Impacts of Urban Land Cover Change on Land Surface Temperature Distribution in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

  • Urban expansion, particularly converting sub-urban areas to residential and commercial land use in metropolitan areas, has been considered as a significant signal of regional economic development. However, this results in urban climate change. One of the key impacts of rapid urbanization on the environment is the effect of UHI (Urban Heat Island). Understanding the effects of urban land cover change on UHI is crucial for improving the ecology and sustainability of cities. This research reports an application of remote sensing data, GIS (Geographic Information Systems) for assessing effects of urban land cover change on the LST (Land Surface Temperature) and heat budget components in Ho Chi Minh City, where is one of the fastest urbanizing region of Vietnam. The change of urban land cover component and LST in the city was derived by using multi-temporal Landsat data for the period of 1998 - 2020. The analysis showed that, from 1998 to 2020 the city had been drastically urbanized into multiple directions, with the urban areas increasing from approximately 125.281 km2 in 1998 to 162.6 km2 in 2007, and 267.2 km2 in 2020, respectively. The results of retrieved LST revealed the radiant temperature for 1998 ranging from 20.2℃ to 31.2℃, while that for 2020 remarkably higher ranging from 22.1℃ to 42.3℃. The results also revealed that given the same percentage of urban land cover components, vegetation area is more effective to reduce the value of LST, meanwhile the impervious surface is the most effective factor to increase the value of the LST.

도시지역 침수예측을 위한 유역특성과 한계강우량에 대한 상관분석 (Correlation Analysis of Basin Characteristics and Limit Rainfall for Inundation Forecasting in Urban Area)

  • Flooding in urban areas is caused by heavy rains for a short period of time and drains within 1 to 2 hours. It is also characterized by a small flooding area. In addition, flooding is often caused by various and complex causes such as land use, basin slope, pipe, street inlet, drainage pumping station, making it difficult to predict flooding. Therefore, this study analyzes the effect of each basin characteristic on the occurrence of flooding in urban areas by correlating various basin characteristics, whether or not flooding occurred, and rainfall(Limit Rainfall), and intends to use the data for urban flood prediction. As a result of analyzing the relationship between the imperviousness and the urban slope, pipe, threshold rainfall and limit rainfall, the pipe showed a correlation coefficient of 0.32, and the remaining factors showed low correlation. However, the multiple correlation analysis showed the correlation coefficient about 0.81 - 0.96 depending on the combination, indicating that the correlation was relatively high. In the future, I will further analyze various urban characteristics data, such as area by land use, average watershed elevation, river and coastal proximity, and further analyze the relationship between flooding occurrence and urban characteristics. The relationship between the urban characteristics, the occurrence of flooding and the limiting rainfall amount suggested in this study is expected to be used as basic data for the study to predict urban flooding in the future.

  • In the process of urban development, the increase in the number and the complexity of urban facilities gives rise to a variety of problems, such as increase in construction and maintenance cost. In particular, taking into account the fact that an emergency situation in an urban facility can cause substantial loss of property as well as casualties, it becomes important to intelligently perceive states of facilities and properly execute countermeasures through real-time monitoring. In recent years, practitioners and researchers have made efforts to improve current passive and manpower-dependent facility management systems to be more active and intelligent, by applying diverse ubiquitous computing technologies for the u-City project. In this study, after discussing major drawbacks of the conventional facilities management, the concept and the model of a sensor-based integrated intelligent management system for urban facilities are proposed. The proposed model, by analyzing and processing real-time sensor data from urban facilities, not only supports the management of individual facilities, but also enables the detection of complex facility-related events and the process of their countermeasures. This active and intelligent management of urban facilities is expected to overcome the limitation of the conventional facilities management, and provide more suitable facility management services for the u-City development.

도시기후지도의 작성 -상계 4동을 중심으로- (Urban Climate Mapping - The Case of Sanggye 4-Dong -)

  • The objective of this study is to improve the quality of the atmospheric environment by incorporating the factors of meteorology and urban climate into the field of urban and environmental planning. To this end, we have conducted a study on CLIMATOP and the mapping of urban climate, which are basic data used to analyze changes in climatic factors and the stagnation and accumulation of air pollutants. In particular, we focused on understanding the formation and movement of cold fresh air and its influx into urban areas by measuring and analyzing climatic factors. As a study result, classification criteria far CLIMATOP and a urban climatic map were made. In addition, we analyzed a digital elevation model, climatic data, and isothermal curves. As a result, we identified the corridor through which cold fresh air moves. We also observed that the temperature of the fluxed cold fresh air increased as land use changed. When the results of this study are applied to urban re-development and re-building projects, which require preliminary environmental assessment and environmental impact assessment, the practice proposed by this study is expected to contribute to the natural purification of air pollution activating the movement of cold fresh air and its influx into urban areas.

고해상도 수치예보모델을 위한 수도권지역의 상세한 도시특성정보 구축 및 사례 분석 (Construction and Case Analysis of Detailed Urban Characteristic Information on Seoul Metropolitan Area for High-Resolution Numerical Weather Prediction Model)

  • In this study, the high-resolution numerical simulations considering detailed anthropogenic heat, albedo, emission and roughness length are analyzed by using single layer Urban Canopy Model (UCM) in Weather Research Forecast (WRF). For this, improved urban parameter data for Seoul Metropolitan Area (SMA) was collected from global data. And then the parameters were applied to WRF-UCM model after it was processed into 2-dimensional topographical data. The 6 experiments were simulated by using the model with each parameter and verified against observation from Automated Weather Station (AWS) and flux tower for the temperature and sensible heat flux. The data for sensible heat flux of flux towers on Jungnang and Bucheon, the temperature of AWS on Jungnang, Gangnam, Bucheon and Neonggok were used as verification data. In the case of summer, the improvement of simulation by using detailed anthropogenic heat was higher than the other experiments in sensible flux simulation. The results of winter case show improved in all simulations using each advanced parameters in temperature and sensible heat flux simulation. Improvement of urban parameters in this study are possible to reflect the heat characteristics of urban area. Especially, detailed application of anthropogenic heat contributed to the enhancement of predicted value for sensible heat flux and temperature.

  • 도시화는 전 세계적인 현상이며 우리나라 역시 급속한 도시화를 경험하고 있다. 도시와 관련된 공간의사결정과정에서 미래의 도시형태를 객관적인 모델에 의해 예측하는 것은 토지의 효율적인 이용을 추구한다는 점에서 대단히 의미있는 일일 것이다. 본 연구에서는 도시인구와 도시면적사이의 생장생장이론에 기초하여 도시성장모델을 개발하였다. 모델의 입력데이터는 수치지도를 비롯한 공간데이터를 처리하여 생성하였으며, 래스터 GIS분석기법을 이용하여 정확도를 평가하였다. 본 연구의 결과물인 도시성장예측데이터는 물리적인 측면만을 이용해 제작되었으므로 사회ㆍ경제ㆍ정치적인 면까지를 고려하여 결정될 미래의 공간의사결정과정에서 기초데이터로 사용될 수 있을 것이다.

  • Seoul has experienced a rapid urban expansion over the past three decades. This paper reports an investigation into the application of Landsat imagery for detecting urban growth and assessing its impact on surface temperature in the region. Land cover/use change detection w3s carried out by using Landsat data. The results revealed a notable urban growth in the study area. This urban expansion had raised surface radiant temperature in the urbanized area. The method using remote sensing data based on GIS was found to be effective in monitoring and analysing urban growth and in evaluating urbanization impact on surface temperature.

미집행 도시계획시설의 효율적 관리를 위한 DB구축 방안에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Establishment of Database for the Efficient Management of Unexecuted Urban Planning Facilities)

  • 본 연구는 미집행 도시계획시설의 체계적이고 효율적인 관리를 위한 방안을 마련하기 위하여 지리정보시스템(GIS)을 이용한 미집행 도시계획시설의 분류를 위한 분석을 수행하고, 분류된 미집행 도시계획시설의 공간정보를 데이터베이스화하여 지속적인 관리와 운영을 위한 국토정보를 구축하는 방안을 모색하는데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 밀양시를 대상으로 도시관리계획 현황, 한국토지정보시스템(KLIS)의 주제도와 지적도, 위성사진 등의 자료를 수집하고, 주제도의 도시계획시설 레이어와 위성사진, 지적도의 연속지적 레이어와 분류·가공된 소유자 속성정보를 결합하여 도시계획 시설의 집행 및 미집행에 대한 정성적인 분석을 수행하였다. 분석 결과 미집행된 시설은 위성사진상 현황도로 또는 조성된 시설이 없고, 사유지가 대부분으로서 미집행 시설로 도출하였다. 또한, 현황도로가 개설되어 있으나, 사유지가 일부 포함된 시설은 일반공중의 교통에 공용함으로써 지자체가 사실상 지배주체로서 인정되어 집행된 시설로 도출하였다. 도출된 미집행 도시계획시설은 도형데이터의 레이어로 구분하고, 미집행 관련 속성데이터를 구성함으로써 미집행 현황과 통계적 내용을 신속하고 정확하게 파악 가능하였다. 본 연구에서는 미집행 도시계획시설의 과학적이고 합리적인 분석과 신뢰성 있는 공간정보 구축을 위해 GIS 기법을 도입한 분석 방안을 제시하였고, 기운영중인 시스템과의 연계 및 정보의 이용을 위한 데이터베이스 구축 방안을 제안하고자 하였다.

  • 본 연구는 도시 및 지역연구를 위한 인공위성(특히, LANDSAT) Data의 분석방법과 그 활용방안에 관한 연구이다. LANDSAT MSS Data와 화상처리장치를 사용하여 서울, 대전, 그리고 인천지역의 분류항목별 토지피복도와 경년변화를 추출하였다. 연구결과 도시 및 지역연구시에 인공위성 Data를 이용하면 충분히 유효한 결과를 얻을 수 있음을 알았다.
