Endophytes ascertain a symbiotic relationship with plants as promoters of growth, defense mechanism etc. This study is a first report to screen the endophytic population in Waltheria indica, a tropical medicinal plant. 5 bacterial and 3 fungal strains in leaves, 3 bacterial and 1 yeast species in stems were differentiated morphologically and identified by biochemical and molecular methods. The phylogenetic tree of the isolated endophytes was constructed using MEGA X. Silver nanoparticles were biosynthesized from a rare endophytic bacterium Cupriavidus metallidurans isolated from the leaf of W. indica. The formation of silver nanoparticles was confirmed by UV-Visible spectrophotometer that evidenced a strong absorption band at 408.5 nm of UV-Visible range with crystalline nature and average particle size of 16.4 nm by Particle size analyzer. The Fourier Transform Infra-Red spectrum displayed the presence of various functional groups that stabilized the nanoparticles. X-ray diffraction peaks were conferred to face centered cubic structure. Transmission Electron Microscope and Scanning Electron Microscope revealed the spherical-shaped, polycrystalline nature with the presence of elemental silver analyzed by Energy Dispersive of X-Ray spectrum. Selected area electron diffraction also confirmed the orientation of AgNPs at 111, 200, 220, 311 planes similar to X-ray diffraction analysis. The synthesized nanoparticles are evaluated for antimicrobial activity against 7 bacterial and 3 fungal pathogens. A good zone of inhibition was observed against pathogenic bacteria than fungal pathogens. Thus the study could hold a key aspect in drug discovery research and other pharmacological conducts of human clinical conditions.

In this study, the resistance characteristics of semi-insulating SiC single crystals grown using the PVT method were investigated, considering the purity level of SiC source powders used in PVT growth and the cooling procedure after crystal growth. Two β-SiC powders with different purities were employed, and the cooling rate after growth was adjusted to achieve various resistance values. 4-inch HPSI-SiC ingots were grown using the PVT method, utilizing SiC powders with low nitrogen concentration and relatively high nitrogen concentration. These ingots were then subjected to different cooling procedures to modify the cooling rate. Transmission/absorption spectra and crystal quality of the grown crystals were analyzed through UV/VIs/NIR spectroscopy and X-ray rocking curve analysis, respectively. Additionally, electrical properties were investigated through non-contact resistivity analysis to identify the dominant factors influencing resistivity properties.
For the first time Pb, Ni, and Cu nanocomposites were synthesized by versatile solution combustion synthesis using Aloevera extract as a reducing agent, to study the potential applications in X-ray/gamma, neutron, and Bremsstrahlung shielding. The synthesized Lead-Nickel-Copper (LNC) nanocomposites were characterized by PXRD, SEM, UV-VIS, and FTIR for the confirmation of successful synthesis. PXRD analysis confirmed the formation of multiphase LNC NCs and the Scherrer equation and the W-H plot gave the average crystal sizes of 19 nm and 17 nm. Surface morphology using SEM and EDX confirmed the presence of LNC NCs. Strong absorption peaks were analyzed by UV visible spectroscopy and the direct energy gap is found to be 3.083 eV. Functional groups present in the LNC NCs were analyzed by FTIR spectroscopy. X-ray/gamma radiation shielding properties were measured using NaI(Tl) detector coupled with MCA. It is found to be very close to Pb. Neutron shielding parameters were compared with traditional shielding materials and found LNC NCs are better than lead and concrete. Secondary radiation shielding known as Bremsstrahlung shielding characteristics also studied and found that LNC NCs are best in secondary radiation shielding. Hence LNC NCs find shielding applications in ionizing radiation such as X-ray/gamma and neutron radiation.
These experiments were carried out to determine the ultraviolet absorption spectra of AcBr lignins(acetyl bromide lignin) from 10 hardwood species grown in Mt. Jiri. 1. There were 3 peak positions, at 249nm(max. peak), at 262-266nm(shallow min. peak) and at 270-280nm(lower max. peak). The Bj$\ddot{o}$rkman lignin and lignin sulfonatic acid spectra had shoulders, but the AcBr lignin didn't. 2. Average absorbances of the AcBr lignin at peak positions were 0.457${\pm}$0.0077 at 249nm, 0.297${\pm}$0.0029 at 262-266nm and 0.309${\pm}$0.0067 at 270-280nm. 3. Average absorptivities of the AcBr lignin at peak positions were 25.005${\pm}$0.3825 at 249nm, 16.264${\pm}$0.2347 at 262-266nm and 16.863${\pm}$0.3444 at 270-280nm. 4. AcBr lignin absorptivities in each species were as follows: 16.939${\pm}$0.3735 in Acer pseudo-sieboldianum var. koreanum, 17.411${\pm}$0.2937 in Carpinus laxiflora, 16.579${\pm}$0.4348 in Comus controversa, 16.385${\pm}$0.4140 in Fraxinus rhynchophylla, 16.287${\pm}$0.4156 in Meliosma myriantha, 16.492${\pm}$0.1432 in Platycarya strobilacea, 16.343${\pm}$0.3177 in Prunus sargentii, 17.549${\pm}$0.3253 in Sophora japanica, 18.400${\pm}$0.2925 in Stewartia koreana, 16.245${\pm}$0.4339 in Styrax obassia. 5. As the spectra of AcBr lignin from hardwood showed the unpromounced peak from 270nm to 280nm, it was supposed that thes hardwood lignins were the guaiacyl-syringyl copolymers.

We report the electro-optical properties of the sensory rhodopsin II using a near-field scanning microwave microscope(NSMM). Rhodopsin was known as a photoreceptor pigment with a retinal as a chromophore via a protonated Schiff base and consists of seven ${\alpha}-helical$ transmembrane segments. The sensory rhodopsin II, expressing E. coli UT5600 with endogenous retinal biosynthesis system and purified with $Ni^{-2}-NTA$ affinity chromatography in the presence of 0.02 % DM (Dodecyl Maltoside) from Natronomonas pharaonis. We measured the absorption spectra and the transients difference of sensory rhodopsin II from Natronomonas pharaonis using a UV/VIS spectrophotometer with Nd-Yag Laser (532 nm). The absorption spectra of NpSR II showed a typical rhodopsin spectrum with a left shoulder region and the photointermediates spectra of NpSR II-ground state (${\lambda}max=498\;nm$), NpSR II-M state (${\lambda}max=390\;nm$), and NpSR II-O state (${\lambda}max=550\;nm$) during the photocycle. The observed photocycle reaction was confirmed by measuring the microwave reflection coefficient $S_{11}$ at an operating frequency of f=3.93-3.95 GHz and compared with the results of a photocycle of NpSR II.
Generally, the strength achieved of glass-ceramics is higher as is the fracture toughness, as compared with the original glass. This improvement is due to the microstructure consisting of very small crystals. In this study, Ag-doped $45SiO_2-24CaO-24Na_2O-4P_2O_5$ glasses were irradiated to strengthen by the crystallization using Femto second laser Pulses. Through the UV/VIS spectroscope, XRD, Nano-indenter and SEM etc., heat-treated and irradiation of laser pulses without heat-treated samples were analyzed. Two kinds of samples, heat-treated and laser irradiated without heat-treated samples, showed the peaks in the same wavelength near 360 nm. Especially, samples irradiated by 140 mW laser with XYZ stage having at the rate of 100$\~$l000 $\mu$m/s had the largest absorption peak among them, and heat-treated samples was shown lower absorption range than over 90 mW laser irradiated samples. Moreover, samples irradiated by laser had higher values ($4.4\~4.56{\times}10^{-3}(Pa)$) of elastic modulus which related with strength of glass than values of heat-treated samples and these are 1.2$\~$1 .5 times higher values than them of mother glass.
To improve photocatalytic performance, CdS nanoparticle deposited TiO2 nanotubular photocatalysts are synthesized. The TiO2 nanotube is fabricated by electrochemical anodization at a constant voltage of 60 V, and annealed at 500 for crystallization. The CdS nanoparticles on TiO2 nanotubes are synthesized by successive ionic layer adsorption and reaction method. The surface characteristics and photocurrent responses of TNT/CdS photocatalysts are investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), UV-Vis spectrometer and LED light source installed potentiostat. The bandgaps of the CdS deposited TiO2 photocatalysts are gradually narrowed with increasing of amounts of deposited CdS nanoparticles, which enhances visible light absorption ability of composite photocatalysts. Enhanced photoelectrochemical performance is observed in the nanocomposite TiO2 photocatalyst. However, the maximum photocurrent response and dye degradation efficiency are observed for TNT/CdS30 photocatalyst. The excellent photocatalytic performance of TNT/CdS30 catalyst can be ascribed to the synergistic effects of its better absorption ability of visible light region and efficient charge transport process.
A series of poly(1,4-phenylenevinylene-alt-3-alkyl-2,5-thienylenevinylene)s (alkyl = hexyl [PPV-alt-6-TV] and octyl (PPV-alt-8-TV] group) have been synthesized by the Heck coupling reaction. These polymers were characterized using $^1$H-NMR, FT-IR spectroscopy, and thermogravimetric analysis (TCA). They are solvent processible and have obviously copolymeric structure. The photophysical properties of the polymers were investigated using UV-visible and steady-state photoluminescence(PL) spectroscopy. We studied the change of light-emitting properties by incorporating the thiophene group into the PPV polymer backbone using alternating copolymer system. The properties of two synthesized polymers are very similar, but they exhibited apparent changes of light-emitting properties compared with other PPV backbone based polymers. The broad absorption bands from 350 to 570 nm are due to $\pi$-$\pi$* transitions of the polyconjugated systems. The absorption maxima of the two polymers were found at about 452 and 448 nm for PPV-alt-6-TV and PPV-alt-8-TV, respectively. The copolymers showed broad PL spectra between 550 and 700 nm without vibronic bands and PL emission maxima of PPV-alt-6-TV and PPV-alt-8-TV are about 620 and 605 nm, respectively. The copolymers exhibited the red emission (PPValt-6-TV), but more red shifted emissions are needed to obtain real red color.
UV spectrophotometric investigation has been carried out on the system of charge-transfer (CT) complex with iodine and tetramethyltin in carbon tetrachloride solvent. The transient CT absorption spectrum can be observed in ${\lambda}_{max}=270nm$ and the subsequent disappearance of CT absorption spectrum was accompained by the cleavage of tetramethyltin with iodine (iododestannylation). From there, the rate constants for the iododestannylation were determined at 10, 20 and $35^{\circ}C$ up to 1200 bar and the reaction rates were increased with increasing temperature and pressure. From these rate constants, the values of the activation parameters (${\Delta}V^{\neq},\;{\Delta}{\beta}^{\neq},\;{\Delta}H^{\neq}\;and\;{\Delta}S^{\neq}$) were obtained and from these values discussed in terms of solvent structure variation of transition state and mechanism. From these results, it was found that the reaction is followed with $S_F2$ mechanism and weakened $S_F2$ mechanism nature by increasing pressure.
We present the Yonsei Evolutionary Population Synthesis (YEPS) models for spectroscopic and photometric evolutions of simple and composite stellar populations. The models are based on the most up-to-date Yonsei-Yale stellar evolutionary tracks and BaSel 3.1 flux libraries, and provide integrated spectroscopic quantities of Lick/IDS system including high-order Balmer absorption-lines. Special care has been taken to incorporate the systematic variation of horizontal branch (HB) morphology as functions of metallicity, age, alpha-element mixture, and helium abundance of simple stellar populations. Our models for normal-helium stellar populations indicate that the realistic modeling of HB and alpha-element brings about 5 Gyr and 0.1 dex differences in age and metallicity estimations, respectively, compared to those without these effects. The HB effect does not depend on the specific choice of stellar libraries and alpha-element enhancements, and this effect is non-negligible even in the metal sensitive absorption indices, such as Mg2 and Mg b. Comparison of the models to observations reveals that the HB and alpha-element effects are critical in understanding otherwise inexplicable phenomena found in globular cluster systems in the Milky Way and nearby galaxies, including the observed bimodality of the line strengths of globular clusters in massive galaxies. In addition, we found that helium-enhanced stellar populations, which are the major sources of extreme HB stars, bring about increased FUV, NUV fluxes, and thus the model colors of those filters become extremely blue. Age dating based on the YEPS model with normal-helium stellar populations reveals that the evidence for 'downsizing' of elliptical galaxies is found not only in the local field but also in Coma cluster, and that the mean age of elliptical galaxies in Coma cluster is about 1.4 Gyr younger than the mean age of those in the local field. We also find that our models with helium-enhanced subpopulations can naturally reproduce the strong UV-upturns observed in giant elliptical galaxies assuming an age similar to that of old GCs in the Milky Way.
