  • In this paper, a smart bus system that automates public bus traffic payment by applying beacon and computer vision and provides bus route information, real-time location information, getting off alarm is proposed. By using the beacon to recognize busses near the stop and to board the bus to be boarded, this system automatically processes the payment when boarding by using the distance from the beacon and the information provided by the beacon and the face comparison. After the payment processing, the system provides the route information of the boarded bus and the real-time bus location information to the user, and when the user sets an alarm using these informations, the alarm is activated when the bus leaves the bus stop.

  • 360VR content requires short latency, such as immediate response to viewers' viewport changes and high quality video delivery. It is necessary to consider efficient transmission that guarantees the QoE(Quality of Experience) of the 360VR contents with limited bandwidth. Several research has been introduced to reduce overall bandwidth consumption by predicting a user's viewport and allocating different bit rates to the area corresponding to the viewport. In this paper, we propose novel viewport prediction scheme that uses sound source location information of 360VR contents as auditory recognition information along with visual recognition information. Also, we propose efficient transmission algorithm by allocating a bit rate properly based on improved viewport prediction. The proposed scheme improves the accuracy of the viewport prediction and provides high quality videos to tiles corresponding to the user's viewpoint within the limited bandwidth.

  • In this paper we develop a novel human action recognition system based on communication between an ear-mounted Bluetooth camera and an action recognition server to aid scene recognition for the blind. First, if the blind capture an image of a specific location using the ear-mounted camera, the captured image is transmitted to the recognition server using a smartphone that is synchronized with the camera. The recognition server sequentially performs human detection, object detection and action recognition by analyzing human poses. The recognized action information is retransmitted to the smartphone and the user can hear the action information through the text-to-speech (TTS). Experimental results using the proposed system showed a 60.7% action recognition performance on the test data captured in indoor and outdoor environments.

  • Among the augmented reality services, the most frequently used services are marker based augmented reality services. However, there is a problem that the augmented reality service can not be provided in an environment in which the marker image can not be recognized. In this paper, we propose a method to provide more stable service by estimating the user's posture even if the marker image can not be correctly recognized due to occlusion, obstacle or marker damage in the marker based augmented reality. In the proposed method, when a failure occurs in the provision of a marker based augmented reality, the attitude of the user is estimated using the 3-dimensional coordinates measured through communication between the three beacons and the user, and it allows the user to receive the augmented reality service continuously. We describe the scenario of augmented reality technique using proposed marker recognition and beacon communication, and present the results of experiments based on the degree of occlusion and damage.

  • The ubiquitous smart home is the home of the future that takes advantage of context information from the human and the home environment and provides an automatic home service for the human. Human location and motion are the most important contexts in the ubiquitous smart home. We present a real-time human tracker that predicts human location and motion for the ubiquitous smart home. We used four network cameras for real-time human tracking. This paper explains the real-time human tracker's architecture, and presents an algorithm with the details of two functions (prediction of human location and motion) in the real-time human tracker. The human location uses three kinds of background images (IMAGE1: empty room image, IMAGE2: image with furniture and home appliances in the home, IMAGE3: image with IMAGE2 and the human). The real-time human tracker decides whether the human is included with which furniture (or home appliance) through an analysis of three images, and predicts human motion using a support vector machine. A performance experiment of the human's location, which uses three images, took an average of 0.037 seconds. The SVM's feature of human's motion recognition is decided from pixel number by array line of the moving object. We evaluated each motion 1000 times. The average accuracy of all the motions was found to be 86.5%.

  • Traditional explicit authentication, which requires awareness of the user's authentication process, is a burden on the user, which is one of main reasons why users tend not to employ authentication. In this paper, we try to reduce such cost by employing implicit authentication methods, such as biometrics and location based authentication methods. We define the 4-level security assurance model, where each level is mapped to an explicit authentication method. We implement our model as an Android application, where the implicit authentication methods are touch-stroke dynamics-based, face recognition based, and the location based authentication. From user experiment, we could show that the authentication cost is reduced by 14.9% compared to password authentication-only case and by 21.7% compared to the case where 6-digit PIN authentication is solely used.

  • To achieve autonomous mobile robot navigation, accurate localization technique is the fundamental issue that should be addressed. In augmented reality, the position of a user is required for location-based services. This paper presents indoor localization using infrared reflective artificial landmarks. In order to minimize the disturbance to the user and to provide the ease of installation, the passive landmarks are used. The landmarks are made of coated film which reflects the infrared light efficiently. Infrared light is not visible, but the camera can capture the reflected infrared light. Once the artificial landmark is identified, the camera's relative position/orientation is estimated with respect to the landmark. In order to reduce the number of the required artificial landmarks for a given environment, the pan/tilt mechanism is developed together with the distortion correction algorithm.

  • This paper aims to improve the quality of cultural experience by providing a three - dimensional guide service that enables users to experience themselves without additional guides and cultural commentators using the latest mobile IT technology to enhance understanding of cultural heritage. In this paper, we propose a method of constructing cultural contents based on location information such as user / cultural heritage using markerless tracking based augmented reality and GPS. We use marker detection technology and markerless tracking technology to recognize smart augmented reality object accurately and accurate recognition according to the state of cultural heritage, and also use Android's Google map to locate the user. The purpose of this paper is to produce content for introducing cultural heritage using GPS and augmented reality based on Android. It can be used in combination with various objects beyond the limitation of existing augmented reality contents.
