In this study, a numerical study was carried out to simulate the expansion of ground borehole by pulse discharge technology using finite element analysis. Considering the mortar in the borehole as an acoustic medium and the surrounding soil as an elasto-plastic material, the strong shock wave developed by the pulse discharge was modeled using the underwater explosion model. The ground expansion was simulated based on a coupled acoustic-structural analysis with varying properties of mortar and soil, and the behavior between acoustic-structural interface.
Two kinds of polyurethane elastomers were prepared and their acoustical properties underwater investigated. Their dynamic mechanical properties were measured using a dynamic mechanical analyzer. The sound speed and echo reduction in the 1-50 kHz frequency range were calculated from the data obtained using the analyzer. The sound speed, transmission and attenuation cofficient in 300-800 kHz were measured in a water-filled tank. Impedance tube experiments were performed to determine the reflective coefficient and echo reduction in the 3-8 kHz range. The polyurethane elastomer containing a hollow glass sphere showed a lower reflective coefficient and a higher echo reduction than the polyurethane elastomer without a filler.

There is a gap between the inner wall of a pulse tube and an underwater acoustic material when the measurement for transmission loss by the pulse tube is carried out. In this paper, the effect, which is caused by the gap, for the measurement of transmission loss is analyzed. Transmission coefficient is derived from the ratio of the pressures between front and rear of the gap. Then, transmission loss for specimen with a gap is obtained by combining the transmission coefficients of the gap and specimen. The results of experiment and simulation for a specimen of stainless steel with 10 mm thickness are compared in order to evaluate the simulation model. Finally, simulations with respect to the gap size and transmission loss of a specimen are performed to analyze and evaluate the effect of the gap in measurement of transmission loss.

Underwater wireless communication is a challenging issue for realizing the smart aqua-farm and various marine activities for exploring the ocean and environmental monitoring. In comparison to acoustic and radio frequency technologies, the visible light communication is the most promising method to transmit data with a higher speed in complex underwater environments. To send data at a speedier rate, high-performance photodetectors are essentially required to receive blue and/or cyan-blue light that are transmitted from the light sources in a light-fidelity (Li-Fi) system. Here, we fabricated high-performance organic phototransistors (OPTs) based on P-type donor polymer (PTO2) and N-type acceptor small molecule (IT-4F) blend semiconductors. Bulk-heterojunction (BHJ) PTO2:IT-4F photo-active layer has a broad absorption spectrum in the range of 450~550 nm wavelength. Solution-processed OPTs showed a high photo-responsivity >1,000 mA/W, a large photo-sensitivity >103, a fast response time, and reproducible light-On/Off switching characteristics even under a weak incident light. BHJ organic semiconductors absorbed photons and generated excitons, and efficiently dissociated to electron and hole carriers at the donor-acceptor interface. Printed and flexible OPTs can be widely used as Li-Fi receivers and image sensors for underwater communication and underwater internet of things (UIoTs).
Three kinds of rubber compounds were prepared, and their underwater acoustical properties were investigated for anechoic coating. Dynamic mechanical properties of the rubber compounds were measured using a dynamic mechanical analyzer and extended to 100 kHz using time-temperature superposition. The sound speed, reflection coefficient, and attenuation constant were calculated. Silicone rubber showed the lowest reflection coefficient, and nitrile rubber showed the highest attenuation constant. The acoustic properties of nitrile rubber compounds with various compositions were investigated. The sound speed, reflection coefficient, and transmission coefficient of the nitrile rubber in the frequency range of 200-1000 kHz were measured in a water-filled tank.
In this paper, a design method of matching layers is presented for the sandwich type broad band underwater acoustic vibrators. The characteristic impedances of matching layers are determined to be matched to the characteristic impedance of head mass material. For the dynamic characteristic analysis of the sandwich type transducers, one dimensional FEM technique is also introduced. A test vibrator with the quarter wave matching layers has been designed to verify the proposed method. And the wide band characteristics of the input impedance and transmitting voltage response (TVR) are investigated.
A theoretical study is presented for the prediction of the scattering of obliquely incident plane acoustic wave by transversely isotropic cylindrical shells immersed in water. In dorder to illustrate the vailidity of the theory backscattering form functions are compared with the existing results for degenerated problems: the catterings by isotropic shell and transversely isotropic solid cylinder. The unidirectional fiber reinforced boron-aluminum composites are selected as a model of transversely isotropic materials having potential applications in practice. From the resonant scattering analysis of the partial backscattering form functions, the dispersion curves for fluid-borne Stoneley wave, guided wave along the shell, and the lowest three Lamb type waves can be found. The Lamb type dispersions are compared with those of the flat plate. The variation of anisotropy significantly affects the properties of circumferential waves. From these results, it can be possible to identify parametrically the material properties of anisotropic cylindrical targets.

In this paper, the optimization has been performed to design a multi-layer structure that is used as a structure for noise reduction of acoustic sonar sensors in underwater vehicles. Two design goals are considered to reduce self-noise from own machineries and to enhance acoustic signals detected from outside. Both distinct and continuous design parameters have been used such as selection of material properties of each layer and thickness of each layer, respectively. The sensitivity of design parameters has been analyzed and the evolutionary algorithm has been implemented for design optimization. For design optimization process, each of the design goals and the two combined design goals have been considered to analyze the achievement of those design goals.
Recently, fiber optic hydrophone is a subject which has attracted as a underwater acoustic sensor. In this paper, a length of optical fiber is bonded to an end-capped hollow cylinder of some elastic material, e. g. aluminum and glass-pyres. The normalized sensitivity is derived according to the direction of polarization. Derived sensitivity equations are simulated for two different mandrel materials. The results are also compared to the McMahon's results which calculated for an average Pockel coefficient. Based on the numerical simulation normalized sensitivity is propotional to the inner to outer diameter ratio.

A low frequency, high power hydroacoustic transducer with 7 tonpilz piston elements assembled in a circular array suitable for marine application, such as the transmission of underwater information and the development of new fisheries resources in the deep sea zone was designed. A modified Mason's model was applied to monitor and to simulate the transducer behavior at each step during the fabrication. The in air, and in water constructed tonpilz transducer was tested experimentally and numerically by changing the size and the type of the material for head, tail and acoustic window. Also, the developed transducer was excited by pulse signals and the received waveform was analyzed. The resonance peaks in the transmitting voltage response(TVR) of a single tonpilz element without housing were observed at 11.33kHz in air and 10.93kHz in air and 10.93 kHz in water, respectively, with the overall electrical-acoustic efficiency of 43.7%. The value of TVR of single tonpilz element with aluminum housing in water was 129.87dB re 1 $\mu$Pa/V at 12.25 kHz with the frequency bandwith of 2.15 kHz and half beam angle of 30.2$^{\circ}$at -3dB.The resonance peaks in the transmitting voltage response of the 7 element circular transducer were observed at 11.50 kHz in air and 11.45 kHz in water, respectively. The value of TVR in water 144.84 dB re 1$\mu$Pa/V at 11.5kHz with the frequency bandwith of 4.25 kHz and the half beam angle of $22.3^{\circ} $ at -3dB.Reasonable agreement between the experimental measurements and the theoretical predictions for the directivity patterns, TVRs and the impedance characteristics of the designed transducer was achieved.
