  • This study first designates the factors affecting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in order to analyze the FDI in Korea, and calculates the Korean FDI index by using various designated variables and by applying Factor Analysis Technique. In addition, it attempts to understand the influence wielded by the foreign investment variables of foreign multinationals on FDI in Korea, by setting to analyze & verify Environmental Factors and the overall model based on FDI in Korea. Through an emprical analysis of USA, Japan, EU, China, as our hypothesis, we could verify that the positive effects(+) among the decisive factors of FDI in Korea include the market size, the mean earning rate of domestic manufacturing industries, and the marketing capacities of foreign corporations, while the negative effects(-) include the ratio of taxation on domestic manufacturing industries. Other FDI factors have various effects on each, so some factors show the same effects as the hypothesis while others show separate effects. In addition, the only nation for which the effects of FDI factors in Korea coincide with the hypothesis completely is the USA, while other nations (such as Japan, EU, China) have some effects that conform to the hypothesis, but other effects do not accord with it.

  • To survey the possibility of replacing the pyrogen test with Limulus Amebocyte Lysate(LAL) test and to find out a standard methods suitable to our blood products made in Korea, 100 samples of 20% human serum albumin were tested by commercial LAL test kits and results of those were compared with rabbit pyrogen test. The LAL test is used both dinetic-chromogenically and kinetic-turbidimetrically. Both methods equally showed broad detection range (5.0~0.005 EU/ml), excellent sensitivity ($\geq$ 0.005 EU/ml) and predominant recovery rate within valid dilution range, but kinetic-turbidimetric method seemed to be more reproducible than kinetic-chromogenic method(kinetic-chromogenic method : S.D. = 15.88, kinetic-turbidimetric method : S.D. = 8.12). After heating the sample at 75$^{\circ}C$ for 15 min, the results showed a little elevated recovery rate with both methods. After performing the test on 100 albumin samples with both kits, the results were analysed using the USP standard (1.33 EU/ml). 7% of samples in kinetic-chromogenic methods and 1% of samples in kinetic-turbidimetric method exceeded the limit of endotoxin levels regulated for blood products in USA. Because this phenomenon was not observed in both methods at the same time and both methods have high sensitivity ($\geq$0.005 EU/ml), these results seemed to depend on nonspecific reaction. Considering its sensitivity and reproducibility, we could assure that LAL test is proper to detecting pyrogenic with good sensitivity.

  • This paper discusses the European Union's smart specialization strategy and US manufacturing renaissance policy and then proposes new directions for regional industrial policy in Korea. The smart specialization strategy is summarized as the entrepreneurial self-discovery and strategic coordination; the manufacturing renaissance policy as the construction of industrial commons based on ecosystem; and Korea's regional industrial policy as the build-up of regional innovation system based upon industrial clusters. The policy cases of the EU and the United States demonstrate the fact that regional industrial policy should be geographically embedded. Also, they show the relevance of policy mix by linking industrial policy with innovation policy for cross-fertilization between different industry and technology. In addition, the state plays a role as a coordinator and mediator by embedding the democratic discipline into industrial ecosystems. Considering these points, regional industrial policy should be transformed into a platform system that can facilitate linkage between industry and technology.

  • There are approximately 250,000 organic livestock farming in the world. The total retail value of organic food sales in the world is $ 27 billion. The organic livestock products such as milk, lamb and beef are marketed mostly in Europe and the USA. The market share of organic food is about 2% in total food marketing value of worldwide and of the organic food marketing value, organic livestock products portioned 17% in the USA. The organic livestock products are primarily marketed at Supermarket(Europe), Health and Natural Food store(USA). Concerning international trade, it is very little. But it is increasing among the developed counties of Europe. In the future, the production of organic livestock products will be rapidly increased in South America, Middle East and Oceania, but the growth rate will be limited due to its expensive price, lack of marketing-infra and different regulation system. Most of developed countries drive organic farming policy strongly as the strategic means of rural development, diversifying agriculture system and environmental improvement.

  • Standard and lead limit test in general test method of Korea, Japan, Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee of Food Additives (JECFA), USA, and EU on synthetic and natural food additives were compared. There were found that the general test methods in 'Korea Food Additives Code' were different from standards of various institutes on lead limit test. For the lead limit test of food additives, Korea used dithizone method, Japan used atomic absorption spectrophotometry, and USA used dithizone method, flame atomic absorption spectrophotometric method, atomic absorption spectrophotometric graphite furnace method, and APDC extraction method. In addition, JECFA and EU used dithizone method and atomic absorption spectrophotometric method. The dithizone methods of Korea, USA, and JECFA were nearly identical. In the case of USA, JECFA, and EU, the analytical methods for lead limit test were shown in individual monograph. Lead limit test against 13 synthetic, such as magnesium stearate and L-cystine, and 12 natural, such as gua gum and diatomaceous earth, food additives distributed in Korea were performed by the analytical method of each institute. Although all institutes use various methods for analysis of lead, contents of lead in food additives tested fell into the standard of each institute.

  • The status of waste generation and recycling in 32 countries in the European Union (EU), Japan, and the United States was investigated and summarized to encourage overseas market expansion for domestic urban mining industries. Among the 32 EU countries, Germany has the highest amount of material consumption and generates the largest quantity of waste. Minerals such as mine and soil wastes constitute the largest type of waste in the EU. With respect to waste treatment techniques, landfill and recycling are applied to 39% and 38% of the waste, respectively, implying the necessity to promote recycling. Japan's total waste generation declined recently to less than 400 million tons. The largest amount of waste is generated by the manufacturing industries. The proportion of total recycled waste is estimated to be slightly over 50%, but the proportions are greater than 90% for metal scrap and 60% for waste plastics. The amount of waste produced in the United States recently exceeded 265 million tons; 52.1% of the waste is landfilled, while only 25.1% is recycled. Therefore, the recycling industry has to be developed further.

  • In this study, the main goal is conduct an empirical research for MNC's(multinational companies) contingency factors and entry modes. Through examining elements of success and limitations of foreign companies in the domestic market, a resulting purpose can be suggested such as developing attractive foreign investment policy. The results in this study are as below. The results from Logistic Regression Analysis there were indications for preference factors for WOS (Wholly Owned Subsidiary). The factors were 'Strategic Motivation', 'Intelligent Property', and 'Market Latent Purchasing Power'. For JV (Joint Venture) there were preferred factors such as 'Degree of Using Product Factors', 'Differential Products Development Ability', and 'Systematic Incentives'. However, this thesis is limited to identifying clear causal relationship between the 'Performance' of foreign investment enterprise which entered WOS or JV and various factors which were suggested in the contingency factors (independent variables).

  • In order to set ADIs for pesticides registered for use in Korea, an analysis of guidelines on setting ADIs and ADIs established by international bodies and advanced countries was conducted General guidelines on the derivation ADIs are very similar among regulatory authorities. However, there were large differences in the ADIs' setting status and ADI values set for some individual pesticides. ADIs were established for 213 pesticides in UN, 332 in USA, 230 in Japan, 219 in UK and 435 in EU and Australia. Of the established ADIs in other countries, 87 to 252 pesticides were the pesticides registered in Korea depending countries. The number of lowest ADIs depending countries was 32 in USA, 23 in Japan, 6 in EU and Australia. The key target organs and endpoints used for setting ADIs were in the order of enzyme inhibition, body weight change and adverse effect on liver. The number of ADIs used for setting MRLs in Korea was high in the order of JMPR, Japan and USA. ADIs of EU and JMPR had highest similarity among bodies investigated. By referring to the guidances investigated at this study, guideline for setting ADI and ADIs for 64 pesticides registered in Korea were proposed.
