  • Uniform $TiO_2$ blocking layers (BLs) are fabricated using ultrasonic spray pyrolysis deposition (USPD) method. To improve the photovoltaic performance of dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs), the BL thickness is controlled by using USPD times of 0, 20, 60, and 100 min, creating $TiO_2$ BLs of 0, 40, 70, and 100 nm, respectively, in average thickness on fluorine-doped tin oxide (FTO) glass. Compared to the other samples, the DSSC containing the uniform $TiO_2$ BL of 70 nm in thickness shows a superior power conversion efficiency of $7.58{\pm}0.20%$ because of the suppression of electron recombination by the effect of the optimized thickness. The performance improvement is mainly attributed to the increased open-circuit voltage ($0.77{\pm}0.02V$) achieved by the increased Fermi energy levels of the working electrodes and the improved short-circuit current density ($15.67{\pm}0.43mA/cm^2$) by efficient electron transfer pathways. Therefore, optimized $TiO_2$ BLs fabricated by USPD may allow performance improvements in DSSCs.

  • A series of experiments were conducted to generate fine liquid(water) drops through the electrohydrodynamic atomization process. The atomization mode depended on flow rate and DC voltage input. For water, having electric conductivity larger than 10(sup)-7S/m, the spindle mode turned out to be the only mode to generate uniform-size drops within the range of 30-450 microns that have wide applications. Within this mode, both the uniformity and the fineness of drops were improved at an optimum voltage input for a given flow rate. This optimum voltage increased with increasing of the liquid flow rate. Another important parameter considered was the nozzle material with different electric conductivity and liquid wettability. A stainless-steel nozzle (the material with high electric conductivity and high liquid wettability) and a silica nozzle (the electrically non-conducting material with low liquid wettability) were tested and compared; and more uniform drops could be obtained with the silica nozzle.

  • Purpose: In this study, the effect of changes in the variables related to water droplets on the spray density on the floor in the analysis of the water mist fire protection system using FDS was analyzed. Method: When the spray of the water mist nozzle was analyzed in FDS, Particles Per Seconds, Particle Velocity, Size Distribution, and Spray Pattern Shape that can be set in relation to droplets were input to review the analyzed results. Result: In the analysis results, when the number of particles per second was set above a certain value, the spray density of the floor was similar. In the case of Particle Velocity, as the velocity decreases, the spray density of the central portion increases but decreases at a distance of 0.15m or more. From the analysis of the change in the size distribution function, it was found that an increase in the 𝛾 value increases the spray density of the central part, but the value at a remote location decreases. Compared to the result of applying the Gaussian distribution, the median value decreases dramatically when the uniform distribution is applied, but the value at the adjacent position increases. Conclusion: Variables related to the droplet properties of the FDS affect the spray density of the floor. Therefore, in order to increase the reliability of results before performing analyses such as fire suppression or cooling, a sufficient review of input variables is required.

  • In order to develop an precision aerial pesticide application system to be attached to an unmanned helicopter which can be applied to small lots of land, this study analyzed the flowing and spraying characteristics of the spray droplets by the main rotor downwash by setting the application conditions at the flight altitude of 3 m, the diameter of main rotor of 3.1 m, the boom length of around 2.8 m, and the spraying rate of 8 L/ha. The results of this study are summarized below. Through analysis of the covering area ratio of the spray droplets by main rotor downwash by nozzle type, boom with tilt angle and height, it was found that the covering area ratio of the twin flat-fan nozzle of around 25% was more uniform than other types of nozzle, also boom with $10^{\circ}$ tilt angle and spraying height of 3 m was shown to be the appropriate conditions for aerial application of pesticides. It was found that the nozzle position to minimize the scattering loss of spray droplets due to vortex phenomenon at both ends of the main rotor was around 10 cm from the end of the main rotor. An application test for the aerial pesticide application system attached to the HUA-ACEI unmanned helicopter developed by the Rural Development Administration showed that the range of covering area ratio of the spray droplets was 10-25%, and the spraying width was approximately 7 m when over 10% of covering area ratio was considered for valid spraying.

  • Zinc coatings are widely used because of their environmental friendliness and high performance. In general, the coating temperature is a major factor in determining the coating layer thickness and coating quality. In the case of a zinc coating, a uniform and appropriate coating temperature is required. In this study, a thermal flow simulation of the air flow was performed to analyze the temperature distribution of a zinc spray coating room in a natural convection state. Using SolidWorks, modeling was performed for two spray coating rooms, a preheating room, and a drying room, and a thermal flow coupled analysis was performed using ANSYS-FLUENT. As a result of the analysis, the temperature distribution characteristics in the spray coating rooms were determined. It was found that the present temperature was below the target temperature of $25^{\circ}C$. Simulations were conducted for two different boundary conditions (one with a heater added and another with the open part closed). The simulation results show that the method of closing the open part is better than adding the heater.

  • The skill that utilizes atomization of the liquid has been widely used in the field of industry and engineering. Though there are dozens of methods to make atomization, the pressure type injection nozzle is frequently used in washing of parts, pastourization and painting because it has relatively simple system. This study is to reveal the characteristics of atomizing formed by three different types of the pressure type injection nozzle. We measured velocity and diameter of droplet to compare and analyze characteristic of each nozzle. In case of velocity, atomization of hollow-cone nozzle is irregular than others and change of radial direction is especially large. Atomization of flat nozzle is nearly uniform. In case of diameter, atomization of hollow-cone nozzle is increased rapidly, as measurement point become more distant from the center of nozzle. Atomization of flat nozzle has the most fixed magnitude. Accordingly, full-cone nozzle can be used irrespective of the form of subject and hollow-cone nozzle is proper to the occasion to spray large and smooth subject. Also, flat nozzle is proper to the occasion to spray a part of subject and long groove.

  • The effects of ambient conditions on vaporizing sprays from a high-pressure swirl injector were investigated by an exciplex fluorescence method. Dopants used were 2% fluorobenzene and 9% DEMA (diethyl-methyl-amine) in 89% solution of hexane by volume. In order to examine the behavior of liquid and vapor phases inside of vaporizing sprays, ambient temperatures and pressures similar to engine atmospheres were set. It was found that the ambient pressure had a significant effect on the axial growth of spray, while ambient temperature had a great influence on the radial growth. The spatial distribution of vapor phase at temperatures above 473K became wider than that of liquid phase after half of injection duration. From the analysis of the area ratio for each phase, the middle part (region II) in the divided region was the region which liquid and vapor phases intersect. For liquid phase, fluorescence-intensity ratio was greatly changed at lms after the start of injection. However, the ratio of vapor phase was nearly uniform in each divided region throughout the injection.

  • The chemical mechanical planarization (CMP) process combines the chemical effect of slurry with the mechanical effect of abrasive (slurry)-wafer-pads The slurry delivery system has a notable effect on polishing results, because the slurry distribution is changed by the supply method. Thus, the investigation of slurry pumps and nozzles with regard to the slurry delivery system becomes important. This paper investigated the effect of a centrifugal slurry pump on a spray nozzle system in terms of uniform slurry supply under a rotating copper (Cu) wafer, based on experimental results and computational fluid dynamics (CFD). In conventional tools, the slurry is unevenly and discontinuously supplied to the pad, due to a pulsed flow caused by the peristaltic pump and distributed in a narrow area by the tube nozzle. Adopting the proposed slurry delivery system provides a higher uniformity and lowered shear stress than usual methods. Therefore, the newly developed slurry delivery system can improve the CMP performance.

  • As a second part of the comparison study, microscopic features of an air-assisted fuel injector(AAFI) and a high-pressure swirl injector (HPSI) were characterized. They consist of the internal spray structure in terms of fuel mass and drop diameter, the overall atomization performance with respect to operating parameters and the drop size distribution. Large droplets are concentrated in around the head part of a spray field of the HPSI, while in the case of the AAFI, they were distributed in the tail part. Although the AAFI showed the better atomization performance, the feasible ranges of operating parameters such as injection and ambient pressure were found to be wider in the HPSI. Drop size distribution of the AAFI sprays was more dispersed than that of the HPSI. Drop size distribution of the AAFI sprays was more dispersed than that of the HPSI. However, at the well-atomized condition, it appeared to be very uniform.

  • In this research, internal-mixing twin-fluid atomizer using sonic energy is designed and manufactured. We are trying to intimate high efficiency twin-fluid atomizer to obtain good liquid atomization in the low pressure region. Define of geometric form of atomizer, characteristics of spray is influenced by position, depth and height variation of cavity resonator, variation of sound intensity and resonant sound frequency with liquid flow rate. The liquid atomization is promoted by multi-stage disintegration of mixing flow of gas with liquid and the optimum condition of position and depth of cavity resonator according to sonic energy is obtained from the condition at a=2.5mm and L=2mm. The velocity distribution of droplets shows negative value due to recirculation region at the center of axial, and as the radial direction distance is far, the velocity distribution of droplets decrease slowly after having a maximum value. However velocity and SMD show nearly uniform distribution at the down stream and as result compared to Nukiyama and Tanasawa's equation. atomization of mixing flow with air and liquid dispersing from the outlet of the nozzle is promoted by the effect of collision at the cavity resonator.
