  • Ultra small optical drive or PCMCIA type needs a focusing actuator because or applying Blue Laser and enhancing compatibility according to disk physical specification. Based on this need, this paper presents a novel focusing actuator adapted for ultra small optical drive of PCMCIA type. The focusing actuator using Lorenz force generated consists of coil, magnets and plate springs of pivoting. The design issues of the focusing actuator are the flexibility to focus direction, the rigidity to track direction and the higher natural mode of the moving part. For settling these Issues, this paper present mechanical design, computer simulations and test results of the realized focusing actuator. Finally, suitability and usefulness of the focusing actuator was demonstrated by the comparison of simulations and test results in a view of the possibility adapted for ultra small optical drive.

  • In the present research, the simultaneous punching of ultra small size hole of $2\~10\;{\mu}m$ in diameter on flat rolled thin metal foils was conducted with elastic polymer punch. Workpiece used in the present investigation were the rolled pure copper of $3{\mu}m$ in thickness and CP titanium of 1.5fm in thickness. The metal foils were punched with the dies and arrays of circular and rectangular holes were made. The process set-up is similar to that of the flexible rubber pad farming or Guerin process. Arrays of holes were punched successfully in one step forming. The punched holes were examined in terms of their dimensions. The effects of the wafer die hole dimension and heat treatment of the workpiece on ultra small size hole formation of the thin foil were discussed. The process condition such as proper die shape, pressure, pressure rate and diameter-thickness ratio (d/t) were also discussed. The results in this paper show that the present method can be successfully applied to the fabrication of ultra small size hole away in a one step operation.

  • For automatic landing of small VTOL UAV, it is necessary to calculate the distance from the UAV and the ground. The distance can be generally measured by a ultra-sonic sensor, but the ultra-sonic sensor has errors according to velocity of a sensor board. To compensate these errors, we proposed a sensor fusion method using a Kalman filter.

  • In this study, we developed nonvolatile residue (NVR) real-time monitoring system to measure the nonvolatile residue particle in ultra pure water (UPW). This device has a capability of measuring 4 different channels, i.e., 10 nm, 30 nm, 50 nm, and 100 nm. Until now, the light scattering method to detect RAE(residue after evaporation) was the only choice. However, this method can detect RAE larger than ca. 50 nm. In ultra pure water, RAE particles are usually very small and hard to detect with conventional laser scattering devices. To detect very small RAEs, a new system is developed and tested. The system consists of an atomizer that generates RAE particles and a four channel condensation particle counter (CPC). During the several months' operation in manufacturing line, the system was successfully tested and showed reliable results.

  • Ultra-dense small cell networks (UD-SCNs) have been identified as a promising scheme for next-generation wireless networks capable of meeting the ever-increasing demand for higher transmission rates and better quality of service. However, UD-SCNs will inevitably suffer from severe interference among the small cell base stations, which will lower their spectral efficiency. In this paper, we propose a software-defined networking (SDN)-based hierarchical agglomerative clustering (SDN-HAC) framework, which leverages SDN to centrally control all sub-channels in the network, and decides on cluster merging using a similarity criterion based on a suitability function. We evaluate the proposed algorithm through simulation. The obtained results show that the proposed algorithm performs well and improves system payoff by 18.19% and 436.34% when compared with the traditional network architecture algorithms and non-cooperative scenarios, respectively.

  • New 80-MW (electric) ultra-long-life sodium cooled fast reactor core having inherent safety characteristics is designed with heterogeneous fuel assemblies comprised of driver and blanket fuel rods. Several options using upper sodium plenum and SSFZ (Special Sodium Flowing Zone) for reducing sodium void reactivity are neutronically analyzed in this core concept in order to improve the inherent safety of the core. The SSFZ allowing the coolant flow from the peripheral fuel assemblies increases the neutron leakage under coolant expansion or voiding. The Monte Carlo calculations were used to design the cores and analyze their physics characteristics with heterogeneous models. The results of the design and analyses show that the final core design option has a small burnup reactivity swing of 618 pcm over ~54 EFPYs cycle length and a very small sodium void worth of ~35pcm at EOC (End of Cycle), which leads to the satisfaction of all the conditions for inherent safety with large margin based on the quasi-static reactivity balance analysis under ATWS (Anticipated Transient Without Scram).

  • This paper presents a method by which multiple holes of ultra small size can be punched simultaneously. Silicon wafers were used to fabricate punching die. Workpiece used in the present investigation were the rolled pure copper of $3{\mu}m$ in thickness and CP titanium of $1.5{\mu}m$ in thickness. The metal foils were punched with the dies and arrays of circular and rectangular holes were made. The diameter of holes ranges from $2-10{\mu}m$. The process set-up is similar to that of the flexible rubber pad forming or Guerin process. Arrays of holes were punched successfully in one step forming. The punched holes were examined in terms of their dimensions, surface qualities, and potential defect. The effects of the die hole dimension on ultra small size hole formation of the thin foil were discussed. • The lifespan and fecundity of three types(ultra small, small and large) rotifer, Brachionus plicatilis, were investigated. Generally, the lifespan and fecundity of three types rotifer were better at $25{\sim}27^{\circ}C$ than at $20{\sim}22^{\circ}C$, and this phenomenon was more distinct in the ultra small and the small type rotifers. With regard to salinity, while the ultra small and the large type rotifer prefer.ed low salinity(16ppt) to high salinity(32ppt), fecundity of the small type rotifer was higher at high salinity(32ppt) than at low salinity(16ppt). Suitable food organisms were Tetraselmis tetrathele and Chlorella ellipsoidea for the three types rotifer. Tetraselmis tetrathele was more adequate for the ultra small and large type rotifer as live food. However, Chlorella ellipsoidea showed better dietary value for the small type rotifer.

  • Deploying small cells is a reliable and influential solution to handle the skyrocketing traffic increase in the cellular network, and the small cell technology is evolving to ultra-dense network (UDN). In this paper we propose a small cell on/off algorithm with a simple but essential framework composed of access point (AP), user equipment (UE), and small cell controller (SCC). We propose Device-Assisted Networking for Cellular grEening (DANCE) algorithms that save the energy consumption by tying to minimize the number of turned-on APs while maintaining the network throughput. In doing so, SCC firstly gathers the feedback messages from UEs and then makes a decision including a set of turned-on APs and user association. DANCE algorithm has several variations depending on the number of bits of the UE's feedback message (1 bit vs. N bit), and is divided into AP-first, UE-first, or Proximity ON according to the criteria of selecting the turned-on APs. We perform extensive simulations under the realistic UDN environment, and the results confirm that the proposed algorithms, compared to the baseline, can significantly enhance the energy efficiency, e.g., more than a factor of 10.
