  • Quite often we have a lot of measurement data and would like to find some relation between them. One common task is to see whether some measured data or a curve of known shape fit into the cumulative measured data. The problem can be visualized since data could generally be presented as curves or planes in Cartesian coordinates where each curve could be represented as a vector. In most cases we have measured the cumulative 'curve', we know shapes of other 'curves' and would like to determine unknown coefficients that multiply the known shapes in order to match the measured cumulative 'curve'. This problem could be presented in more complex variants, e.g., a constant could be added, some missing (unknown) data vector could be added to the measured summary vector, and instead of constant factors we could have polynomials, etc. All of them could be solved with slightly extended version of the procedure presented in the sequel. Solution procedure could be devised by reformulating the problem as a measurement problem and applying the generalized inverse of the measurement matrix. Measurement problem often has some errors involved in the measurement data but the least squares method that is comprised in the formulation quite successfully addresses the problem. Numerical examples illustrate the solution procedure.

  • Let M be a semi-invariant submanifold of codimension 3 with almost contact metric structure (𝜙, 𝜉, 𝜂, g) in a complex space form Mn+1(c). We denote by A, K and L the second fundamental forms with respect to the unit normal vector C, D and E respectively, where C is the distinguished normal vector, and by R𝜉 = R(𝜉, ·)𝜉 the structure Jacobi operator. Suppose that the third fundamental form t satisfies dt(X, Y) = 2𝜃g(𝜙X, Y) for a scalar 𝜃(≠ 2c) and any vector fields X and Y , and at the same time R𝜉K = KR𝜉 and ∇𝜙𝜉𝜉R𝜉 = 0. In this paper, we prove that if it satisfies ∇𝜉R𝜉 = 0 on M, then M is a real hypersurface of type (A) in Mn(c) provided that the scalar curvature $\bar{r}$ of M holds $\bar{r}-2(n-1)c{\leq}0$.

  • The expression vector (pWHM3-TR1R2) for sprT gene encoding Streptomyces griseus trypsin (SGT) followed by two regulatory genes, sgtR1 and sgtR2, was introduced into Streptomyces lividans TK24 and Streptomyces griseus IFO 13350. Various media with different compositions were used to maximize the productivity of SGT in the recombinant trains. he SGT productivity was best when the transformant of S. lividans TK24 was cultivated in R2YE medium (0.74 unit/mL) at 5 days of cultivation. C5/L (0.66 unit/mL) medium also gave a good productivity, but Livid (0.08 unit/mL) and NDSK (0.06 unit/mL) yielded poor productivities. S. griseus IFO 13350/pWHM3-TR1R2 produced SGT by 1.518 unit/mL (C5/L), 1.284unit/mL (R2YE),0.932 unit/mL (NDSK), and 0.295 unit/mL (Livid) at 7 days of cultivation, which was much higher than those from S. lividans TK24/TR1R2. The SGT protein was purified from the culture broth of S. griseus IFO 13350/pWHM3-TR1R2 in C5/L to homogeneity via ammonium sulfate fractionation, and CM-sepharose and SP-sepharose column chromatographies. The specific activity of purified SGT was 69,252 unit/mg, and the final purification fold and recovery yield were 6.5 and 1.4%, respectively.

  • In error-prone wireless environments, it is difficult to realize video coding systems that are robust to various types of data loss. In this paper, a novel motion-vector refinement approach is presented for video error concealment. A traditional boundary-matching approach is exploited to reduce blocky effects along the block boundary. More specifically, a downhill simplex approach is combined with a boundary-matching approach to fine-tune the motion vectors, reducing the blocky effects along the prediction unit block boundary, and minimizing the computational cost. Extensive simulations are performed, and the results obtained verify the robustness and effectiveness of the proposed approach.

  • To prevent the critical situation due to the fault in the aircraft sensor system, the fault tolerant system with triple or quadruple redundancy can be made. However, if the faults are occurred in two or more than sensors simultaneously, the conventional fault detection process, such as cross-channel monitoring, may give the wrong fault alarm. For this case, we can detect the fault by estimating the state vector based on the system dynamics model, which is nonlinear for aircraft. In this paper, we propose the unscented Kalman filter to estimate the nonlinear state vector. This filter utilizes the so-called unscented transformation of sigma points featured the statistical characteristics of the random variable. For verification, we perform the simulations for F-16 aircraft with accelerometers, gyros, GPS and air data system.

  • In this paper, a novel test method is proposed to detect hard and soft fault in CMOS operational amplifiers. Proposed test method mark use of the offset character, which is one of the op-amps characteristics. During the test mode, CUT is implemented to unit gain op-amps with feedback loop. When the input is grounded, a good circuit has a small offset voltage, but a faulty circuit has a large offset voltage exceeding predefined range of tolerance. Using the proposed method, no test vector is required to be applied. Therefore the test vector generation problem is eliminated and the test time is reduced. The accuracy and effectiveness of the method is verified through HSPICE simulation.

  • According to the Korea Tectonic Map, the Korean Peninsula can be divided into seven tectonic units and each of them shows a peculiar deformation pattern. In order to estimate an amount of crustal deformation in the Korean peninsula, we obtained the velocity vector fields of South Korea by dealing with the data set of the years 2001 and 2002, measured from the permanent GPS stations across the country To obtain a relatively precise coordinate of each station, we used GAMIT that is a comprehensive GPS analysis package developed at MIT, Then, a Kalman filter called GLOBK is used to combine the results from GAMIT and to estimate the relative velocity vector for the crustal deformations. The crustal movement of South Korea is turned out to be about 1mm per year westward and about 0.6mm per year southward. In case of Suwon and Seosan(Gyeonggi Massif), the movement occurs slightly to the north-east direction. The movement of a relative velocity field in the tectonic unit is unidirectional, yet the magnitude of the velocity is very small.

  • For implementing the proportional navigation guidance law on passive homing missiles equipped with strapdown imaging infrared seekers, the line-of-sight angles and rates with respect to the inertial frame should be estimated by carefully handling the parasitic instability effect due to the seeker's latency. By introducing a new state vector representation along with the Pade approximation for compensating the time-delay of the seeker, this paper proposes a new guidance filter structure, stochastic dynamic models and measurement equations, in three-dimensional homing problem. Then, it derives the line-of-sight angle and rate estimator in general two-dimensional engagement by applying the extended Kalman filter to the proposed structure. The estimation performance and the characteristics of the proposed filter were evaluated via a series of numerical experiments.

  • Let G be a cyclic group of order 2 and let $S^1$ denote the unit circle in $R^2$ with the standard metric. We consider smooth G-vector bundles over $S^1$ when G acts on $S^1$ by reflection. Then the fixed point set of G on $S^1$ is two points ${z_0, z_1}$. Let $E$\mid$_{z_0} and E$\mid$_{z_1}$ be the fiber G-representation spaces at $z_0$ and $z_1$ respectively. We associate an orthogonal G-representation $\rho_i : G \to O(n)$ to $E$\mid$_{z_i}, i = 0, 1$. Let det $p\rho_i(g), g \neq 1$, be denoted by det $E$\mid$_{z_i}$ since det $\rho_i(g)$ is independent of choice of $\rho_i$.
