Semiconductor photo-catalysis offers the potential for complete removal of toxic chemicals through its effective and broad potential applications. Various new compounds and materials for chemical catalysts were synthesized in the past few decades. As one of the most important II-VI group semiconductors, zinc sulfide (ZnS) with a wide direct band gap of 3.8 eV has been extensively investigated and used as a catalyst in photochemistry, environmental protection and in optoelectronic devices. In this work, the ZnS films and nanostructures have been successfully prepared by wet chemical method. We show that the agglomerates with four successive scales are always observed in the case of the homogeneous precipitation of zinc sulfide. Hydrodynamics plays a crucial role to determine the size of the largest agglomerates; however, other factors should be invoked to interpret the complete structure. In addition, studies of the photocatalytic properties by exposure to UV light irradiation demonstrated that ZnS nanocrystals (NCs) are good photo-catalysts as a result of the rapid generation of electron-hole pairs by photo-excitation and the highly negative reduction potentials of excited electrons. A combination of their unique features of high surface-to volume ratios, carrier dynamics and rich photo-catalytic suggests that these ZnS NCs will find many interesting applications in semiconductor photo-catalysis, solar cells, environmental remediation, and nano-devices.
The purpose of this study is to develop house caddie uniforms design which reflects the CI and image of 'Golfzon County Sunwoon', a representative golf course in the Honam circle, to enhance a positive image of a golf course and improve house caddies' service quality and their working efficiency. Study methods were as follows. In literature review, the domestic golf industry, golf culture, and house caddie uniforms as one of golf course CI elements were investigated. In empirical study, the formativeness of domestic golf course CI and house caddie uniforms was analyzed. Then, house caddie uniforms were developed using CI which is the symbolic element of a golf course. A concept for uniforms design development was 'Golf & Culture Communication' to symbolically represent an image of IT-based total golf culture club. It was limited to female uniforms design for spring or autumn that is high in application. A symbol and a logo which are symbolic elements of a golf course were freely worn in the form of a brooch. Symbolism and practicality were reinforced using PB(v), R(v), YR(v), and Y(vp) colors only for a golf course. Functionality was improved by using UV protection materials and aesthetics was expressed by reflecting 2014-15 F/W trends.
This study explored Jeju natural resources with healing function and tried mixed dyeing of Ecklonia cava and onion shell to improve dyeing. The results showed that silk dyed with a mixture of Ecklonia cava powder and onion shells rather than Jeju's individually dyed silk had better color power to develop fashion products. In addition, all friction lightning bolts, dry cleaning and sweat mining levels were excellent as well as excellent UV protection rates. The three baenaet jeogori worn during a birth anniversary and four rest suits that infants and children can wear comfortably maintained the dyeing and functioning of Ecklonia cava and onion shell mixture that was proven through abnormal experiments. For the three baenaet jeogori and two rest suits, the company has developed a fashion product recognized for high value-added merchandise using a variegation dyeing method made in a handmade style for expressing a person's natural sensibility through dyeing fabrics. Based on the results of the above research, it is expected that various fashion product developments will be possible by dyeing a mixture of functional and colorful extracts of the drug and colorful dye.
In this study, the properties such as color, dye uptake and antibacterial function were examined through the application of combination dyeing and mixed dyeing with extracts from Humulus japonicus(hwansam) and the pruned branches of Prunus persica(peach) tree. In terms of dye uptake and surface color changes subject to the kind of mordants, methods and mixing ratio of dye, it was found that fabrics dyed by the pre-mordanting method with $CuSO_4$ showed the red green yellow group colors, which were not seen in fabrics dyed with hwansam only. Color fastness was found strong at grade 4-5 with 96.3% of UV protection ratio. While the fastness to light was as fair as grade 3, it showed an excellent result of 99.9% bacteria reduction rate against Staphylococcus aureus with fair 58% deodorization rate and 21.2% antibacterial rate against Klebsiella pneumoniae. As stated above, the combination and mixed dyeing resulted in the meaningful outcomes with regard to color variations, dye uptake, color fastness and functional properties.
Adsorption of an oil-proof agent (OPA)onto cellulose fibers during the papermaking process was investigated using UV-Vis spectrophotometry by measuring the OPA concentration decrease in the solution. From the calibration curve, the spectrum were converted to chemical concentrations in solution, from which the amount adsorbed onto the fiber surface could be determined. Thus, it was possible to determine the total amount adsorbed onto the fibers and in solution. Using this approach, we studied the adsorption behavior of the OPA onto the fiber surface and derived its, ${\Gamma}^s_t={\Gamma}^s_{\infty}(1-e^{-k_{\alpha}t})$. The values of the parameters kaand ${\Gamma}^s_{\infty}$ were determined using a mathematic model based on a mass transfer equation. Ultimately, a complete was derived: $Q={\alpha}{\cdot}\sum\limits_{i-1}^m{\pi}d_il_i{\cdot}M_A{\cdot}(1-e^{-k_{\alpha}t})/A_N$.
The crude extract of the mycelium of Cladosporium was found to exhibit antimicrobial activity against the Staphylococcus aureus, methicillin-resistant S. aureus, and multidrug-resistant S. aureus. Bioassayguided fractionation of an organic extract led to the isolation of an acetophenone derivative, clavatol (2',4'-dihydroxy-3',5'-dimethylacetophenone) (1), and a benzodiazepine alkaloid, circumdatin A (2). Compound 1 showed moderate antibacterial activity against S. aureus, methicillin-resistant S. aureus, and multidrug-resistant S. aureus with minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) values of 62.5, 62.5, 31.0 $\mu$g/mL, respectively, but compound 2 was inactive. Compounds 1 and 2 exhibited UV-A protection activity with ED$_{50}$ values of 227.0 and 82.0 $\mu$M, respectively, indicating that they were more potent than the positive control, oxybenzone (ED$_{50}$ 350 $\mu$M), a common sunscreen agent.
This study is fundamental research on how to be able to scientifically quantify and reproduce a natural dyeing procedure. By dyeing silk fabrics, the establishment of a reproducible dyeing method was sought. Juglans mandshurica has been known as one of the most widely used black vegetable dyes. Repetition conditions and combination dyeing were performed with Juglans mandshurica cortex, gallnut, clove, and Eclipta prostrata L. extracts to express a deep black color. Juglans mandshurica cortex, gallnut, clove, and Eclipta prostrata L. extracts were suitable for black coloration and showed a darker black color when combined with iron mordant. Specifically, Juglans mandshurica cortex and clove can be used for deep black coloring. Color fastness when washed or dry cleaned was found to be strong with a grade of 4-5 and fastness to light was rated at a 3-4. The grade of color change when exposed to rubbing and perspiration was good at a 4-5. In regards to functional property aspects, it showed excellent results with a 99% deodorization rate at 120 minutes of dyeing time, 97.1% UV protection rate, and 85.9% and 62.3% bacterial reduction against Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pneumoniae, respectively. Therefore, it is considered that the extract from the Juglans mandshurica cortex is of great value as an eco-friendly, natural dyestuff.
This study was undertaken to determine free radical scavenging capacity and oxidative DNA damage protecting activity of methanol extract of red tea stem. The extract was subjected to assess their antioxidant potential using various in vitro systems such as $DPPH^{\bullet}$, $ABTS^{{\bullet}+}$, super oxide and nitric oxide free radicals and it exhibited $IC_{50}$ values of $68.88{\pm}1.1$, $12.08{\pm}0.65$, $404.38{\pm}1.6$, $93.6{\pm}2.7{\mu}g/mL$ respectively. Red tea extract also showed ferric reducing ability (FRAP) with 2606.85 mmol Fe (II)/g of extract. Furthermore, Methanol extract of red tea stem showed significant DNA damage protecting activity in concentration dependent manner against $H_2O_2+UV$ induced photolysis on pUC19 plasmid DNA. Results of this study showed that the methanol extract of Red Tea stem has strong antioxidant potential along oxidative DNA damage protecting capacity that would be the significant sources of natural antioxidants, which might be helpful in preventing the progress of various oxidative stress generated diseases. Further study is necessary for isolation and characterization of the active antioxidants, which may serve as a potential source of natural antioxidant.
Coating of individual cells with organic or inorganic materials has drawn a great deal of attention, because it provides the cells with physicochemical durability, which would contribute to the development of bioreactors, biosensor, and lab-on-a-chip, as well as to the fundamental studies in single cell-based biology. Although many strategies have been developed for coating of microbial cells, limited methods are available to coat mammalian cells because most mammalian cells do not have a robust membrane or exoskeleton. Instead, they are enclosed in a lipid bilayer, which is fluidic and vulnerable to changes in its environments. It is more difficult to treat mammalian cells in vitro than microbial cells because the surfaces of mammalian cells are not protected or reinforced by a tough coat. In this work, we report a cytocompatible and degradable nanocoat for mammalian cells. Three types of mammalian cells (HeLa cells, NIH 3T3 fibroblasts, and Jurkat T cells) were individually coated within metal-polyphenol. To maintain the viability of the mammalian cells, we performed the whole processes under strictly physiological culture conditions, and carefully selected nontoxic materials.
