Improvement of the Cognitive Perceptual Assessment for Driving (CPAD) based on Usability Test

  • Objective: The aim of this study was to perform a usability test for CPAD (Cognitive Perceptual Assessment for Driving) and improve it based on the test results. Background: The cognitive perceptual assessment for driving is a computer-based assessment tool to assess the driving capacity of people with brain-damages. It may be a good tool for evaluating the brain-damaged drivers' safe driving capabilities and screening cognitive and perceptual deficits related to driving. We performed a usability test to improve the CPAD based on the result. Method: Both the software consisting of 8 sub-tests (depth perception, sustained attention, divided attention, stroop test, field dependency, digit span, trail making A, trail making B) and the hardware including the input and output devices ( joystick, mouse, keyboard, touch screen) were evaluated through user interviews. Also we identified the problems and issues in using them by observing the participants performing the CPAD tasks. Results: Based on the results, the task instructions were visually and auditorily improved and more practice examples were added to help the users understand the instructions better and increase the input accuracy, a response time window was added and the joystick and touch screen were simplified, which made it easier for the user to perform the CAPD tasks. Conclusion: User discomforts were minimized by improving the task environment, unless it had affected the evaluation criteria. Application: We plan to distribute the improved version of the CPAD to the regional rehabilitation hospitals, and the driving support centers for people with disabilities throughout the country, so it could be used as an evaluation tool for disabled drivers' cognitive and perceptual functions.

Validation Study of Clinical Utility and Usability on Korean Version of the Life-Space Assessment to Assess Community Mobility (지역사회 이동성을 측정하는 한국어판 생활공간 평가(Korean Version of the Life-Space Assessment; K-LSA)의 임상적 유용성 및 사용성 검증 연구)

  • Objective : The purpose of study is to validate the clinical utility and usability of the Korean version of the Life Space Assessment(K-LSA) which is an assessment tool of community mobility of older adults. Methods : Surveys on the clinical utility and usability of the K-LSA are carried out with a total of aoaa60 occupational and physical therapists. The surveys included the multiple choice questions on the clinical utility and open questions on the usability. Responses to multiple questions are post processed by frequency analysis and technical statistics, and responses to the open questions are categorized by common factors in each questions. Results : Average value of clinical utility ranges from 3.6 to 4.0 with positive responses of 'fair (3 point)', 'agree (4 point)' and 'strongly agree (5 point)' being 95~100%. Average value for clinical usability ranges from 3.6 to 4 with positive answers of 'fair (3 point)', 'easy (4 point)' and 'very easy (5 point)' being 88.3~100%. Additionally out of open-type questions of clinical usability, it was pointed out that the concept of 'neighborhood' for the life space level 3 and 4 is unclear. Conclusion : The current study and research outcomes showed that the K-LSA is a validated tool in Korean health care system for the clinical utility and usability in measuring community mobility, and that it is straightforward in practical use. It will help clinicians and therapists promote the social participation of older adults, and set an intervention goal for enhancing community mobility. It will further help clinicians and researchers in education and research for medical intervention and goal-setting.

The Development of Usability Assessment Tool for Customized Clothing Web Site Using Nitting Machine (니팅머신을 이용한 커스터마이징 니트 제작 웹사이트 사용성 평가도구 개발)

  • Recently, consumers have changed their role to consumers and producers who make what they want. The way clothes are produced is also needed to change according to modern consumption methods. Knitting Machine was one of them, and although it was a mass-produced device, it developed a device that could make clothes anywhere on a small production craze. Knit-making requires more consideration than other clothing designs, which requires consideration of users' web usability. Therefore, this study proposes an assessment tool that can evaluate web usability of clothing-making sites using knitting machines. To this end, the examples of the Knitting Machine program and custom product production websites and the each UI were investigated and analyzed. Based on these prior surveys, the draft evaluation items were drawn, and three Delphi surveys were conducted on the basis of the draft to produce assessment tools after classifying, modifying and deleting items. Through this study, we look forward to improving the usability of the customized product-making website of Knitting Machine in the future and popularizing the Knitting Machine.

  • This paper is designed to propose the contents necessary for updating and developing future mobile RPG game developers through a usability evaluation of Users using In-App Payment Services at Lineage M. This paper conducted a usability assessment for quantitative assessment of users who use in-app payment services for mobile game 'Lineage M'. The tool for usability assessment was surveyed in a questionnaire designed based on 'The User Experience Honeycomb' defined by Peter Morville. These statistical results were then divided into lateral analyses. Through this, it is expected that game developers and planners will be able to find data to help develop new mobile RPG games.

  • In this study, algorithms for analyzing the torsion of buildings under earthquake excitation are developed. The algorithm and formulations to account for the torsional angle are verified by analyzing the seismic acceleration time history data. The method was applied to the reference buildings to examine their operation and usability. The reference application demonstrated that the noise-canceling scheme successfully overcame various obstacles in the field measurements. The developed method is expected to be used as a tool to support a loss assessment system for determining the direction and priority of disaster response in the event of an earthquake.

  • Land suitability assessment is the procedure that assesses development, agriculture or conservation suitability of land according to such criteria as soil, location and usability. But there are many problems to execute land assessment by law. Problems include inadequate basic data, lack of linkage with the spatial planning system, and inefficiency in operation. The purpose of this study is to improve methods of land suitability assessment as a sustainable land use management tool using case study. In this study, land suitability assessment will be executed through GIS. On the basis of the results of this case study, practical and institutional problems are described, and technical solutions are suggested.

  • Land assessement is a procedure that assesses developmental, agricultural or heritage suitability of land parcel according to such criteria as soil, location and usability. There are much problems to execute land assessment by law. Problems include inadequate basic data, lack of linkage with the spatial planning system, and inefficiency in operation. The purpose of this study is to investigate methods of developing land assessment as a sustainable land use management tool in a Korean context, using case study. In the case study, land assessment will be executed through GIS- based assessment method. On the basis of the results of this case study, practical and institutional problems are described, and technical and institutional solutions are suggested.

Developing of a Criterion for Selecting and Producing of Performance (과학 수행 평가 문항의 선정 및 제작을 위한 평가 준거의 개발)

  • We have developed of a criterion that would help to select and develop performance assessments in science education. There are six categories of a criterion: Fidelity, satisfaction, content validity, fairness & suitability, reliability & objectivity, and usability. There are the total of 25 sub-categories under the six categories. Five science educators evaluated the validity of the criterion. For reliability of the criterion, Kendall's tau-b was used. Eight science educators and elementary teachers evaluated three performance assessment tasks for the correspondence of the criterion. This study also discuss the implications of this criterion as well.

A Comparative Study by Age in Evaluating Web-based 3D Model House

  • This study aims to explore age-related differences with the assessment tools in the web-based 3D virtual model house and to propose the 3D model house criteria which everyone can use easily. The participants came from three age groups, ranging from their 20s to their over 40. Presence, Usability and Space perception and cognition in the experiment for navigating and evaluating the web-based 3D model house were measured and compared through one-way ANOVA and two-way ANOVA. The results and conclusions are as follows. (1) The younger the participants were, the more positive they evaluated the experiment on Presence. However, 20s needed higher presence than other two groups. (2) 30s and over 40 groups evaluated that the 3D virtual model house was more efficient than an actual model house on Usability. When the participants were younger, the values of 'expressivity' factor were higher. (3) The younger the participants were, the more positive they perceived the virtual environment (VE) on Space perception and cognition scale. There were no significant differences in the selection of dwelling size and the floor plan type. There were no significant differences of interaction effects between age and online gaming experience on Presence and Usability. The results of the current study demonstrate that there are differences among age groups and older groups have difficulty navigating and assessing in a VE. Although older groups take longer to adapt in the VE, they regard the 3D model house as an effective tool for purchase of house.

Validation of the Korean Version of the General Practitioner Assessment of Cognition (한국형 주 보호자용 노인우울 간이척도(KGDSI-15)의 신뢰도와 타당도 분석)

  • Purpose: The study examined the psychometric properties of the Korean Geriatric Depression Scale Informant-15 (KGDSI-15), an instrument measuring geriatric depression through their primary caregivers. Methods: The participants were 370 Korean older adults $\geqq$65-years-of-age registered in a visiting health center in S city. The Korean version of Geriatric Depression Scale-Short Form (GDSSF-K) was used for comparison. Internal consistency measured tool reliability and Pearson correlation coefficient measured validity. One-way ANOVA was used to determine the clinical usability of the instrument: depression levels were classified as normal, mild depression, and severe using GDSSF-K, and the depression scores of these three groups were comparatively measured by KGDSI-15. Results: The Cronbach's alpha coefficient was .831. The correlation coefficient with GDSSF-K was r=.616 (p<.001). KGDSI-15 results showed the depression level of older adults with severe depression was highest followed by those with mild depression and normal. The group differences were also statistically significant, which indicated the clinical usability of the instrument. Conclusion: KGDSI-15 is suggested to be reliable and valid to measure the geriatric depression through the primary caregivers of older adult.
