  • The purpose of this paper is construction of PMS with extension of consuming time of battery in the special vehicle system using exact Battery state of charge measurement algorithm. It is possible to use long distance control by RS-485, fast data processing VMEbus. Its computer simulation, experimental tests and application to special vehicle are described.

  • The reliability enhancement is the critical issue in many computer applications, particulary in process control system. In this paper we describe how to achieve the reliability improvement in control system which is based on multiprocessors. The proposed method is accomplished by using the techniques of fault detection which composed by internal and external fault detections, fault isolation for removing the fault propagation, safety action for driving safe input, and fault diagnosis. This approach is experimented and asopted in boiler backup control system constructed by VMEbus system, CPU boards, graphic system, and other interface boards with UNIX operating system.

  • This paper presents the duplex controller operated as master slave for Self Excited Static Type excitation system and the results of operation for duplex digital excitation system. Software is made up duplex multi-tasking control algorithm which is based on VxWorks(real-time OS), preprocessing algorithm for input-output signal, BSP & Device Driver for interfacing hardware and software, and OIS(Operator Interface Station) program, HMI S/W. Master controller and slave controller intercommunicate dominant data to minimize bump when controller switchover from master to slave occurs. Communication between master controller and slave controller is duplicated and communication between OIS and controller is duplicated.   • There is an increasing need to apply artificial intelligence to the real application fields of industry. These include an intelligent process control, an expert machine and a diagnostic and/or maintenance machine. These applications are implemented in AI Languages. It is commonly recognized that AI Languages, such as Common Lisp or Prolog, require a workstation. This is mainly due to the fact that both languages need a large amount of memory space and disk storage space. Workstations are appropriate for a laboratory or office environment. However, they are too bulky to use in the real application fields of industry or business. Also users who apply artificial intelligence to these fields wish to have their own operating systems. We propose a new design method of an intelligent controller which is embedded within equipment and provides easy-to-use tools for artificial intelligence applications. In this paper we describe the new design method of a VMEbus based intelligent controller for artificial intelligence applications and a small operating system which supports Common Lisp and Prolog.

  • 본 논문은 다중마스터 시스템의 버스 공유를 큐잉이론으로 모델링하여 정량화하고 이를 바탕으로 최적화 된 실시간 시스템을 설계하는 방법을 제안하였으며 그 결과를 실측 실험을 통해서 검증하였다. 다중마스터 모드와 슬레이브 모드를 지원하는 마스터를 이용한 다중 마스터 시스템에서 버스의 공유로 인한 지연과 각 작업의 대기 시간은 각각에 대한 모델링을 통해 정량화 할 수 있으며 이를 통하여 최적화된 시스템을 구성할 수 있게 된다. 본 논문의 실험에서는 VMEbus 상에서 3개의 마스터와 그에 종속된 4개의 슬레이브 시스템을 구성하여 각 마스터들의 버스 요구율과 서비스 시간에 따라 버스를 점유하기 위해 기다리는 시간을 정량적으로 분석하였으며 이를 통하여 개선된 시스템은 각 작업의 버스 상에서의 대기 시간을 최소화하고 효과적으로 버스를 공유하므로써 작업 시간 오차와 오류 발생을 최소화 할 수 있음을 보였다.

  • The paper introduces major technical specifications of the Line II railway simulators of Pusan City in Korea. Comparing design specifics of the railway simulators with of the light aircraft Flight Training Device(FTD, the paper reveals commonality of implementation technologies applied to both simulators: Overall configurations and design philosophies are basically the same. In both programs VMEbus computing systems with UNIX are adapted as backbones of the simulators. It is found that the railway simulators are less stringent in real-time requirements than the aircraft FTD, and the railway simulators are designed to be more event-driven and object-oriented. The experiences show that models may be diverse depending on the objects but implementation technologies are about the same. Maximizing portability of implementation technologies is a matter of an organizations strategy of adopting standardized processes and modular technologies available and most economic to them.

  • In this paper, we develop a dual-duplex system which detects a fault by hardware comparator and switches to hot standby redundancy. This system is designed on the basis of MC68000 and can be used in VMEbus. To improve reliability, the dual-duplex system is designed in dual modular redundancy. The failure rate of electrical element is calculated in MILSPEC-217F, and the system RAMS(Reliability, Availiability, Maintainability and Safety) and MTTF(Mean Time to Failure) are evaluated by Markov modeling method. As the evaluation result shows improved reliability, it can be used as a component hardware for a highly reliable control system.

  • As underwater robotic vehicles (URVs) become attractive for more sophisticated underwater tasks, the demand of high performance in terms of accuracy and dexterity has been increased. An autonomous underwater robotic vehicle, ODIN (Omni-Directional Intelligent Navigator) was designed and built at the Autonomous Systems Laboratory of the University of Hawaii in 1991. Since 1991, various studies were conducted on ODIN and have contributed to the advancement in underwater robotics. Its refurbished model ODIN II was based on VxWorks in VMEbus. Recently, ODIN was born again as a PC based system, ODIN III with unique features such as new vehicle system software architecture with an objective-oriented concept, a graphical user interface, and an independent and modular structure using a Dynamic Linking Library (DLL) based on the Windows operating system. ODIN III software architecture offers an ideal environment where various studies for advanced URV technology can be conducted. This paper describes software architecture of ODIN III and presents initial experimental results of fine motion control on ODIN III.

  • This paper deals with the design and implementation of a TCSC (Thyristor Controlled Series Capacitor) simulator, which is a module for an analog type power system simulator. Principally, it presents configuration of controller hardware/software and its experimental results. An analog type power system simulator consists of numerous power system components, such as various types of generator models, scale-downed transmission line modules, transformer models, switches and FACTS (Flexible AC Transmission System) devices. It has been utilized for the verification of the control algorithm and the study of system characteristics analysis. This TCSC simulator is designed for 50% line compensation rate and considered for damping resister characteristic analysis. Its power rate is three phase 380V 20kVA. For hardware extendibility, its controller is designed with VMEBUS and its main CPU is TMS320C32 DSP (Digital Signal Processor). For real time control and communications, its controller is applied to the RTOS (Real Time Operation System) for multi-tasking. This RTOS is uC/OS-II. The experimental results of capacitive mode and inductive mode operations verify the fundamental operations of the TCSC.

  • 포항가속기(PLS) 제어시스템은 선형가속기와 저장 링 제어시스템으로 분산 독립형으로 운영되어 왔다. 각각의 제어시스템의 구성상 상이한 H/W, S/W구조로 인하여 통합제어의 실현을 구현하지 못하여, 빔 운영상의 두 곳의 운전 감시업무로 인한 인력소요의 낭비를 초래하였다. 이러한 점을 개선하기 위한 선형가속기 및 저장 링 제어시스템의 제어알고리즘의 장점만 살려, 통합운전에 필수적으로 필요한 제어 분야만 새롭게 설계된 개선된 제어시스템에 적용하였다. 개선된 제어시스템의 구성은 디바이스제어에서 GUI(Graphic User Interface)단계까지의 3단계의 제어구조에서 SCC(Subsystem Computer Control System)를 생략한 디바이스 제어 컴퓨터와 GUI실현을 위한 상위 컴퓨터로 운영되고 있다. 디바이스 제어 컴퓨터는 VMEbus 구조의 OS-9 ver3.03 real-time OS가 적용되어 있으며, 상위는 SUN Workstation 환경에 UNIX 운영체제에 Rtworks가 적용되었다.
