  • A variable-gain low-voltage low noise amplifier MMIC operating at 5GHz frequency band is designed and implemented using the ETRI 0.5$\mu\textrm{m}$ GaAs MESFET library process. This low noise amplifier is designed to have the variable gain for adaptive antenna array combined in HIPERLAN/2. The feedback circuit of a resistor and channel resistance controlled by the gate voltage of enhancement MESFET is proposed for the variable-gain low noise amplifier consisted of cascaded two stages. The fabricated variable gain amplifier exhibits 5.5GHz center frequency, 14.7dB small signal gain, 10.6dB input return loss, 10.7dB output return loss, 14.4dB variable gain, and 2.98dB noise figure at V$\_$DD/=1.5V, V$\_$GGl/=0.4V, and V$\_$GG2/=0.5V. This low noise amplifier also shows-19.7dBm input PldB, -10dBm IIP3, 52.6dB SFDR, and 9.5mW power consumption.

  • The increasing demand from passengers in vehicles to improve safety, traffic efficiency, and comfort has lead to the growing interest of Wi-Fi based vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) communications. Although the V2I system provides fast and cost-effective Internet connectivity to vehicles via roadside Wi-Fi access points (APs), it suffers from frequent handoffs due to the high mobility of vehicles and the limited coverage of Wi-Fi APs. Recently, the Mobile AP (MAP) platform has emerged as a promising solution that overcomes the problem in the V2I systems. The main advantage is that MAPs may yield longer service duration to the nearby vehicles that have similar mobility patterns, yet they provide smaller link capacities than the roadside APs. In this paper, we present a new association control technique that harnesses available connection duration as well as achievable link bandwidth in high-speed vehicular network environments. We also analyze the tradeoff between two association metrics, namely, available connection duration and achievable link bandwidth. Extensive simulation studies based on real traces demonstrate that our scheme significantly outperforms the previous methods.

  • This paper proposes an adaptive error concealment technique for compressed video. Since redundancy is extracted out during compression process, compressed video is vulnerable to errors which occur during transmission of video over error prone networks such as wireless channels and Internet. Error concealment is a process of reconstructing video out of damaged video bit stream. We proved that scalable encoding is very useful for error concealment. Analysis of experiments shows that some part of image is better concealed by using base layer information and other part of image is better concealed by using previous frame information. We developed a technique which enables to decide which methodology is more effective, adaptively, based on motion vectors and regional spatial activity. We used H.263v2 for scalable encoding, but, our approach could be applied to all DCT based video codec.

  • In this paper, the power efficient linear upconversion mixer which is a functional circuit in transmit path of intermediate frequency(IF) part of Code Division Multiple (CDMA) cellular phone was explained. In generally, the low CMOS devices limits the implementation of upconversion mixer especially for lower loads. Using replica transconductor, the linear range is extended up to the limit. Thiscircuit was imprlemented using $0.8{\mu}\textrm{m}$ N-well CMOS technology with 2-poly/2-metal. The active area of chip is $0.53mm{\times}0.92mm$. The power consumption is 30mW with 3.3V suply voltage. The 1dB conpression characteristics is -27.3dB with $25{\Omega}$. load and being applied by 2-tone input signal. The mixer operates properly above 200MHz.

  • In this paper, we propose a theoretical model for characterization and upper bounds of [1,2]-domination set of network which has tree structure. In detail, we propose a theoretic model for upper bounds on [1,2]-domination set of a tree network which has some typical constrains. To that purpose, we introduce a graph theory to model and analyze the characteristics of tree structure networks. We assume a node subset D of a graph G=(V,E). We define that D is a [1,2]-dominant set if for any node v in set V which is not an element of a set D is adjacent to a node or two nodes of an element in a set D (that is, $1{\leq}{\mid}N({\upsilon}){\bigcap}D{\mid}{\leq}2$ for every node $v{\in}V-D$). The minimum cardinality of a [1,2]-dominating set of G, which is denoted by ${\gamma}_{[1,2]}(G)$, is called the [1,2]-domination number of G. In this paper, we show new upper bounds and characteristics about the [1,2]-domination number of tree.

  • This paper presents a high efficiency DC-DC buck converter for mobile device. The circuit employes simplified compensation circuit for its portability and for high efficiency at stand-by mode. This device operates at PFM mode when it enters stand-by mode(light load). In order to place the compensation circuit on chip, the capacitor multiplier method is employed, such that it can minimize the compensation block size of the error amplifier down to 30%. The measurement results show that the buck converter provides a peak efficiency of 93% on PWM mode, and 92.3% on PFM mode. The converter has been fabricated with a $0.35{\mu}m$ CMOS technology. The input voltage of the buck converter ranges from 2.5V to 3.3V and it generates the output of 3.3V.

  • It is crucial in traffic flow management to maintain productivity and the traffic stability at the same time especially under congested traffic conditions. This issue has not been explicitly addressed under the intelligent transportation system environments. However, the ubiquitous transportation system environments make it possible to collect the data for each vehicle's position and velocity and to perform more sophisticated traffic flow management at individual vehicle or platoon level through V2V and V2I communications. In this paper, a preventive traffic flow management scheme is proposed, in which the objective is to maintain traffic flow stability while the productivity of the system is not decreased. The management scheme is proposed based on Greenshield's model because it is simple and easy to handle. It is considered that further research should be performed to evaluate the various traffic flow models.

  • Vehicular communications have been receiving much attention in intelligent transport systems(ITS) by combining communication technology with automobile industries. In general, vehicular communication can be used for vehicle-to-vehicle(V2V) and vehicle-to-infrastructure( V2I) communication by adopting IEEE802.11p/1609 standard which is commonly known as wireless access in vehicular environment(WAVE). WAVE system transmits signal in 5.835~5.925 GHz frequency band with orthogonal frequency division multiplexing(OFDM) signaling. In this paper, after 32 bit processed the channel monitoring in MAC(Media Access Control) layer of WAVE system implemented according to IEEE 802.11p standard, data were received and we evaluated the performance, we built the test bed consisting of OBU(On Board Unit) in the real expressway. We transmitted WSM(WAVE Short Message) and received WSM between OBU wirelessly. And then, we calculated channel occupancy time per one frame and throughput, and evaluated the performance.

  • The ubiquitous transportation system environments make it possible to collect each vehicle's position and velocity data and to perform more sophisticated traffic flow management at individual vehicle or platoon level through V2V and V2I communications. The VISSIM simulation experiments were performed to address the issues in developing the preventive congestion management algorithm proposed in the companion paper. Traffic flow stability measures were developed based on the platoon profile, which enables us to explicitly consider traffic flow stability in traffic flow management. Traffic flow management strategies according to the traffic flow states were proposed: Maintain the equilibrium speed for free flow state, maintain the traffic flow stability by platoon control for critical state, and surpress the shock wave propagation for congested state. And finally potential benefit of the proposed traffic flow management scheme was evaluated based on the simulation experiment results. It is considered that extensive field experiments should be performed to confirm the simulated results.
