  • Let $A_1,\;A_2,\;\ldots,\;A_m$ and $B_1,\;B_2,\;\ldots,\;B_n$ be two sequences of events on the same probability space. Let $X=X_m(A)\;and\;Y=Y_n(B)$, respectively, denote the numbers of those $A_i's\;and\;B_j's$ which occur. We establish new bivariate Bonferroni-type inequalities using consecutive events and deduce a known result.

  • Human CD99 is a ubiquitous 32-kDa transmembrane protein encoded by the mic2 gene. The major cellular functions of CD99 protein are related to homotypic cell adhension, apoptosis, vesicular protein transport, and differentiation of thymocytes or T cells. Recently it has been reported that expression of a splice variant of CD99 transmembrane protein (Type I and Type II) increases invasive ability of human breast cancer cells. To understand structural basis for cellular functions of CD99 (Type I), we have initiated studies on hCD99$^{TMcytoI}$ and hCD99$^{cytoI}$ using circular dichroism (CD) and multi-dimensional NMR spectroscopy. CD spectrum of hCD99$^{TMcytoI}$ in the presence of 200mM DPC and CHAPS displayed an existence $\alpha$-helical conformation. The solution structure of hCD99$^{cytoI}$ determined by NMR is composed of one N-terminal $\alpha$-helix, $\alpha$A, two C-terminal short $\alpha$-helix segments, $\alpha$B and $\alpha$C. While $\alpha$A and $\alpha$B are connected by the long flexible loop, $\alpha$B and $\alpha$C connected by type III$\beta$-turn. Although it has been rarely figured out the correlation between structure and functional mechanism of hCD99$^{TMcytoI}$ and hCD99$^{cytoI}$, there is possibility of dimerization or oligomerization. In addition, the feasible mechanism of hCD99$^{cytoI}$ is that it could have intramolecular interaction between the N- and C- terminal domain through large flexible AB loop.

  • To investigate the structure and function of photosystem I, cartridge mutagenesis technique was used to inactivate the psaB gene of photosystem I. From the screen, many strains which have potential defects in photosystem I were generated. Biochemical analysis revealed that B2, one of the mutant, had a reduced amount of chlorophyll. Electron transfer activitx from photosystem II to photosystem I as oxygen uptake was the rate of 64 % of wild type. Also B2 showed a decreased photosystem I activity when measured by 77 K fluorescence emission spectrum. Particularly, immunodetection analysis showed that the B2 had reduced amount of PsaA/PsaB, but a normal range of PsaC and PsaD. Here we present a photoheterotrophic mutant for psaB gene as a unique model strain for future study of structural/functional relationship and biogenesis of photosystem I.

  • Let T be an m-linear Calderón-Zygmund operator. $T_{{\vec{b}S}}$ is the generalized commutator of T with a class of measurable functions {bi}i=1. In this paper, we will give some new estimates for $T_{{\vec{b}S}}$ when {bi}i=1 belongs to Orlicz-type space and Lipschitz space, respectively.

  • Using a base-point free version of the infinite symmetric product we define a fibrewise infinite symmetric product for any fibration $E\;\longrightarrow\;B$. The construction works for any commutative ring R with unit and is denoted by $R_f(E)\;l\ongrightarrow\;B$. For any pointed space B let $G_I(B)\;\longrightarrow\;B$ be the i-th Ganea fibration. Defining $M_R-cat(B):= inf{i\midR_f(G_i(B))\longrihghtarrow\;B$ admits a section} we obtain an approximation to the Lusternik-Schnirelmann category of B which satisfies .g.a product formula. In particular, if B is a 1-connected rational space of finite rational type, then $M_Q$-cat(B) coincides with the well-known (purely algebraically defined) M-category of B which in fact is equal to cat (B) by a result of K.Hess. All the constructions more generally apply to the Ganea category of maps.

  • Pigments and thylakoid membrane proteins were investigated in wild type and PS I- mutants from Synechocystis sp. PCC6803 Comparing morphological features, B2 was less fluorescent than the other strains. The contents of chlorophyll a were propotional to the FNR activity in thylakoid membrane. The FNR activity of mutants was lower than that of wild type. In the result of pigments analysis, mutants had smaller cholophyll a than that of wild type. The major carotenoid was found to he $\beta$-caroene, but aeaxanthin was barely detected in thylakoid membrane of mutants. The polypeptide, 14.8kD was detected by electrophoresis in mutants. It was considered to be the modification of 15.4kD in wild type. Membrane polypeptides of 17.6 and 19.7kD were not detected in mutants. In the result of western blotting, subunit I was detected in all strains, but subunit II was barely detected in mutants. Subunit II was not detected in B2 at all. In view of the results so far achieved, the changes of contents of chlorophyll and zeaxanthin were affected by the defficiency or modification of functional domain in subunit I. Also the modification in subunit I affected the subunit II- binding site in PS I. As the result, efficiency of photosynthesis was decreased. Key words: Synechoystis sp. PCC6803, PS I - mutant, Photosynthetic efficiency, Pigment,Thylakoid membrane proteins, Subunit I, II.

  • In this paper, we consider the following Kirchhoff-type Schr$\ddot{o}$dinger system $$\{-\(a_1+b_1{\int}_{\mathbb{R^3}}{\mid}{\nabla}u{\mid}^2dx\){\Delta}u+{\gamma}V(x)u=\frac{2{\alpha}}{{\alpha}+{\beta}}{\mid}u{\mid}^{\alpha-2}u{\mid}v{\mid}^{\beta}\;in\;\mathbb{R}^3,\\-\(a_2+b_2{\int}_{\mathbb{R^3}}{\mid}{\nabla}v{\mid}^2dx\){\Delta}v+{\gamma}W(x)v=\frac{2{\beta}}{{\alpha}+{\beta}}{\mid}u{\mid}^{\alpha}{\mid}v{\mid}^{\beta-2}v\;in\;\mathbb{R}^3,\\u,v{\in}H^1(\mathbb{R}^3),$$ where $a_i$ and $b_i$ are positive constants for i = 1, 2, ${\gamma}$ > 0 is a parameter, V (x) and W(x) are nonnegative continuous potential functions. By applying the Nehari manifold method and the concentration-compactness principle, we obtain the existence and concentration of ground state solutions when the parameter ${\gamma}$ is sufficiently large.

  • In this paper, we consider that the q-analogue of w$\omega-Bernoulli numbers\; B_i(\omega, q)$. And we calculate the sums of products of two q-analogue of $\omega-Bernoulli numbers B_i(\omega, q)$ in complex cases. From this result, we obtain the Euler type formulas of the Carlitz´s q-Bernoulli numbers $\beta_i(q)$ and q-Bernoulli numbers $B_i(q)$. And we also calculate the p-adic Stirling type series by the definition of $B_i(\omega, q)$ in p-adic cases.

  • We investigate the structures and the formation energy of inversion domain boundaries (IDBs) using the Tersoff empirical potential. Four kinds of IDBs ( A and B types for IDB* and Holt ) are considered. The IDBs with A type are energetically favorable compared to B type with the structural instability. The IDB* is also more stable than the Holt type in spite of fourfold and eightfold rings of bonds. We calculate the atomic configurations of the Holt IDBs induced by the interactions of the IDB* with the stacking faults $I_1$ and $I_2$. The stacking fault $I_2$ interacted with $I_1$ on the IDB induces the structural transformation from IDB* to Holt type.

  • This research was performed to find out the changes of serotonin receptors in the platelet of alcoholics. Using $_{125}I-LSD$ as a radioligand. We obtained the following results. 1) In the comparison of patients vs controls, $B_{max}$ of the former was significantly higher than that of the latter(P=0.0017). But there was no significant difference in the Kd between the two groups. 2) In the comparison of type 1 vs type 2, alcoholics by cloninger's classification $B_{max}$ of the latter was significantly higher than that of the farmer(P=0.0396). But there was no significant difference in the Kd between the two groups. 3) In the comparison of alcohol abuse vs alcohol dependence, there were no significant differences in the value of $B_{max}$ and Kd between the two groups. These results support the hypothesis of serotonin-deficit in alcoholism. Furthermore, it can be inferred that the increase of platelet serotonin receptors in alcoholics might be used as a trait marker.
