Purpose: This study was designed to investigate the level of recognition and utilization of Korean physical therapists for assistive technology. Methods: The subjects of this study were 218 physical therapists who worked in various institutions in Seoul, Kyonggi-do, and Choongchung area. A questionnaire was developed using a related article. Simple descriptive statistics were used for respondent characteristics, and for the level of recognition and utilization. Results: The physical therapists reported having a less-than-average level of recognition and utilization for assistive technology. They were cognizant that the use of assistive technology devices were used mainly for specific outcome such as mobility, seating and position, and ADL. Conclusion: Our findings indicate that physical therapists need more opportunities for training in assistive technology. For effective clinical applications of assistive technology, there should be continuous support, such as college education, continued education, and related seminars.

This study was carried out survey to compare using status of physical therapy for elderly persons between urban and rural area in Honam. There were 16 places consisting of general clinics, departments of family medicine, pain medicine, and orthopedics that run outpatient physical therapy. This study distributed 636 questionnaires in total and collected 400 responses. Regionally, 200 responses out of 311 questionnaires from Gwangju and 200 responses out of 325 questionnaires from Jeollanam-do and Jeollabuk-do were collected. Regionally speaking, Gwangju was 62% while Jeollanam-do and Jeollabuk-do regions were 88%, indicating patients in rural areas employed more public transportation, which was statistically significantly different. There was a difference between urban and rural areas with regard to questions regarding improvement with physical therapy. Factors related to the number of physical therapy visits per week that showed a significant difference between urban and rural areas found by the linear regression analysis result were working hours, whether the patient exercised or not, and pain stress. This result suggest that it is necessary to reduce working hours and pain stress experienced by rural elderlies as well as to encourage regular exercise via national polices.

Purpose: This study evaluated of quality of life (QOL) and physical therapy satisfaction (PTS) in caregivers of cerebral palsy children. Methods: Eighty six caregivers in Gwang-ju were examined. The caregivers' QOL was assessed through self-reports using the WHO Quality of Life-BREF (WHOQOL-BREF), and the data was analyzed separately for each of its 5 domains. Physical therapy satisfaction was assessed using a self-reported questionnaire and the data was analyzed separately for the 2 domains. The results were processed by the mean and standard deviation and then verified by ANOVA and a t-test to determine the significant differences in the QOL and PTS. The factors affecting the QOL were processed by logistic regression. Results: Life environment domain of the QOL across the caregivers factors showed a statistically significant difference in age at natal, monthly income and education. The birth order in the cerebral palsy child factor showed a significant difference in the general, physical and emotional domain of the QOL. The PTS showed a significant difference in the delivery of therapy domain and in the birth order and walking condition of the environment domain. Caregivers education was found to be associated independently with the life environment domain of QOL. Purpose: This study developed a Korean sentiment questionnaire by adapting an existing English survey using focus group interview (FGI)-based cognitive interview (CI) techniques to investigate the utilization of outcome measures (OMs) among Korean physical therapists. Methods: The existing OMs survey questionnaire was adapted by dividing eight physical therapists into two groups: mid-experienced (n=4) and high-experienced (n=4). Each group participated in a 120-minute FGI-based CI session. All interviews were recorded, and the researcher transcribed the data immediately after each interview. The data were then organized and categorized into themes using Excel 2021 and verified with the participants. Results: FGI-based CI sessions were conducted with Korean physical therapists to revise the English version of the questionnaire, tailoring it to the local context. Four main themes emerged from the interviews: inappropriate items or translations, questionnaire length and organization, questionnaire improvements, and additional items. The questionnaire was revised based on the feedback obtained during these interviews. Conclusion: The questionnaire was modified according to the themes derived from the interviews. The questionnaire was developed to represent the clinical environment of Korean physical therapy accurately by removing elements of the questionnaire unsuitable for the Korean sentiment and incorporating the perspectives of Korean physical therapists.
