A Philological Comparative Study on the Difference of the Chief Virtue of Puryu(KI7) and Um-gok(KI10) (복류(復溜).음곡혈(陰谷穴)의 주치별(主治別) 차이(差異)에 대(對)한 문헌적(文獻的) 비교(比較) 고찰(考察))

  • Objectives: The aim of the present study was to widen a clinical use by investigating literatures about the acupoint of Pu-ryu(KI7) and Um-gok(KI10) concerning Kidney-Eum(vital essence of the kidney) and Kidney-Yang(vital function of the kidney). Methods: We investigated the first literature about $Pu-ryu(KI7)\;{\cdot}\;Um-gok(KI10)$ and a second name, a location and a characteristic of them. We made a comparative study about the chief virtue and combination of $Pu-ryu(KI7)\;{\cdot}\;Um-gok(KI10)$. Results: Pu-ryu(KI7) is the 7th acupoint of Kidney Meridian of Foot Soeum(少陰), which reinforces a meridian of belonging and has the efficacy of warming the Kidney Yang, clearing heat, excreting dump and regulating water passage. Um-gok(KI10) is the 10th acupoint of Kidney Meridian of Foot Soeum(少陰), which has the virtue of nurishing the Liver and Kidney Eum, promoting lower heater and marinating the free flow of Gi Conclusions: The chief virtue of Pu-ryu(KI7) is to remove edema due to disturbance in Gi activity by dificiency of Kidney-Yang because of warming Yang to induce diuresis. To Um-gok(KI10), it is to treat instability of Kidney-Gi by Eum dificiency of the Liver and Kidney because of nurishing the Liver and Kidney Eum.

Effects of Woo-Gui-Um on A${\beta}$ Toxicity and Memory Dysfunction in Mice

  • Objectives : Alzheimer's disease (AD) is characterized by neuronal loss and extracellular senile plaque. Moreover, the cellular actions of ${\beta}$-amyloid (A${\beta}$ play a causative role in the pathogenesis of AD. This study was designed to determine whether Woo-Gui-Um, a commonly used Korean herbal medicine, has the ability to protect cortical and hippocampal neurons against A${\beta}_{25-35}$ neurotoxicity Methods : In the present study, the authors investigated the preventative effects of the water extract of Woo-Gui-Um in a mouse model of AD. Memory impairment was induced by intraventricularly (i.c.v.) injecting A${\beta}_{25-35}$ peptides into mice. Woo-Gui-Um extract was then administered orally (p.o.) for 14 days. In addition, A${\beta}_{25-35}$ toxicity on the hippocampus was assessed immunohistochemically, by staining for Tau, MAP2, TUNEL, and Bax, and by performing an in vitro study in PC12 cells. Results : Woo-Gui-Um extract had an effect to improve learning ability and memory score in the water maze task. Woo-Gui-Um extract had significant neuroprotective effects in vivo against oxidative damage and apoptotic cell death of hippocampal neurons caused by i.c.v. A${\beta}_{25-35}$. In addition, Woo-Gui-Um extract was found to have a protective effect on A${\beta}_{25-35}$-induced apoptosis, and to promote neurite outgrowth of nerve growth factor (NGF)-differentiated PC12 cells. Conclusions : These results suggest that Woo-Gui-Um extract reduces memory impairment and Alzheimer's dementia via an anti-apoptotic effect and by regulating Tau and MAP2 in the hippocampus.

Concept Analysis of Tae-um in Nurses (간호사의 태움 개념분석)

  • This study was conducted to identify the conceptual definition and attributes of nurses' Tae-um based on the conceptual analysis method of Walker and Avant. The attributes of nurses' Tae-um were derived from the organizational culture, inexperienced new nurses that are victims, senior nurses that are perpetrators, alteration of teaching, verbal and physical violence experiences, and psychological and physical symptoms. The antecedents were due to excessive work, high work intensity, job stress, lack of workforce, poor working environment, lack of job ability of new nurses, organizational hierarchy, and power imbalance. Moreover, the consequences were physical and psychological symptoms, decreased efficiency, increased distrust, increased turnover intention, and decreased quality of patient care. Improvements of working conditions and social supports for expanding nursing staff and building a culture in which communication and mutual cooperation are used to solve the antecedents of Tae-um among nurses is necessary. This study suggests the need for more qualitative research on Tae-um in nurses, the development of tools that reflect the attributes of Tae-um in nurses, and the development of a program to improve the culture of Tae-um in nurses. This study is significant in that it provides a rationale for development of an adaptation program for new nurses by suggesting the antecedents of Tae-um and solutions for it.

The Properties of Durability and Strength of Fiber-Reinforced Polymer-Modified Mortars Using Eco-Friendly UM Resin (친환경 UM수지를 사용한 섬유보강 폴리머 시멘트 모르타르의 내구성 및 강도 특성)

  • In this study, performance of fiber-reinforced polymer-modified mortar was studied for the development of eco-friendly materials for high performance repair and reinforcement. The general cement mortar and eco-friendly UM resin was mixed with a certain percentage for increased durability. To increase the strength of the polymer-modified mortar, PVA fiber, steel fiber and hybrid fiber were added at a constant rate. Hybrid fiber is contains the same percentage of PVA fiber and steel fiber. In order to determine the strength properties of fiber-reinforced polymer-modified mortar, the compressive strength test, the splitting tensile strength test and the flexural strength test were performed. And, in order to determine the durability properties of fiber-reinforced polymer-modified mortar, water absorption test and chemical resistance test were performed. From the experimental results, polymer-modified mortar using UM resin was improved durability. And the tensile strength and flexural strength increased, which were the vulnerability of fiber reinforced polymer-modified mortar. From this study, fiber-reinforced polymer-modified mortar using eco-friendly UM resin can be used to repair and reinforcement for the external exposure of concrete structures to improve the durability.

Relative Significance of nanoplankton in Chonsu Bay: Species Composition, Abundance, Chlorophyll and Primary Productivity (천수만 미세플랑크톤의 상대적 중요성 : 종조성, 개체수, 클로로필 및 일차생산력)

  • In order to study on the relative significance of nanoplankton in Chonsu Bay, nanoplankton samples were collected and analyzed monthly from September, 1985 to August, 1986. A total of 33 taxa representing 6 phyla, 8 classes, 13 orders, 17 families, 25 genera, 33 species have been identified. Micromonas pusilla, Pedinomonas mikron, Pyramimonas grosii, Chroomonas lateralis, Pyrenomonas salina (=Chromonas salina), chroomonas sp., Cyclotella sp., Gonyaulax sp., unidentified sphericl monads (2-5um and 6-8um in size), and unidentified naviculiod form were common species. the distribution of nanoplankton standing crops showed a great temporal and spartial variations. Nanoplankton standing crops was highest in October, 1985 and lowest in September, 1985. The abundance of nanoplankton in Chonsu Bay may be within the range of that of most coastal areas. Unidentified spherical monada (2-5um and 6-8um in size) were most dominant. Chlorophyll-a concentrations of nanoplankton ranged from 0.81 to 4.78ug/l and daily primary productivity by nanoplankton, 16.4 to 767.2 mgC/m$^2$/day. Nanofraction of total phytoplankton cell number accounted for 38% to 93% (average 6%), chlorophyll-a and primary productivity of nanoplankton 25 to 87% (average 64%) and 9 to 87% (average 53%), respectively. The results implied that nanoplankton could be a considerable contribution to phytoplankton biomass and primary productivity in Chonsu Bay phytoplankton community.

  • This paper describes design and implementation of a spread spectrum clock generator(SSCG). The proposed architecture generates the spread spectrum clock controlling a input voltage signal for VCDL(Voltage Controlled Delay Line). Spread charge pump is controlled by the SSC modulation logic block provides a control signal to VCDL through LPF in DLL. By using this architecture, chip area and power consumption can be reduced because it is not necessary additional circuit to control modulation rate. This circuit has been designed and fabricated using the UMC 0.25um CMOS technology. The chip occupies an area of 290${\times}$120um^2.

  • As an attempt to improve fog predictability at Incheon International Airport (IIA) we couple the 3D weather forecasting model currently operational in Korea Meteorological Administration (regional Unified Model, UM_RE) with a 1D turbulence model (PAFOG). The coupling is done by extracting the meteorological data from the 3D model and properly inserting them in the PAFOG model as initial conditions and external forcing. The initial conditions include surface temperature, 2 m temperature and dew point temperature, geostrophic wind at 850 hPa and vertical profiles of temperature and dew point temperature. Moisture and temperature advections are included as external forcing and updated every hr. To validate the performance of the coupled system, simulation results of the coupled system are compared to those of the 3D model alone for the 22 sea fog cases observed over the Yellow Sea. Three statistical indices, i.e., Root Mean Square Error (RMSE), linear correlation coefficient (R) and Critical Success Index (CSI), are examined, and they all indicate that the coupled system performs better than the 3D model alone. These are certainly promising results but more improvement is required before the coupled system can actually be used as an operational fog forecasting model. For the RMSE, R, and CSI values for the coupled system are still not good enough for operational fog forecast.

The Elementary Study of Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory(MMPI) (다면적(多面的) 인성검사(人性檢査)(MMPT)에 관(關)한 초보적(初步的) 연구(硏究))

  • Objectives: In order to investigate personality of oriental medical students by MMPI elementarily. Methods: This study was done by comparing the score of MMPI and Sasang questionnaire. The scores of MMPI and Sasang were verified by examination of T-test and Tukey's HSD Procedure. Results: 1. According to comparison between male and female, there is no meaning. But between unmarried group and married group, there is a difference of MMPI T-scores for L, K-scale significantly. 2. In the distinction of sex and marriage between A group and B group, the MMPI T-scores of male and unmarried group have more significance on the various scale. 3. According to comparative anaylsis of MMPI and Sasang questionnaire, Um group(Tae-um, So-um group) showed significant results in D(Depression), PT(Psychasthenia), SI(Social Introversion) scales of the MMPI. 4. In comparison between the temperament of Sasang and analysis of MMPI profile, Tae-um and So-um groups showed many similarities. Conclusion: According to the above results, it is considered that MMPI can be applied to classification of constitution.

Fabrication of metal structure using AI sacrificial layer (알루미늄 희생층을 이용한 금속 구조물의 제작)

  • In this paper, novel release technique using wet etch is proposed. The results of this technique and the results of SAMs (Self-Assembled monolayers) coated after release using this technique are compared. Fabricated structure have 100 um in width and experimental length is from 100 um to 1 mm. Thickness of aluminum sacrificial layer is 2 um and structure thickness is 2.5 um. Cantilevers and bridges are fabricated with electroplated gold and silicon nitride deposited on substrate. An aluminium sacrificial layer was evaporated thermally and removed in various wet etching solutions. Detachment length of cantilever is 200 um and detachment length of bridge is 1 mm after isooctane rinsing. And the SAMs coating condition which is appropriate for gold and nitride are studied respectively.
