The Educational Idea Presenting In the SLMP's Standards (미국학교도서관기준에 나타난 SLMP의 교육적 이념)

  • In the modern communicative age, the standards of the school libraries are the qualitative guarantee on the services of school libraries or school library media programs, as the guidline, the active guide, the policy documentation and criteria for the professional excellence. The standards of SLMP were revised the sixth time by the school library profession(ALA) with the members or agency of NEA in the U.S. There are the first standard was a quantitative; 'the Certain Report'(by A.L.A., 1920) appearing that the school library is the heart of the school, 2nd 1925; turning up the teaching material source and personel, 'School Libraries for today and tomorrow' (by AASL, 1945) incluseing the instructional materials and the 7th educational ideas in the quantitative feature, 'Standards for School Library Programs' (by AASL, 1960) expressing the instructional material center, communicative environment, learning and teaching laboratory, 'Standards for school media programs' (by DAVI & AASL, 1969) implicating the instructional resource, learning and teaching laboratory, the condition precedent of qualitative education for excellence, 'Standards for media programs; District/school (by AASL & AECT, 1975) containing the improving user's educational experience and personal freedom on the use of SLMP's services. Through changing the standards of SLMP in the US, We have known that the main educational idea in the standards are; (1) SLMP is the instructional force and resource for qualitative, excellence education by learning and teaching laboratory, instructional resource, communicative environment (2) SLMP is the actualizing force and resource for user's self-realization by intellectual and personal excellence, individualizing, humanizing and personalizing education.

  • 2000년대 초반 이후 논의되기 시작한 도서관장애인서비스는 최근 도서관법(법률 제11310호, 2012.2.17 일부개정)이 개정되면서 그 중요성이 더욱 부각되고 있다. 본 연구는 도서관장애인서비스의 법적근거 및 추진체제, 주요 정책 내용을 살펴보고, 도서관발전종합계획(2009~2013)과 연도별 시행계획(2009~2012), 국립장애인도서관지원센터 업무 등을 분석하여 현재 우리나라 도서관장애인서비스 정책동향과 발전방안을 모색하였다. 현 시점에서의 우리나라 도서관장애인서비스 정책은 일선 도서관들이 효율적으로 콘텐츠와 시설을 구비하고 전문 인력을 확보할 수 있도록 함과 아울러 기반자원을 보유한 기관들의 적극적인 참여를 이끌어 낼 수 있는 방향으로 전개될 필요가 있다.

  • This study reviews several innovative electronic reference services that will be transformed in the age of the virtual library. This study focused on reference service via E-mail and electronic bulletin board which is regarded as the most important service in a variety of electronic reference services. Through E-mail and the electronic bulletin board, the user submits questions and the librarian responds with the answer. Though interest in using E-mail and electronic bulletin board as a basis for reference service has grown considerably in recent years, it is still in its infancy in Korea. Thus the purpose of this study is to propose a model electronic reference service system using E-mail and the electronic bulletin board for university libraries in Korea. This system consists of the following modules: electronic reference services policy, open reference service via electronic bulletin board, closed reference service via E-mail, and FAQ. This system is meant to be a guide for those considering implementing such a service.

  • The survey and interview about the management of e-book and its service scheme to the librarians who are actually charged with e-book service in libraries were performed and analyzed in this study. The objective of this study was to help the vitalization of e-book use and the realization of complete digital library based on the data.

  • With the popularization of smart-phone, a variety of application service user is a rising trend now. In contrast, studies concerning library application service that cast a long shadow over the life of students and citizens still lacking in many ways. This study evaluates user experience of Young-in Si public library application service, and investigates user requirements. I searched the real user reviews about Young-in Si library application both App store and Android market. As the final outcome, I found inconveniences and improvements of this service. The application is intuitive, but requires consistent design, strong identity and customizing main page. It will be suggested specific guidelines for the public library mobile services in other areas.

  • The present thesis aims to analyze in consideration of recent changes in teaching environment in the universities the commercial digital contents and e-learning courses provided by the libraries, and to propose the ways to encourage university library service needed under the current situation. A survey of professors and students upon the quality of commercial digital contents service provided by the libraries in I University was made to measure its influence upon e-learning courses. The quality of commercial digital contents service provided by libraries was measured through Digital Library Service Quality Index (which will be referred as DL-SQL Model from here), which is used as a model to examine the Digital Library Service, with partial adjustments of 4 levels (information system service, digital books service, customer service quality, and customer community service) and 7 components (search possibility, an exclusive organization and interface, accessibility, digital books, customer support service, personalized service, and customer community). Among the library services in regard to digital contents, "customer service" and "customer community service" were analyzed to have stronger influence upon e-learning teaching and studying than quality-based service for "information system" and "digital books". Consequently, it is concluded that customized information service provided by the library for the professors who teach e-learning courses and their students is more influential to supporting e-learning courses than quantity pushing service through purchasing commercial digital contents, upon which the direction of digital contents policy to provide library services for e-learning courses should be based.

  • We present a simple approach to finding the stationary workload of M/G/1 queues having generalized vacations and exhaustive service discipline. The approach is based on the level crossing technique. According to the approach, all that we need is the workload at the beginning of a busy period. An example system to which we apply the approach is the M/G/1 queue with both multiple vacations and D-policy.

Accessibility and Usability of Library Websites to Students with Visual and Physical Disabilities in Public Universities in Kenya

  • This article examines the accessibility and usability of library websites to students with visual and physical disabilities in public universities in Kenya. The study used survey research design and adopted a mixed methods approach. Data were gathered using survey questionnaire, focus group discussions, structured interviews, and observation. The study population consisted of six public universities that had a longstanding tradition of enrolling students with disabilities. Census was used to obtain a study sample comprising of students with visual disabilities (86), students with physical disabilities (91), University Librarians (6), Personnel from Disability Mainstreaming departments (6), Systems Librarians (6) and Library Personnel who provided information services to students with disabilities (133). The Social Model of Disability and IFLA Access to Libraries for Persons with Disabilities checklist were used as conceptual and theoretical framework in the study. Study results revealed that all the libraries had library websites. However, the websites did not have disability services page or information specific to individuals with disabilities. Also a section of students with disabilities lacked awareness of the existence of library websites and e-resources available through them. Additionally, the website design posed various access challenges. The study concluded that people with disabilities were excluded from access and use of library websites in public universities. The authors recommended that library websites must contain disability services page containing information specific to persons with disabilities. Moreover, libraries should evaluate their websites to ensure compliance with W3C requirements for web content accessibility. Additionally, libraries should develop disability policy to provide guidance on provision of information services to persons with disabilities.

  • At this point, the universities preparing the 21st century, require a great reform in various ways, especially a renovation of the function of the university library that can provide intellectual and information ability in information society is raised as an imminent task. Information technology, particularly the advanced technology in networking, have already constructed networks for university libraries using the information super-highway and it has enabled formation seekers to get the retrieved results transferred to their personal computers in a second. On the other hand, university libraries playing the most important role as an information center are still not corresponding effectively with the information age since it is tied down to the previous system, policy and tradition. The duty of university library is to distribute the accumulated, processed and stored academic information promptly and accurately to professors, researchers and students who are in need, and thereby to enhance their research capability, However, the present university libraries do not seem to be functioning smoothly due to the lack of an effective administrating system, budget, facilities, and human resources, Accordingly, our university libraries are in urgent need to be of a new and futuristic form appropriate for the 21st century. They must be able to cope with the growth of users' expectation in the future. This study examined several university libraries in the America, the structures of which have been reorganized, and also looked into the network(NACSIS) for the college and research libraries in Japan. In particular, the study focused on the following aspects : 1) changing role of university library, 2) new criteria for evaluating university libraries, 3) urgent need of a network for college and research libraries, 4) administrative support for the university libraries, and 5) case studies of the university libraries in the foreign countries. Finally, this study suggests a model for our university library in the 21st century.

An Empirical Study on the Difference of Recognition for Introduction of Information Management Systems on University Library in Korea (국내 대학도서관의 정보화경영체제 인식차이에 관한 실증적 연구)

  • University library in university organization needs more to innovating with through information management systems. In this paper introduced IMS to university library in Korea. In this paper investigated difference of recognition between college and university about IMS. The samples (n=67) were composed of those who had already engaged in university library and college. The results of this study were as follows; Most participants who was considerate no more important to mind for IMS introduction. Then, the results of ANOVA analysis was recognized employee's about IMS that among of the best problems was negative(-) effect to introduction necessary and introduction timeless of IMS was insignified with F=0.469(p=0.497), sig=0.05. and F=2.410(p=0.125), sig=0.05. By the way, education necessary of IMS was signified with F=7.470(p=0.008), sig=0.01. Finally, in this paper provided the fundamental data for the standardization and transparency related to policy establish of university library for introducing of IMS.
