The Case Study of Co-VE Activities (공동 VE활동의 사례연구)

  • The purpose of VE (Value Engineering) activities is to come to an achievement of building necessary functions at the lowest possible cost. This study unfolds the co-VE activities which occurred between Gas Range and its partner company in the supply of Grill Body. The co-VE activity has accomplished the cost reduction of about 57 million through performing the function deployment of 12 parts and by devising the alternatives.

  • Best value in value engineering has relation to cost and performance. But a severe problem in VE study of a project is to reduce value due to loss of performance, caused by focusing on cost reduction. Also a lack of understanding performance concept, no trial VE workshop as well as cost saving-based policy have not satisfied customer needs. A efficient and practical methodology for accomplishing best value in construction projects is proposed. This study developed a more objective approach for performance measurement approach of mega projects and suggested a systematic process of performance quantitative analysis verifying value improvement. The proposed performance measurement method would be very useful for better communication and consensus between stakeholders and VE team especially through value engineering.

  • In this study, the concepts of integrated VE analysis assessment is introduced in order to achieve "Design for Deterioration performance" in design VE phase. For this purpose, a framework for fuzzy reliability based LCC and value analysis model using fuzzy logic based approach for breakwaters Projects is suggested. It is anticipated that the methodology Proposed in this paper can also be utilized in the design and maintenance phase of other facilities where decision making is made for the fuzzy reliability based life cycle cost and value analysis.

  • In the year of 1980 and 2000, the Korean government institutionalized the Value Engineering methodology in the construction phase and the design phase respectively. While design-phase VE have been applied to construction industry actively, which was institutionalized 7 years ago, construction-phase VE have not been applied to industry frequently, although it was institutionalized 25 years ago. On the other hand, at the time of social demands for VE is increasing, it has been pointed out that VE should be compatible with the delivery system. And the time of VE study, the operational management of VE study, and the maintenance process of the result of the VE study also should be considered. In this study, a scheme to improve VE methodology in the construction industry is proposed based on the literature review and the data analysis of domestic and foreign state of VE.

  • This study enforced function analysis, achievements of ideas and valuations due to VE workshop about " the new construct field of apartment, A-14, Woonjeongjigu, Paju" as the project of a plan VE competition held by the Korea National Housing Corporation, For the results of the research, it was to enforce 163 works of function analysis, 333 items of creating ideas, and 193 achievements of ideas. Besides, VE was proposed about 46 works of increasing values and cost reduction for 103 works and 10,040,000,000 won.

  • This paper studied the design VE (Value Engineering) process among the various methods to satisfy the requirement of user and cost saving in the overall redesign process for the Turn-key base construction project. This study has been estabilished the rational and practical analysis process with the stepwise by using the design VE process. The efficiency and safety were verified with the adoptian of computer simulation to cope with the problem of initial analysis and verification for design VE process in the large construction project. In the previous design VE process, there is a limitation for the analysis of design VE in the planing stage and the execution time period of the large construction project. The previous application of VE technique was only for the construction of harbor facilities, so there was no contribution of cost saving in the function and construction. However, this paper proposed the selection methodology of VE items and hence the redesign VE process can be efficiently improved. It can be also improved the process of functional analysis rationally and practically. About 4.6 billion won has been saved with applying to the harbor construction project with using the VE method proposed in this paper. The study gives the direction of VE to be accomplished efficiently in the similar project.

  • Because effect of value elevation is great as it is fast that construction VE is enforcement, VE at the design phase is more and more important more than construction process phase. But, is exerting negative impact for construction process phase by various problem that happen at design phase, and is causing discord to between project partners. Therefore, quality security in design phase is important first of all. Hereupon, this study emphasized that need VE at the design phase of extension plan forward more and more because achieved process that derive conceptional estimation by quantitative value calculating value index (V) through provision of design function point (F) and LCC expense (C) by comparison method of construction and chooses optimum method of construction through VE/LCC analysis example in improvement of soft soil ground method choice process of design phase.

  • The results of VE (Value Engineering) analyses are highly feasible proposals that are produced by utilizing the experience and knowledge of professionals from a variety of fields. As such, the results of past similar projects can be useful in new projects. On this basis, it is vital to accumulate the historical data of the results on VE analyses performed at every stage, which are functions, ideas, and proposals. In this research, a data formational system for collecting this historic data was established by categorizing 'Item,' 'Function,' 'Idea,' and 'Proposal' according to VE process, and the data retrieval and the adjusting process were proposed. If the historic data of these are accumulated using the suggested method, it is expected to be useful at the stage of VE process.

  • It has been found that implementing the function analysis is very important in terms of accomplishing successful Value Engineering(VE), and the function definition is a basic activity at design VE phase. In spite of the importance, the real function analysis activities in the VE are not regard as consequence. In this regard, this paper attempts to use the campus mater plan to lead an effective function analysis. So, the purpose of this value engineering study is to provide the criteria to develop the campus mater plan. This value engineering study used as a guide for the standardization of the campus mater plan. In addition, broader application is possible through the analysis throughout the different ways of the project.

  • Highly advanced technologies are being adopted into the domestic construction industry in accordance with rapidly changing global construction industry in the 21st century. Value Engineering methodologies have often been discussed but not yet settled in the country. This research, therefore, aims to provide a useful guide to utilizing design Value Engineering in Build Transfer Lease. 1. Questionnaires had been conducted, answered by those in the field. 2. Questionnaires were in regard to the obstacles in the application of design Value Engineering and activation schemes. 3. Five standards were provided to be chosen according to the degree of influence from each factor, whose answers were technically analyzed by a statistical program afterward. 4. Four obstacles classified in this method were approached systematically to analyze the problems. 5. Efficient Activation schemes have been suggested after various analyses in a variety of aspects.
