  • Rail transport has grown over the Past decades, and rail networks have highly concentrated in urban area, and it is possible for rail passengers to choose a route anions a number of alternative routes. Analysis of factors influencing the choice of route, are required to estimate the rail travel demand of each route. In this paper, we describes route choice model for the transit assignment and characteristics of the route choice(i.e., by relative travel time and fares), and attempts to estimate travel demand of new rail transit based on the slated preference(SP) survey data of Nanko Porttown, which is located in Osaka, Japan.

  • A railway vehicle should be satisfied with the safety criteria and ride comfort of passengers. A bogie of railway vehicle Is composed of many suspension components, such as springs, dampers and etc.. that have an influence on the dynamic behavior of the train wish the wheel/rail profiles and track geometries. Therefore, it Is necessary for engineers to check the Interference between vehicle limit and construction limit with considering the vehicle's behavior, because when the vehicle is running on curved track, it should be have enough clearance from infrastructure for safely, spacially In a subway system. This paper explains the effective method of analysis for vehicle limit considering the vehicle dynamic behavior and reviews the problem of vehicle limit for the Korean Standard Urban Train. The results show that the vehicle limit is over the construction limit when the Korean Standard Urban Train runs on the curved track with 180 m radius of curve.

  • Small Rapid Transit System(SRTS) will be defined fully automated urban transit system providing a rapid and personalized door to door transport service. Conventional forms of public transit require passengers to collect in groups until a large vehicle is scheduled to travel on predetermined routes. In contrast, SRTS offers personal transport with no waiting, and takes passengers non-stop to their chosen destination. This is a transport system which is as convenient as, or in congested environments more convenient than, the car, but with minimal environmental impact. Accordingly the foundation study of choice system size for development of SRTS

  • When the electric motor car was first introduced, an engineer, responsible for the work related to operation and a conductor for the announcement and management of entrances and the other services like as monitoring the passengers in the platforms used to take together the train for passengers' safe. As new technologies developed and the urban transit system had the automatic driving facilities, automatic door switch and broadcasting systems, to solve the financial problems, most subway systems introduced the one-man operation system. To curtail the operating expense through automatic control and operation for the economical efficiency, the crewless driving system was introduced abroad around 1970 on the light weight train and Japan started the crewless driving system in 2005, Germany started it in June 2008. We examine system requirements of the system and methods to construct safe systems that would be introduced, suitable for one-man operation system or crewless driving system through the surveys and analysis of driving state and the systems.

  • In our study, we present a new LOGIT-based traffic assignment model applicable to intercity railway network. Most traffic assignment models have been developed for public transit assignment in urban area, so that they are known to produce unrealistic results in intercity railway demand analysis. Especially, since the introduction of KTX, more passengers are using a route including KTX service and the schedule becomes more compatible with transfer. Our study presents a new LOGIT-based traffic assignment model considering passenger transfer. To do so, we suggest a new route search algorithm to find K paths with non increasing order in the utility value.

  • Since PSDs(Platform Screen Doors) are set up at many subway stations, their design related to safety has become gradually important. In particular, the interference check with a running railway vehicle is the most important of performance indices because the collision between PSDs and vehicles can be dangerous for passengers in the car and on platforms. When the train comes into a station with a curvature, the passenger car has a large translational and rotational motion and the displacement is enough for coming in contact with PSD. The performance is affected by many design parameters such as rail design parameters and vehicle velocity. This study proposes dynamic analysis models for railway vehicles and rails. Some parameters were also considered in the models to determine their influence on the performance.

  • Urban railway carries large numbers of passengers during the rush hour. According to the announcement of Ministry of Land Transport and Maritime Affairs(MLTM), 221% of the congestion rate is reported in the SeoulMetro No.2 outer circle line from sadang to bangbea between eight and nine o'clock in the morning. This study analyzes the cause of the client's dissatisfaction about SeoulMetro such as the train delay, and decides the preference rank of the alternatives for congestion alleviation and enhancement of the transport capacity using Analytic Hierarchy Process(AHP).

  • Accurate analysis of the causes of metro rail traffic congestion provides a means of addressing issues arising from metro rail traffic congestion in metropolitan areas. Currently, congestion analysis based on counting, weight detection, CCTVs, and mobile Wi-Fi is limited by poor accuracies or because studies have been restricted to single routes and trains. In this study, a train congestion analysis model was used that includes the transfer and multi-path behavior of metro passengers and train operation plans for metropolitan urban railroads. Analysis accuracy was improved by considering traffic patterns in which passengers must wait for next trains due to overcrowding. The model updates train crowding levels every 10 minutes, provides information to potential passengers, and thus, is expected to increase the social benefits provided by the Seoul metropolitan subway

  • The Area of a domestic railway station is designed based on the 4-step traffic demand forecasting model with the average daily passenger count as one of its parameter. However, nowadays, due to increasing rate of railway station's function, the non-passengers are increasing. In order to consider those non-passengers who aren't using trains, assumed volume are added to the average daily passenger count of station to estimate the area, but the criteria being applied has no concrete basis. Therefore, this study aimed to recalculate the increasing non-passenger rate based on actual survey data of station users in any type of railway station to obtain the optimum area. Subsequently, the the design area was performed through pedestrian simulation. According to the result of the simulation, it was found that the total space of the exciting railway stations can be reduced up to 45% and will still satisfy the level of service(LOS) requirement.

  • Maglev vehicle has two parts a vehicle body and a series of bogies. The vehicle body is connected through a pneumatic suspension on the bogie frame operating loads, vehicle weight and passengers, repeatedly during the service life. The bogie frame plays an important role in sustaining the weight of the vehicle body and controlling the magnets in the correct alignment to meet requirements of stable running on railway. It is also subjected to the levitation and guidance force and propulsion force generated by electromagnets and linear induction motor (LIM) respectively. To guarantee a vehicle system, it is necessary to identify a load test method with proper loads that the vehicle is expected to experience while in service. In this paper, a test method was proposed to verify the structural safety of vehicle body and bogie frame that are applied to an EMS(electromagnetic suspension)-type urban Maglev vehicle considering in case of not only running on the ground but also levitated running.
