UNSTEADY HARTMANN FLOW WITH HEAT TRANSFER IN THE PRESENCE OF UNIFORM SUCTION AND INJECTION

  • The unsteady Hartmann flow of an electrically conducting, viscous, incompressible fluid bounded by two parallel non-conducting porous plates is studied with heat transfer. An external uniform magnetic field and a uniform suction and injection are applied perpendicular to the plates while the fluid motion is subjected to a constant pressure gradient. The two plates are kept at different but constant temperatures while the Joule and viscous dissipations are included in the energy equation. The effect of the magnetic field and the uniform suction and injection on both the velocity and temperature distributions is examined.

  • The stability of coal pulverizer in the 800 MW coal-fired plants is vital to maintain their performance. Thus, this study analyzed the uneven abrasion of the deflector and coal spillage due to the air velocity maldistribution in the vane wheel of a bowl-type pulverizer as it is a possible cause for problems of facility using pulverized coal. In addition, air flow in the underbowl of a bowl-type pulverizer was studied to check air velocity maldistribution in the vane wheel using numerical method. In an attempt to correct the maldistribution of air velocity, air flow of the modified duct vane was studied as enlarging the length of the duct vanes installed at the air inlet duct of the pulverizer and increasing the angle of inclination. It was found that modified duct vane make the velocity distribution at the vane wheel uniform. formed by the duct vanes installed at the air inlet duct of the pulverizer and swirling flow is the major factor in making the velocity distribution of vane wheel exit uniform. This can prevent the uneven abrasion of the deflector, which is one of the components inside the pulverizer and coal spillage.

  • A two-dimensional continuum model for the prediction of the hydrogen mixing phenomena in the containment compartment under the severe accident conditions is developed. The model could predict well the distribution of time-dependent hydrogen concentration for selected HEDL Experiment. For a simulation of these experiments, the hydrogen is mixed uniform over the test compartment. To predict the extent of non-uniform distribution, the dominant factors such as the geometrical shape of obstacle and velocity of source injection in mixing phenomena are investigated. If the obstacle disturbing the flow of gas mixture exists in the compartment, the uniform distribution of hydrogen may be not guaranteed. The convective circulation of gas flow is separately formed up and down of the obstacle position, which makes a difference of hydrogen concentration between the upper and lower region of the compartment. The recirculation flow must have a considerable mass flow rate relative to velocity of the source injection to sustain the well-mixed conditions of hydrogen.

  • This paper addresses the control of free and dynamic response of composite rotating pretwisted blade modeled as non-uniform thin-walled beam fixed at the certain presetting and pretwisted angle and incorporating piezoelectric induced damping capabilities. A distributed piezoelectric actuator pair is used to suppress the vibrations caused by external disturbances. The blade model incorporates non-uniform features such as transverse shear, secondary warping and includes the centrifugal and Coriolis force field. A velocity feedback control law relating the piezoelectiriccally induced transversal bending moment at the beam tip with the appropriately selected kinematical response quantity is used and the beneficial effects upon the closed loop eigenvibration and dynamic characteristics of the blade are highlighted.

원형실린더를 지나는 균일전단 유동에 관한 수치연구 (Numerical Study on Uniform-Shear Flow Over a Circular Cylinder)

  • The present study has numerically investigated two-dimensional laminar flow over a circular cylinder with a uniform planar shear, where the free-stream velocity varies linearly across the cylinder. Numerical simulations using the immersed boundary method are performed for the ranges of $50{\le}Re{\le}160,\;K{\le}0.2$, and B=0.1 and 0.05 where Re, K and B are the Reynolds number, the non-dimensionalized velocity gradient and the blockage ratio, respectively. Results show that the flow depends significantly on B as well as Re and K. It is found, especially, that the blockage effect accounts for some causes of apparent discrepancies among previous studies on the flow. With increasing K, the vortex shedding frequency and the mean drag stay nearly constant or slightly decrease whereas the mean lift, acting from the higher-velocity side to the lower, increases linearly. Flow statistics as well as instantaneous flow fields are presented to identify the characteristics of the flow and then to understand the underlying mechanism.

  • This report deals with a study on the boundary layer characteristics of TP620 hydrofoil in the steady state by using two dimensional boundary layer theory. On the basis of complex velocity and laminar and turbulent boundary layer theory, the author attempts to know some tendency by evaluating the performance characteristic values of TP620 hydrofoil working in a uniform flow. In deriving characteristic values, he calculates numerically velocity, momentum thickness, skin friction coefficient, shape factor, and displacement thickness on the TP620 hydrofoil working at each attack angle in a uniform flow. Applying this present numerical calculation using Thwaites' and Head's method, the results of boundary layer on the hydrofoil are shown to be influenced by surface velocity and attack angle.

  • The pressure fluctuations in a gas-solid fluidized bed has been analysed using s statistical method interpreting fluidized 냥d behavior. The performing statistical a analysis of the pressure fluctuations in a fluidized bed of 6.7cm-ID. using uniform p particle size of 115 to $1015{\mu}m$ in diameter. The fluidized gas used air(velocity 0.1~1.2m/sec) at settled bed height to diameter ratios which is LlD=l.O. Then, the pressure fluctuations measured by DPT(differantial pressure transducer). The measuring characteristic values of pressure fluctuation were the mean value and standard value, and also, it has been found that the standard deviation of the pressure fluctuations can be effectively used to predict minimum fluidizing velocity and to explain the fluidized phenomena.

  • A numerical optimization procedure is developed to find the inlet velocity profile that yields the most uniform epitaxial layer in a vertical MOCVD reactor. It involves the solution of fully elliptic equations of motion, temperature, and concentration; the finite volume method based on SIMPLE algorithm has been adopted to solve the Navier-Stokes equations. The overall optimization process is highly nonlinear and has been efficiently treated by the sequential linear programming technique that breaks the non-linear problem into a series of linear ones. The optimal profile approximated by a 6th-degree Chebyshev polynomial is very successful in reducing the spatial non-uniformity of the growth rate. The optimization is particularly effective to the high Reynolds number flow. It is also found that a properly constructed inlet velocity profile can suppress the buoyancy driven secondary flow and improve the growth-rate uniformity.

  • The coherent wake structures behind a spinning cylinder placed in a uniform flow were experimentally investigated by means of phase averaging technique. With a fixed cylinder Reynolds number (Re=6,600), the conditionally sampled velocity vectors were obtained at a section of 3.0 and 10 diameters behind the cylinder for the range of spin parameter S(the ratio of the peripheral velocity to that of the uniform flow) 0 to 2. Spectral analysis and vorticity contours of the velocity data show that up to S=1.2, a Karman vortex street exists within the wake, however, the coherent structures become obscure and their vorticity strength decreases as S increase. Beyond S=1.2, a distinct vortex shedding frequency no longer exists, furthermore coherent structures disappear when S is over 1.6.

  • A method for the dynamic analysis of curved beam conveying fluid presents. The dynamics of curved beam is based on inextensible theory and the fluid in curved beam has uniform velocity. The equations of motion of curved beam are decoupled by in-plane motion and out-of$.$Plane motion. The solutions of equations are presented by a finite element method and validate by comparing the natural frequency with analytical solution, straight beam theories and Nastran. The influence of fluid velocity on the frequency response function is illustrated and discussed.
