. This system has successfully captured long intermittent discharge signals that hadn't been detected through conventional techniques, and solved the problem successfully. The results demonstrate that UHF technique has great advantages for on-line PD monitoring of transformers. By adopting the peak detection technique, it becomes easy and effective for the transplantation of the phase-resolved pattern recognition technique from conventional method to UHF method, and then to realize continuous on-line monitoring, source characterization and trending analysis.

  • EGR(Exhaust Gas Recirculation) is known as the technique reducing the NOx emissions from diesel engine. Low pressure roote and high pressure roote are applied for heavy-duty diesel engine are. In this study, as research for the heavy duty diesel engine equipped with EGR, reduction characteristic of CO, THC, NOx, and PM in HD diesel engines are investigated by applying EGR device. Also, through the experiments using 11 liters, turbocharged diesel engine with EGR valve and intercooler, exhaust gas reduction characteristics were measured as changing in EGR rate according to D-13 mode.

  • Subaortic stenosis in a 2.9kg, 3-month-old pug dog and a 11 kg, 4-month-old Rott -weiler dog showing signs of dyspnea, tachypnea, anorexia, exercise intolerance and depression was diagnosed with electrocardiography, thoracic radiography and ultrasonographic evaluation. In electrocardiography, PR interval widening, R wave amplitude increase in lead II in case 2, ST segment depression and left axis deviation in case 1 and 2 were identified. In thoracic radiographs, enlarged left ventricle and atrium, caudal displacement of left crus of diaphragm and caudal part of cranial mediastinum widening were identified in ventrodorsal view. In lateral view, left ventricular enlargement, secondary dorsal deviation of trachea and post-stenotic dilation of aorta were seen. Also, edematous pulmonary changes were shown in peri-hilar area. In ultrasonographic examination, left ventricular dilatation, pericardial effusion and subaortic valvular ridge were seen with real time B-mode in right parasternal long axis view. Aortic valve regurgitation was identified in color-Doppler mode.

  • In this paper, an antilock brake system (ABS) for commercial vehicles is studied by considering the design of a fuzzy Logic controller with pulse width modulation (PWM). PWM method is used for generating solenoid valve inputs in order to cope with the chattering problem caused by the conventional on/off control The sliding mode observer is designed to estimate the vehicle longitudinal velocity and it is used to calculate the wheel slip ratio. The effectiveness of the proposed control algorithm was validated by simulations performed with a nonlinear 14-DOF vehicle model including the dynamics of the brakes.
