  • Objective: The objectives of this study were to compare the effects of normal and low protein content (PC) of starter diet supplemented or not with blends of branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs) on growth performance of broilers under summer conditions and to investigate whether these effects altered some quality traits and the characteristics of gastrointestinal tract. Methods: A total of 768 mixed-sex broiler chicks (Ross 308, one-d-old) with an average initial body weight (BW) of 47.6±1.03 g were allocated into six treatments with four replications in 2×3 factorial arrangement. Factors were: PC, normal (N, 22% to d 15); and low (L, 20% to d 15); and added BCAA blends, L-leucine, L-isoleucine, and L-valine at zero (0L:0I:0V); 1.0, 0.25, and 0.25 (4L:1I:1V); or 1.0, 0.25, 0.75 (4L:1I:3V) g/kg of diet. Hence, six dietary treatments were named as N0L:0I:0V, N4L:1I:1V, N4L:1I:3V, L0L:0I:0V, L4L:1I:1V, and L4L:1I:3V. Average indoor temperature and humidity were 32.8℃±1.7℃ and 61.1%±4.12%, respectively. Results: BW, feed conversion ratio (FCR) and carcass weight were not affected by PC, BCCA and their interaction (p>0.05). The L diets decreased the water holding capacity of the breast (p = 0.002) and thigh (p = 0.050) meats and dressing percentage (p = 0.005) compared to the N diets. The 4L:1I:1V diet decreased breast yield compared to the 0L:0I:0V diets (p = 0.041). The effect of PC on feed intake, mortality and gastrointestinal trait weight were depended on the L:I:V ratios under summer conditions due to interactions between factors (p<0.05). The FI and mortality of L4L:1I:1V broilers were lower than those of N4L:1I:1V birds (p<0.05). Conclusion: It was concluded that the blends of BCAAs used failed to improve performance and to promote breast yields, because diets with normal or with reduced protein supplemented or not with BCAAs up to d 15 produced a similar BW and FCR in broilers raised in hot-climate conditions.

  • The rate constants for the following vibration-to-vibration energy exchange reactions have been calculated theoretically for the temperature range from 300 to 800K and for n = 2 to 5. HF(v=n) + DF(v=0) ${\to}$ HF(v=n-l) + DF(v=l) + ${\Delta}E$(a) DF(v=n) + HF(v=0) ${\to}$ DF(v=n-l) + HF(v=l) + ${\Delta}E$(b) In calculation the loosely-held, non-rigid dimer collision model and semiclassical method have been employed. The results show that the rate constants for the processes (a) are much greater than those for the processes (b). Also, it is found that the rate constants for the processes (a) increase with decreasing temperature and with increasing quantum number, while those for the processes (b) show the opposite tendencies. These findings are explained in terms of the sign and magnitude of the energy mismatch, ${\Delta}E$.

  • The bioelectrochemical anaerobic digestion for sewage sludge was attempted at different applied voltages ranged from 0.2 V to 0.4 V. At 0.3 V of the applied voltage, pH and VFAs were at 7.32 and 760 mg COD/L, respectively, which were quite stable. The methane production rate was $1.32L\;CH_4/L.d$, and the methane content in biogas was 73.8%, indicating that the performance of the bioelectrochemical anaerobic digestion could be considerably improved by applying a low voltage. At 0.4 V of the applied voltage, however, the contents of the minor VFA components including formic acid and propionic acid were increased. The methane production rate was reduced to $1.24L\;CH_4/L.d$ and the biogas methane content was also reduced to 72.4%. At 0.2 V of the applied voltage, the pH was decreased to 6.3, and VFAs was accumulated to 5,684 mg COD/L. The contents of propionic acid and butyric acid in the VFAs were considerably increased, The performances in terms of the methane production rate and the biogas methane content were deteriorated. The poor performance of the bioelectrochemical reactor at 0.2 V of the applied voltage was ascribed to the thermodynamic potential lack for the driving of the carbon dioxide reduction into methane at cathode.

  • This paper deals with the behavior of positive solutions to the following nonlocal polytropic filtration system $$\{u_t=(\mid(u^{m_1})_x{\mid}^{{p_1}^{-1}}(u^{m_1})_x)_x+u^{l_{11}}{{\int_0}^a}v^{l_{12}}({\xi},t)d{\xi},\;(x,t)\;in\;[0,a]{\times}(0,T),\\{v_t=(\mid(v^{m_2})_x{\mid}^{{p_2}^{-1}}(v^{m_2})_x)_x+v^{l_{22}}{{\int_0}^a}u^{l_{21}}({\xi},t)d{\xi},\;(x,t)\;in\;[0,a]{\times}(0,T)}$$ with nonlinear boundary conditions $u_x{\mid}{_{x=0}}=0$, $u_x{\mid}{_{x=a}}=u^{q_{11}}u^{q_{12}}{\mid}{_{x=a}}$, $v_x{\mid}{_{x=0}}=0$, $v_x|{_{x=a}}=u^{q21}v^{q22}|{_{x=a}}$ and the initial data ($u_0$, $v_0$), where $m_1$, $m_2{\geq}1$, $p_1$, $p_2$ > 1, $l_{11}$, $l_{12}$, $l_{21}$, $l_{22}$, $q_{11}$, $q_{12}$, $q_{21}$, $q_{22}$ > 0. Under appropriate hypotheses, the authors establish local theory of the solutions by a regularization method and prove that the solution either exists globally or blows up in finite time by using a comparison principle.

  • From viewpoints of over-all ship economy the straight framed V-bottom hull forms with chines are considered to be attractive even for usual commercial vessels, because increments of resistance over that of round hull forms, if any, can be well compensated with reduction in construction cost.[1] To investigate the influences of both prismatic coefficient and chine elevation on resistance performance, three models of straight-framed V-bottom hull forms which are similar to Prof. C. Ridgely-Nevitt's W-18, W-8, and W-20[2],[3] in size and hull form coefficients were tested at the SNU Ship Model Towing Tank for resistance measurements. They are of Cp=0.60, 0.65 and 0.70 and of ${\Delta}/(0.01L)^3=300$. Influence of variation of chine elevation on resistance performance were observed with the test results obtained at normal condition, and at the trimed by the stern by 2% and 4% of $L_{bp}$ at normal condition under same displacement. The hull form characteristics are shown in Table 1, and in Fig. 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. The test results are shown in Fig 8, 9 and 10 in the form of Cr vs. $V/\sqrt{L}$ curves taking Cp as a parameter for normal condition, trim by the stern in 2% and 4% $L_{bp}$ at normal condition , respectively. Cr vs. $V/\sqrt{L}$ curves taking trim condition as a parameter are also shown in Fig 11, 12 and 13 for Cp=0.60 and 0.70, respectively. The best and the worst trim condition at given $V/\sqrt{L}$ in viewpoint of Cr are plotted for each Cp-value as shown in Fig 14, 15 and 16. From the above results the following conclusions are derived: (1) In general, the resistance performance of the straight-framed V-bottom hull forms are not inferior to those of round hull forms. At a certain range of $V/\sqrt{L}$ the former gives less resistance than the latter. (2) Regarding influences of Cp on Cr, it is observed that, at $V/\sqrt{L}$ less than about 0.925, the greater Cp-value gives the more increment of Cr, and that, at $V/\sqrt{L}$ greater than about 0.925 the smaller Cp-value gives the more increment of Cr. It is also noteworthy that the model of Cp=0.70 has remarkable hump on Cr vs. $V/\sqrt{L}$ curve between $V/\sqrt{L}=0.80$ and 0.90. (3) For higher speed within the test range, the chine elevation having the steeper slope around bow and the easier slope around amidship and stern, refered to watering, give the better results in resistance performance. (4) Assuming the chine elevations adopted for the tested models were not of the best, we would expect further improvement of resistance performance for such form. Hence, a systematic study on chine elevation is very disirable to prepare design data of general purpose for the such hull forms.

  • Callus cultures of Azadirachta indica flower petals were established on MS medium supplemented with naphthalene acetic acid (1 mg/L), kinetin (0.5 mg/L) and sucrose $(3\%\;w/v)$. Cell cultures of Azadirachta indica were established and studied the growth and production kinetics. Half 85 medium supplemented with dicamba (2 mg/L), kinetin (1 mg/L) and sucrose $(3\%\;w/v)$ was found to be suitable for initiation and maintenance of cell cultures from the calli. MS medium supplemented with naphthalene acetic acid (NAA) (1 mg/L), kinetin (0.5 mg/L) and sucrose $(3\%\;w/v)$ was found to be suitable as production medium. Around $80\%\;(0.05\%\;w/v)$ of azadirachtin was found to be intracellular. The effect of various precursors, elicitors, permeabilizing agents and growth retardants in cell cultures was studied. The addition of precursors sodium acetate (10 mg/L), squalene (10 mg/L), isopentenyl pyrophosphate (1 mg/L) and geranyl pyrophosphate (1 mg/L) to the cell cultures on day 3 has shown significant increase in bioproduction of azadirachtin $(64.94{\pm}4.40\;mg/L,\;72.81{\pm}0.04\;mg/L,\;51.63{\pm}1.26\;mg/L\;and\;30.70{\pm}0.28\;mg/L\;respectively)$ over the control cultures $(4.70{\pm}0.27 mg/L)$. $5\%$ v/v cell extracts of Fusarium solani has shown moderate increase in the content of azadirachtin $(5.71{\pm}0.34\;mg/L)$ when compared to control cultures $(2.40{\pm}0.56\;mg/L)$. The addition of methyl jasmonate $(500\;{\mu}M/L)$ on day 3 has shown $\~4$ fold improvement in bioproduction of azadirachtln $(6.92{\pm}0.11\;mg/L)$ when compared to control cultures $(1.63{\pm}0.02\;mg/L)$. There was no significant effect of the studied growth retardants and permeabilizing agents on bioproduction of azadirachtin. Cells are cultivated in large volumes using the effective precursors.

  • In the present study, the antinociceptive profiles of Viola tricolor L. (V. tricolor L.) extract were examined in ICR mice. V. tricolor L. extract administered orally (200mg/kg) showed an antinociceptive effect as measured by the tail-flick and hot-plate tests. In addition, V. tricolor L. extract attenuated the writhing numbers in the acetic acid-induced writhing test. Furthermore, the cumulative nociceptive response time for intrathecal (i.t.) injection of substance P (0.7 ${\mu}g$) was diminished by V. tricolor L. extract. Intraperitoneal (i.p.) pretreatment with yohimbine (${\alpha}_2$-adrenergic receptor antagonist) attenuated antinociceptive effect induced by V. tricolor L. extract in the writhing test. However, naloxone (opioid receptor antagonist) or methysergide (5-HT serotonergic receptor antagonist) did not affect antinociception induced by V. tricolor L. extract in the writhing test. Our results suggest that V. tricolor L. extract shows an antinociceptive property in various pain models. Furthermore, this antinociceptive effect of V. tricolor L. extract may be mediated by ${\alpha}_2$-adrenergic receptor, but not opioidergic and serotonergic receptors.

  • For the effecient production of clavulanic acid., a mutant strain Streptomyces clavuligerus KK was selected from Streptomyces clavuligerus ATCC 27064 through mutation with NTG. S. clavuligerus ATCC 27064 produced about 200 mg/L of calvulanic acid when the medium was composed of 1%(W/V) glycerol, 1.5%(W/V) soybean flour, 0.1%(W/V) $KH_2PO_4$, 0.2%(V/V) soybean oil. A selected mutant, S. clavuligerus KK, produced about 1150 mg/L of clavulanic acid in the same medium. After the addition of $MgSO_4$ to the basal medium, S. clavuligerus KK produced about 1550 mg/L of clavulanic acid, with shows about 1.3 times higher than that produced in the basal medium. In order to select the proper bioreactor for the production of clavulanic acid, a batch culture was performed in an airlift, a bubble column and an stirred tank bioreactors. In an airlift bioreactor, about 1350 mg/L of clavulanic acid was produced, in a bubble column bioreactor, about 1550 mg/L, in a stirred tank bioreactor, about 2200 mg/L, respectively. The production of clavulanic acid in stirred tank bioreactor was about 50% higer than that by an airlift and a bubble column bioreactors. According to this result, the stirred tank bioreactor was selected as a proper bioreactor.

  • Let ${\mathcal{L}}_2=(-{\Delta})^2+V^2$ be the $Schr{\ddot{o}}dinger$ type operator, where nonnegative potential V belongs to the reverse $H{\ddot{o}}lder$ class $RH_s$, s > n/2. In this paper, we consider the operator $T_{{\alpha},{\beta}}=V^{2{\alpha}}{\mathcal{L}}^{-{\beta}}_2$ and its conjugate $T^*_{{\alpha},{\beta}}$, where $0<{\alpha}{\leq}{\beta}{\leq}1$. We establish the $(L^p,\;L^q)$-boundedness of operator $T_{{\alpha},{\beta}}$ and $T^*_{{\alpha},{\beta}}$, respectively, we also show that $T_{{\alpha},{\beta}}$ is bounded from Hardy type space $H^1_{L_2}({\mathbb{R}}^n)$ into $L^{p_2}({\mathbb{R}}^n)$ and $T^*_{{\alpha},{\beta}}$ is bounded from $L^{p_1}({\mathbb{R}}^n)$ into BMO type space $BMO_{{\mathcal{L}}1}({\mathbb{R}}^n)$, where $p_1={\frac{n}{4({\beta}-{\alpha})}}$, $p_2={\frac{n}{n-4({\beta}-{\alpha})}}$.
