The purpose of this study was to investigate recognition and buying practices of street-vended foods among college students in Chungbuk Area. A general dietary practices including snacks, related factors of buying street-vended foods were analyzed. The results showed that many students had irregular dietary habit, especially more than eighty percent of them skipped breakfast. More than sixty percent of students had frequent snacks. It was investigated that college students ate street-vended foods two or three times per week. The order of frequent choice of street-vended foods was rice cake with pasted red pepper(51.9%), sweet and sour pork(19.7%), sundae(5.7%). In microbiological examination, MPN of Coliform and CFU of standard plate count was over a standard value respectively, and acid value of frying oil revealed over value for maximum limitation point. Therefore, food and equipment in street-vended food store was evaluated as poor sanitation status. Most of college students have opinion that street-vended food store must be kept the line. In conclusion, nutrition education for college students should be required to protect them from unsafe street-vended foods.

Due to the increased use of power caused by industrial development, the importance of improving wear and friction in the contact region has emerged. Except for some parts, such as brakes or clutches and friction, seals and precision mechanical parts (e.g., pistons, bearings, valves, and cams) are important engine components that require low friction characteristics. In this study, the experimental method used to determine the friction characteristics was based on the type of rpm with the pin-on-disc test device, the element analysis program ANSYS was used to analyze the surfaces of the two metals rubbing together, and physical formation FEM models were used to study the properties and wear. The friction coefficient of variation was unsafe, but at the start of wear, it converged to a stable friction coefficient that increased after a certain slip away.
Using data from 132 telephone interviewees, we examined the role of affective-cognitive ambivalence in forming overall attitude and behavior toward toxic chemical and radioactive waste issues in Marion, Ohio in the U.S. In order to compare attitudinal preference, participants were divided into four A-C groups: action-group (Affective+/Cognitive+), detached-group (A-/C+), concerned-group (A+/C-), and inaction-group (A-/C-). Affective and cognitive components interacted, producing redundant influences on overall attitudes and judgments as frequently observed and postulated in previous attitude studies. The results showed that the action-group who were feeling unsafe and believed that environmental accidents had happened or are happening in Marion were less willing to move to the area than other three groups who were feeling safe and/or doubted reports of contamination and its relation with leukemia. Affective and cognitive components were found to have redundant influences on overall attitude. It was also observed that affective-cognitive ambivalence theory has a great potential for explaining the mechanism by which people form attitudes, especially when people have moderate or positive feelings (e.g. sympathy or eagerness for resources) toward the objects and/or when uncertainty is a major feature of environmental issue under consideration (e.g. global climate change).
Accident scenarios analysis is a course to understand, analyze, and describe a process of an accident and behavior pattern of the parties to an accident. The method of accident scenarios is that we described patterns represented between accidents and hazardous conditions, and then provide data to prevent the accident. We have carried out scenarios analysis in various fields so far, but it was not taking account of system. In this research, we made a study on technology of accident scenarios analysis using QFD (Quality Function Deployment) to analyze systematically and evaluate quantitatively types of hazards and scenarios of railway accident. And we analyses accident scenarios of a subject of work-related fatality accident to railway employee and conducted risk assessment for different scenarios. Also we defined relation between unsafe events and hazardous conditions caused to work-related fatality accident, and attempted to quantitatively assess work-related fatality accident and the parties to accidents. The results of this research will be used in analyzing for important causes and contributing factors of work-related fatality accidents at the step of risk assessment of railway system, and quantitatively assessing frequency of work-related accidents and risk.

This paper reports on punching shear behavior of reinforced concrete panels, investigated experimentally and through finite element simulation. The aim of the study was to examine the punching shear of high strength concrete panels incorporating different types of aggregate and silica fume, in order to assess the validity of the existing code models with respect to the role of compressive and tensile strength of high strength concrete. The variables in concrete mix design include three types of coarse aggregates and three water-cementitious ratios, and ten-percent replacement of silica fume. The experimental results were compared with the results produced by empirical prediction equations of a number of widely used codes of practice. The prediction of the punching shear capacity of high strength concrete using the equations listed in this study, pointed to a potential unsafe design in some of them. This may be a reflection of the overestimation of the contribution of compressive strength and the negligence of the role of flexural reinforcement. The overall findings clearly indicated that the extrapolation of the relationships that were developed for normal strength concrete are not valid for high strength concrete within the scope of this study and that finite element simulation can provide a better alternative to empirical code Equations.
In industrial plants such as nuclear power plants, system operations are performed by embedded controllers orchestrated by Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) software. A targeted attack (also termed a control aware attack) on the controller/SCADA software can lead a control system to operate in an unsafe mode or sometimes to complete shutdown of the plant. Such malware attacks can result in tremendous cost to the organization for recovery, cleanup, and maintenance activity. SCADA systems in operational mode generate huge log files. These files are useful in analysis of the plant behavior and diagnostics during an ongoing attack. However, they are bulky and difficult for manual inspection. Data mining techniques such as least squares approximation and computational methods can be used in the analysis of logs and to take proactive actions when required. This paper explores methodologies and algorithms so as to develop an effective monitoring scheme against control aware cyber attacks. It also explains soft computation techniques such as the computational geometric method and least squares approximation that can be effective in monitor design. This paper provides insights into diagnostic monitoring of its effectiveness by attack simulations on a four-tank model and using computation techniques to diagnose it. Cyber security of instrumentation and control systems used in nuclear power plants is of paramount importance and hence could be a possible target of such applications.

Numerous experimental studies have been conducted on reinforced concrete (RC) beams strengthened in shear with externally bonded fiber reinforced polymer (EBFRP). The objectives of this work are to study the behavioral trends of shear strengthened EBFRP RC beams after updating the existing database. The previously published databases have been updated, enriched and cross checked for completeness, redundancy and consistency. The updated database now contains data on 698 EBFRP beams and covers the time span from 1992 to 2018. The collected database then refined applying certain filters and used to investigate and capture better interactions among various influencing parameters affecting the shear strength of EBFRP beams. These parameters include the type and properties of FRP, fiber orientation as well as the strengthening scheme, the shear and the longitudinal steel reinforcement ratios, the shear span ratio, and the geometry of the member. The refined database is used to test the prediction accuracy of the existing design models. Considerable scatters are found in the results of all tested prediction models and in many occasions the predictions are unsafe. To better understand the shear behavior of the EBFRP RC beams and then enhance the prediction models, it was concluded that focused experimental programs should be carried out.
Specialty contractor facilities, which involve a combination of welding and commissioning, face a high risk of serious accidents such as fire, explosion, and suffocation associated with welding work, nitrogen, and argon use. In such facilities, the organizational safety culture has considerable impact on the frequency of accidents. In this study, a safety culture evaluation was conducted on specialty contractors. NOSACQ-50, a standardized survey method on safety culture, was selected as an assessment tool to evaluate the safety culture in specialized construction companies that could not afford to invest heavily in safety. The self-administered questionnaire survey was conducted with 201 workers of four construction companies and the results were analyzed. It was found that in companies with low safety culture, the occurrence of irrationality was 66.0%, while in companies with high safety culture, the occurrence of irrationality was 42.6%. Thus, the difference in the occurrence of irrationality by safety culture was statistically significant. The difference in safety culture level according to the experience of occurrence of irrationality was also significant. It was also found that the higher the belief in safety management authorization, safety responsibilities of managers, worker safety priorities, and safety system effects, the lower the probability of irrationality.

In modern buildings, glass is considered a structurally unsafe material due to its brittleness and unpredictable failure behavior. The possible use of structural glass elements (i.e., floors, beams and columns) is generally prevented by its poor tensile strength and a frequent occurrence of brittle failures. In this study an innovative modelling based on an equivalent thickness concept of laminated glass beam reinforced with FRP (Fiber Reinforced Polymer) composite material and of glass plates punched is presented. In particular, the novel numerical modelling applied to an embedding Carbon FRP-rod in the interlayer of a laminated structural glass beam is considered in order to increase both its failure strength, together with its post-failure strength and ductility. The proposed equivalent modelling of different specimens enables us to carefully evaluate the effects of this reinforcement. Both the responses of the reinforced beam and un-reinforced one are evaluated, and the corresponding results are compared and discussed. A novel equivalent modelling for reinforced glass beams using FRP composites is presented for FEM analyses in modern material components and proved estimations of the expected performance are provided. Moreover, the new suggested numerical analysis is also applied to laminated glass plates with wide holes at both ends for the technological reasons necessary to connect a glass beam to a structure. Obtained results are compared with an integer specimen. Experimental considerations are reported.

In road work zones, pedestrian workers' habituated inattention to warning alarms from construction vehicles can lead to fatal accidents. Previous studies have theorized that human factors such as personality traits may affect workers' inattentiveness to workplace hazards. However, there has been no study that directly examined how road construction workers' personality traits affect their attention to warning alarms within a work zone and the likelihood of engagement in a struck-by accident. This study examines how workers' sensation-seeking (especially boredom susceptibility) is related to inattention to warning alarms while performing a task in road work zones. An experiment with actual road construction workers was conducted using a virtual road construction environment. Workers' attention to repeatedly presented warning alarms was measured using eye-tracking sensors. In response to workers' frequent inattentive behaviors, a virtual accident was simulated. Results revealed a significant association between boredom susceptibility and workers' engagement in the virtual accident, a consequence of inattentiveness to warning alarms. The findings suggest that workers' personality traits predispose them to tune out warning alarms and become vulnerable to accidents in road work zones. The findings of this study can be used to develop targeted interventions aimed at preventing workers' inattention to repeatedly exposed workplace hazards, thereby contributing to reducing fatal accidents in road work zones.
