A genome-wide association study of social genetic effects in Landrace pigs

  • Objective: The genetic effects of an individual on the phenotypes of its social partners, such as its pen mates, are known as social genetic effects. This study aims to identify the candidate genes for social (pen-mates') average daily gain (ADG) in pigs by using the genome-wide association approach. Methods: Social ADG (sADG) was the average ADG of unrelated pen-mates (strangers). We used the phenotype data (16,802 records) after correcting for batch (week), sex, pen, number of strangers (1 to 7 pigs) in the pen, full-sib rate (0% to 80%) within pen, and age at the end of the test. A total of 1,041 pigs from Landrace breeds were genotyped using the Illumina PorcineSNP60 v2 BeadChip panel, which comprised 61,565 single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers. After quality control, 909 individuals and 39,837 markers remained for sADG in genome-wide association study. Results: We detected five new SNPs, all on chromosome 6, which have not been associated with social ADG or other growth traits to date. One SNP was inside the prostaglandin $F2{\alpha}$ receptor (PTGFR) gene, another SNP was located 22 kb upstream of gene interferon-induced protein 44 (IFI44), and the last three SNPs were between 161 kb and 191 kb upstream of the EGF latrophilin and seven transmembrane domain-containing protein 1 (ELTD1) gene. PTGFR, IFI44, and ELTD1 were never associated with social interaction and social genetic effects in any of the previous studies. Conclusion: The identification of several genomic regions, and candidate genes associated with social genetic effects reported here, could contribute to a better understanding of the genetic basis of interaction traits for ADG. In conclusion, we suggest that the PTGFR, IFI44, and ELTD1 may be used as a molecular marker for sADG, although their functional effect was not defined yet. Thus, it will be of interest to execute association studies in those genes.

Effect of the Transformed Lactobacillus with Phytase Gene on Pig Production Performance, Nutrient Digestibility, Gut Microbes and Serum Biochemical Indexes

  • In order to improve the availability of phytase and probiotics together, a phytase gene from Aspergillus ficuum has been expressed in Lactobacillus. In this study, the transformed Lactobacillus with phytase gene was fed to pigs to determine its effect on pig production, feed conversion and gut microbes. Forty eight, 60-day-old, castrated pigs (Duroc${\times}$Landrace${\times}$Pietrain) were assigned to 6 groups, 8 pigs for each group. Group 1 was the control, group 2 was added with chlortetracycline (500 mg/kg), group 3 was added with the transformed Lactobacillus (500 mg/kg) with 20% (w/w) of calcium monohydrogen phosphate (CMP, $CaHPO_{4}$) removed, group 4 was added with the natural Lactobacillus (500 mg/kg) with 20% (w/w) of CMP removed, group 5 was added with the transformed Lactobacillus (500 mg/kg) with 40% (w/w) of CMP removed, group 6 was added with phytase (500 mg/kg) with 40% (w/w) of CMP removed. The results showed: i) the average daily gain (ADG) was improved in groups 2, 3 and 4 (p<0.05); ii) the diarrhea rates in the groups added with Lactobacillus were lower than in the other groups (p<0.05), in which the transformed Lactobacillus had more effect on reducing digestive disease; iii) the transformed Lactobacillus was most effective in improving the digestibilities of crude protein (CP), calcium (Ca), phosphorus (P), compared with the other groups (p<0.05); iv) Lactobacillus could increase lactic acid bacterium number and ammonia concentrations, and decrease pH values and E. coli number in pig feces (p<0.05); v) the phytase activity in the feces of pigs fed with the transformed Lactobacillus was 133.32 U/g, which was higher than in group 4 (9.58 U/g, p<0.05), and was almost the same as group 6 (135.94 U/g); vi) the transformed Lactobacillus could increase serum concentrations of IgA, triglyceride, and glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase activity (p<0.05), and had no significant effect on other serum indexes (p>0.05).

  • Boron nitride (BN) films have attracted a growing interest for a variety of t technological applications due to their excellent characteristics, namely hardness, c chemical inertness, and dielectrical behavior, etc. There are two crystalline phases 1551; of BN that are analogous to phases of carbon. Hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) has a a layered s$\sigma$ucture which is spz-bonded structure similar to that of graphite, and is t the stable ordered phase at ambient conditions. Cubic boron nitride (c-BN) has a z zinc blende structure with sp3-bonding like as diamond, 따ld is the metastable phase a at ambient conditions. Among of their prototypes, especially 삼Ie c-BN is an i interesting material because it has almost the same hardness and thermal c conductivity as di없nond. C Conventionally, significant progress has been made in the experimental t techniques for synthesizing BN films using various of the physical vapor deposition 밍ld chemical vapor deposition. But, the major disadvantage of c-BN films is that t they are much more difficult to synthesize than h-BN films due to its narrow s stability phase region, high compression stress, and problem of nitrogen source c control. Recent studies of the metalorganic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) of I III - V compound have established that a molecular level understanding of the d deposition process is mandatory in controlling the selectivity parameters. This led t to the concept of using a single source organometallic precursor, having the c constituent elements in stoichiometric ratio, for MOCVD growth of 삼Ie required b binary compound. I In this study, therefore, we have been carried out the growth of h-BN thin f films on silicon substrates using a single source precursors. Polycrystalline h-BN t thin films were deposited on silicon in the temperature range of $\alpha$)() - 900 $^{\circ}$C from t the organometallic precursors of Boron-Triethylamine complex, (CZHs)3N:BRJ, and T Tris(dimethylamino)Borane, [CH3}zNhB, by supersonic molecular jet and remote p plasma assisted MOCVD. Hydrogen was used as carrier gas, and additional nitrogen w was supplied by either aDlIDonia through a nozzle, or nitrogen via a remote plasma. T The as-grown films were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, x x-ray pthotoelectron spectroscopy, Auger electron spectroscopy, x-ray diffraction, t transmission electron diffraction, optical transmission, and atomic force microscopy.roscopy.

Effects of simultaneous supplementation of laying hens with α-linolenic acid and eicosapentaenoic acid/docosahexaenoic acid resources on egg quality and n-3 fatty acid profile

  • Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of simultaneous supplementation of laying hens with alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) resources (flax, perilla, and Eucommia ulmoides [E. ulmoides] seeds) and eicosapentaenoic acid/docosahexaenoic acid (EPA/DHA) resources (Schizochytrium sp.) on egg quality and n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) profile. Methods: Dietary treatments were as follows: i) diet C (control diet); ii) diet F (diet C+10% flaxseeds); iii) diet P, (diet C+10% perilla seeds); iv) diet E (diet C+10% E. ulmoides seeds); v) diet A (diet C+1.5% microalage); vi) diet AF (diet C+10% flaxseeds+1.5% microalage); vii) diet AP (diet C+10% perilla seeds+1.5% microalgae); viii) diet AE (diet C+10% E. ulmoides seeds+ 1.5% microalage). Results: Egg weight, yolk weight and production ratio were not significantly affected by either algae or in combination with seeds (p>0.05). No significant difference was observed in ALA and DHA concentration in eggs between flaxseed, perila, and E. ulmodies seeds supplementation alone (p>0.05). N-3 PUFA in eggs was slightly improved by microalgae supplementation. The best supplementation, a combination of microalgae and perilla seeds, elevated (p<0.05) ALA from 19.7 to 202.5 mg/egg and EPA+DHA from 27.5 to 159.7 mg/egg. Highest n-3 PUFA enrichment (379.6 mg/yolk) was observed with supplementation of a combination of perilla seed and microalgae (362.2 mg/yolk), followed by a combination of flaxseed and microalgae (348.4 mg/yolk). The ALA, EPA, and DHA content obtained with a combination of microalgae and seeds surpassed the total sum of that obtained with microalgae or ALA-seeds alone. Conclusion: It is feasible to enrich eggs with n-3 PUFAs by perilla or E. ulmodies seeds instead of flaxseeds. Simultaneous supplementation of microalgae and seeds helped improve the transfer from EPA and docosapentaenoic acid into DHA.

외래식물 분포 및 관리방안 (A Study on Management and Present-Condition of Invasive Alien Species)

  • 본 연구는 강원도 생태계 교란식물 관리 제거사업 추진 현황을 종합적으로 평가하여, 교란식물의 효율적인 관리방안을 모색하는 것이다. 또한 근본적인 해결방안을 도출하여 예산투입의 효율성 제고, 생태계 기능 향상, 일자리 창출 및 소득화와 연계하여 지역경제 활성화 등을 제안하고자 한다. 생태계 교란식물 분포지역은 하천변이 39.6%로 가장 많았으며, 도로변 23.3%, 도로변-하천변 12.4%, 경작지 주변 및 제방 4.6% 등의 순으로 나타났다. 생태계 교란식물 관리방안으로는 i) 생태계 교란식물 모니터링 및 관리체계 구축, ii) 도민, 민간단체, 군(軍)부대 참여 활성화, iii) 대체식물 식재, iv) 생태계 교란식물 활용 산업 육성 등을 제안하였다. 본 연구 결과를 기초로 향후 추진되어야할 정책으로 i) 생태계 교란식물 관련 법률 제도 개선, ii) 생태계 교란식물 관리 협력체계 구축, iii) 민간 전문가 양성교육 사업 추진, iv) 생태계 교란식물 제거사업 방식의 병행 추진, v) 시 군별 대체식물 식재 모델 개발, vi) 생태계 교란식물을 활용한 산업 육성, vii) 재원확보 및 효율화를 위한 한강 수계관리기금 활용 등을 제안하였다.

Application of peak based-Bayesian statistical method for isotope identification and categorization of depleted, natural and low enriched uranium measured by LaBr3:Ce scintillation detector

  • Todays, medium energy resolution detectors are preferably used in radioisotope identification devices(RID) in nuclear and radioactive material categorization. However, there is still a need to develop or enhance « automated identifiers » for the useful RID algorithms. To decide whether any material is SNM or NORM, a key parameter is the better energy resolution of the detector. Although masking, shielding and gain shift/stabilization and other affecting parameters on site are also important for successful operations, the suitability of the RID algorithm is also a critical point to enhance the identification reliability while extracting the features from the spectral analysis. In this study, a RID algorithm based on Bayesian statistical method has been modified for medium energy resolution detectors and applied to the uranium gamma-ray spectra taken by a LaBr3:Ce detector. The present Bayesian RID algorithm covers up to 2000 keV energy range. It uses the peak centroids, the peak areas from the measured gamma-ray spectra. The extraction features are derived from the peak-based Bayesian classifiers to estimate a posterior probability for each isotope in the ANSI library. The program operations were tested under a MATLAB platform. The present peak based Bayesian RID algorithm was validated by using single isotopes(241Am, 57Co, 137Cs, 54Mn, 60Co), and then applied to five standard nuclear materials(0.32-4.51% at.235U), as well as natural U- and Th-ores. The ID performance of the RID algorithm was quantified in terms of F-score for each isotope. The posterior probability is calculated to be 54.5-74.4% for 238U and 4.7-10.5% for 235U in EC-NRM171 uranium materials. For the case of the more complex gamma-ray spectra from CRMs, the total scoring (ST) method was preferred for its ID performance evaluation. It was shown that the present peak based Bayesian RID algorithm can be applied to identify 235U and 238U isotopes in LEU or natural U-Th samples if a medium energy resolution detector is was in the measurements.

폐색전증의 진단에 있어 혈청 D-dimer 측정의 진단적 가치 (Plasma D-dimer Determination in the Diagnosis of Pulmonary Embolism)

  • 연구배경: 폐색전증의 진단에 있어 확전법인 폐동맥 조영술은 관혈적이고 임상에서의 제약이 있으며, 폐환기-관류주사는 비고확률 소견인 경우 진단적 민감도 및 특이도가 낮은 문제가 있다. 혈장 D-dimer는 섬유소분 해산물로 임상적으로 폐색전증이 의심되는 환자에서 증가되는 것이 알려져 있어 혈장 D-dimer의 측정이 폐색전증에 있어 어떤 진단적 가치가 있는지 알아보고자 하였다. 방법: 전향적 임상연구로 정상대조군 21예와 폐색전증 환자군 9예에서 latex agglutination법에 의해 혈장 D-dimer를 측정하고 폐동맥조영술 결과와 비교하였다. 결과: 1) 대조군 및 폐색전증군의 혈장 D-dimer치; 대조군의 혈장 D-dimer치는 21예중 0.5 mg/L 미만 11예, 0.5 mg/L 보다 높은 경우 10예 였고, 폐색전증군 9예중 0.5 mg/L 미만 1예, 0.5 mg/L 보다 8예로 혈장 D-dimer치가 0.5 mg/L 이상으로 증가된 양성율은 폐색전증군에서 대조군에 비해 유의하게 많았다(p=0.049). 2) 혈장 D-dimer치의 진단적 효용; 혈장 D-dimer치 0.5 mg/L를 cut-off으로 했을 때 폐색전증 진단의 민감도 88.9%(8/9), 특이도 52.4%(11/21), 양성예측치 44.4%(8/18) 및 음성 예측치 91.7%(11/12)였다. 결론: 폐색전증의 진단에 있어 D-dimer의 측정치가 cut-off(0.5 mg/L)치 이내인 경우 폐색전증의 존재 가능성은 매우 적을 것으로 사료되었다.

미세전산화 단층 촬영을 이용한 글라스 아이오노머 수복의 인접면 재광화 효과에 대한 연구 (REMINERALIZATION EFFECTS OF GLASS IONOMER RESTORATIONS ON ADJACENT INTERPOXIMAL-A MICROTOMOGRAPHIC STUDY)

  • 이 연구의 목적은 Compomer, high filled Glass Ionomer Cement, Resin Modified Glass Ionomer Cement, 그리고 불소를 방출하지 않는 복합 레진(대조군)의 인접면 초기 우식 병변에 있어서의 재광화 효과를 미세전산화 단층촬영 (SkyScan-1072, Skyscan b.v.b.a., Belgium)과 3차원 영상 분석기 ($Vworks^{TM}$, Cybermed, Korea)를 이 용하여 병소의 미세 밀도의 변화량을 측정, 비교하여 평가하는 것이다. 치아 시편과 glass ionomer cement 수복물로 치아의 인접면을 재현하여 인공타액에 담근 후 1개월 2개월 후에 미세전산화 단층 촬영을 시행한 후 3차원 영상 분석 프로그램을 사용하여 인공 우식부위의 미세 밀도를 측정하여 그 변화량을 분석하여 재광화 정도를 평가하였다. 사용된 재료는 1군은 Compomer인 F2000(3M ESPE, St. Paul, Minn., USA), 2군은 high filled GIC인 Fuji IX GP (GC Corp., Tokyo, Japan), 3군은 Resin Modified Glass Ionomer Cement인 Vitremer (3M ESPE, St. Paul, Minn., USA), 그리고 4군은 복합 레진인 Z250(3M ESPE, St. Paul, Minn., USA)이었다. 위의 과정을 거쳐 얻어진 자료를 토대로 분석한 결과 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. 1) 세 종류의 글라스 아이오노머 수복재는 첫째 달과 둘째 달에서 모두 복합 레진과 비교하여 밀도가 유의차 있게 증가하였다. 2) 1군, 2군, 3군 각각은 밀도의 증가가 서로에 대하여 통계적으로 유의차가 없었다. 3) 각 재료의 재광화 효과를 비교한 결과 모든 글라스 아이오노머 수복재는 첫째 달과 둘째 달 사이에 통계적인 유의 차를 보였으며 복합 레진은 유의차가 없었다.

교동도의 관속식물상 분포 및 보전방안 연구 (A Study on the Distribution and Conservation Plan of Vascular Flora in Gyodong Island)

  • 본 연구는 인천광역시 강화군의 북서쪽 DMZ 민북지역에 위치한 교동도의 일대의 관속식물상과 침입외래식물 등을 살펴보고 파악된 식물들의 체계적인 관리와 생물다양성 보전 대책 수립을 위한 기초자료로 활용하기 위하여 수행되었다. 조사는 2019년 4월부터 2021년 8월까지 총 13회에 걸쳐 조사되었다. 교동도의 관속식물상은 총 109과 378속 641종 15아종 49변종 8품종 713분류군이 확인되었다. 이는 우리나라 관속식물 총 4,641분류군의 약 15.36%로 나타났다. 교동도 일대에서 출현한 북방계식물은 한라사초와 시호 등 83분류군이 확인되었다. 한반도 특산식물은 서울족도리풀, 붉노랑상사화 등 16종이 관찰되었다. IUCN 지정 희귀식물은 총 20분류군이 관찰되었다. 위기종(EN)은 물여뀌, 솔불꽃 등 4분류군, 취약종(VU)은 시호, 버들금불초 등 7분류군, 약관심종(LC)은 모새달, 두루미천남성 등 6종이 출현하였다. 식물구계학적 특정식물은 총 99분류군으로 파악되었다. V등급은 솔붓꽃 1분류군, IV등급은 뚝사초 등 8분류군, III등급은 큰꿩의비름 등 20분류군이 확인되었다. II등급은 개속새 및 물수세미 등 20분류군이 관찰되었다. 조사지역에서 출현한 침입외래식물은 나래가막사리, 가는털비름 등 75분류군으로 확인되었다. 귀화율은 10.51%로 나타났으며, 도시화지수는 23.29%로 산출되었다. 본 연구 대상지인 교동도는 2014년 교동대교가 개통되고, 주산인 화개산은 현재 대규모 공사가 진행 중이다. 따라서 침입외래식물 등의 유입이 더욱 심각할 것으로 예상되기 때문에, 솔붓꽃 및 물여뀌 등 특기할만한 식물의 현지 내 보호 및 보전대책 수립이 조속히 마련되어야 한다고 판단된다.

Effects of Momordica charantia Saponins on In vitro Ruminal Fermentation and Microbial Population

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effects of Momordica charantia saponin (MCS) on ruminal fermentation of maize stover and abundance of selected microbial populations in vitro. Five levels of MCS supplements (0, 0.01, 0.06, 0.30, 0.60 mg/mL) were tested. The pH, $NH_3-N$, and volatile fatty acid were measured at 6, 24, 48 h of in vitro mixed incubation fluids, whilst the selected microbial populations were determined at 6 and 24 h. The high dose of MCS increased the initial fractional rate of degradation at t-value = 0 ($FRD_0$) and the fractional rate of gas production (k), but decreased the theoretical maximum of gas production ($V_F$) and the half-life ($t_{0.5}$) compared with the control. The $NH_3-N$ concentration reached the lowest concentration with 0.01 mg MCS/mL at 6 h. The MSC inclusion increased (p<0.001) the molar proportion of butyrate, isovalerate at 24 h and 48 h, and the molar proportion of acetate at 24 h, but then decreased (p<0.05) them at 48 h. The molar proportion of valerate was increased (p<0.05) at 24 h. The acetate to propionate ratio (A/P; linear, p<0.01) was increased at 24 h, but reached the least value at the level of 0.30 mg/mL MCS. The MCS inclusion decreased (p<0.05) the molar proportion of propionate at 24 h and then increased it at 48 h. The concentration of total volatile fatty acid was decreased (p<0.001) at 24 h, but reached the greatest concentration at the level of 0.01 mg/mL and the least concentration at the level of 0.60 mg/mL. The relative abundance of Ruminococcus albus was increased at 6 h and 24 h, and the relative abundance of Fibrobacter succinogenes was the lowest (p<0.05) at 0.60 mg/mL at 6 h and 24 h. The relative abundance of Butyrivibrio fibrisolvens and fungus reached the greatest value (p<0.05) at low doses of MCS inclusion and the least value (p<0.05) at 0.60 mg/mL at 24 h. The present results demonstrates that a high level of MCS quickly inhibits in vitro fermentation of maize stover, while MCS at low doses has the ability to modulate the ruminal fermentation pattern by regulating the number of functional rumen microbes including cellulolytic bacteria and fungi populations, and may have potential as a feed additive applied in the diets of ruminants.
