  • Purpose: This study investigated the degree of stress, depression, mindfulness and life satisfaction of elderly patients who had undergone percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) and identified factors influencing life satisfaction. Methods: Participants were 106 patients over 60 years who had undergone PCI in a university hospital. Results: The mean scores for stress, depression, mindfulness, and life satisfaction were $9.10{\pm}2.53$, $7.77{\pm}3.32$, $88.57{\pm}8.47$, and $17.40{\pm}5.38$ respectively. There were statistically significant differences in life satisfaction by main source of income (F = 4.74, p = .004) and perceived health status as compared with peer (F = 4.80, p = .010). Depression (p < .001) explained 38 % of the total variance of life satisfaction, and the explanatory power increased to 42 % when mindfulness (p = .035) was added. There were significant correlations among stress, depression, mindfulness and life satisfaction of the patients. Conclusions: Depression and mindfulness were significant influencing factors on subjects' satisfaction in life. To enhance the life satisfaction of the elderly patients after PCI, it is necessary to reduce depression and to develop mindfulness-based interventions.

  • Purpose: Loneliness may be a typical psychological consideration in chronically ill patients, linking with low life satisfaction. We aimed to determine if loneliness would be independently associated with life satisfaction in pneumoconiosis patients hospitalized in long-term care facilities. Methods: We recruited 164 patients from 3 pneumoconiosis-specialized hospitals in M and S cities, South Korea, and measured loneliness and life satisfaction by using the University of California Los Angeles loneliness and life satisfaction index-Z scales. The Multiple regression analysis was performed to examine an independent association between loneliness and life satisfaction after adjustment for age, the levels of dyspnea and bronchitis-emphysema symptom, length of institutionalization, marital status, previous coal work experience, perceived socioeconomic status, and presence of caregivers. Results: The mean of loneliness was 46.4. We found a significant association between loneliness and life satisfaction (standardized beta=-0.16, p=0.049), independent of all the covariates. Conclusions: Loneliness was an independent associate of life satisfaction in patients with pneumoconiosis who were institutionalized in long-term care facilities. Thus, a nursing intervention strategy for relieving loneliness is needed to increase life satisfaction in these patients.

  • Recently, there has been an increase in wellbeing marketing, which focuses on increasing consumer life satisfaction or consumers' sense of subjective wellbeing. Numerous studies have been conducted to identify which aspects contribute to consumer life satisfaction. In order to provide additional insights into consumer life satisfaction, this study aimed to identify the relationships among social psychological variables (consciousness of social face, social interaction anxiety, and career anxiety), shopping confidence, and life satisfaction. Shopping confidence in this study relates to confidence for clothing/accessories. It was hypothesized that social psychological variables influence life satisfaction not only directly but also indirectly through shopping confidence. Data were gathered by surveying university students in Seoul, using convenience sampling. Two hundred eighty six questionnaires were used in the statistical analysis. Factor analysis of consciousness of social face revealed two factors, 'desire to gain face' and 'fear of losing face'. Factor analysis of social interaction anxiety, shopping confidence, and life satisfaction revealed that these variables were uni-dimensional. Test of the hypothesized path showed that all social psychological variables influenced life satisfaction indirectly through shopping confidence, whereas 'fear of losing face' of consciousness of social face and career anxiety influenced life satisfaction directly. The results give marketers some understanding of their consumers' life satisfaction in relation to consciousness of social face, social interaction anxiety, career anxiety, and shopping confidence.

  • This study researched the life satisfaction of grandparents currently rearing grandchildren between 0 to 6 years old. We conducted a survey in Seoul, Gyeonggi-do, and Jeolla-do, collecting 134 questionnaires in total. The results of this study are as follows. First, the parenting efficacy of grandparents presently rearing grandchildren had a profound impact on life satisfaction. Precedent studies revealed that the physical conditions of grandparents, their education levels, and household income were factors related to the life satisfaction of seniors. However, the results of this study showed that parenting efficacy had a far greater effect on life satisfaction than other factors. It was revealed in this study that parenting efficacy is a very important variable for life satisfaction, not only for mothers and grandmothers but for all grandparents. In addition, the characteristics of the grandchildren also had an effect on the life satisfaction of their grandparents, although not more than parenting efficacy. Out of the characteristics of grandchildren, variables including sex and the presence or absence of disease were shown to have effects on life satisfaction. Secondly, the difficulty of parenting activities influences parenting efficacy, and parenting efficacy has an impact on the life satisfaction of grandparents. The more difficult the parenting activities of grandparents, the lower the parenting efficacy, and the higher the parenting efficacy, the higher the life satisfaction of grandparents.

  • The purpose of this study is to analysis the effects of religious activities on adolescents' life satisfaction. For this purpose, we surveyed the general trend of adolescents' religious activities and life satisfaction as well as life satisfaction according to demographical variables. In addition, this study analyzed adolescents' life satisfaction according to variables related to individual adolescents' religious activities and to parents' religious activities. The analyses of the results are as follows. First, since the childhood, adolescents have been participated in religious activities habitually or by enforcement or encouragement of their acquaintances. However, most adolescents think that the main purposes of their religious activities are a receiving grace and self-growing. So, they are willing to participate in worship service and spiritual training camp. Second, adolescents' life satisfaction was high when they got a high grade in school or they felt their health condition is good. The life satisfaction of adolescents who belong to economically high class families and whose fathers were college graduates or above is high. Third, the facts that effect on adolescent's life satisfaction are not how long they spend their time on religious activity, but the contents, motives and purposes of religious activities and satisfaction with religious activities. Fourth, adolescents' life satisfaction was high when their parents have same religion to them and their fathers participated in religious activities and their mothers did not participate in religious activities.
