  • We propose optimization method of two-inductor loaded small loop antennas using simple genetic algorithm. To optimize the loop antennas for the RFID and the mobile phone band, we changed positions and values of the two inductors in the loop antenna. Visual basic was used to make genetic algorithm and to calculate fitness values by controlling the commercial EM software. The bandwidth of the optimized RFID loop antenna is 10 MHz at the center frequency of 922 MHz and that of the mobile phone antenna are 84 MHz and 266 MHz at the center frequency of 948 MHz(GSM band) and 1.81 GHz(DCS band), respectively.

  • The two-phase interleaved bidirectional DC-DC converter (TIBDC) is a very attractive solution to problems related to battery energy storage systems. However, the hard-switching TIBDC increases the switching loss and electromagnetic interference noise when the switching frequency increases. Hence, a soft-switching technique is required to overcome these disadvantages. In this study, a novel TIBDC with zero-voltage transition (TIBDC-ZVT) is proposed. Soft switching in the boost and buck main switches is achieved through a resonant cell that consists of a single resonant inductor and four auxiliary switches. Given its single resonant inductor, the proposed TIBDC-ZVT has a reduced size and can easily be implemented. The validity of the proposed TIBDC-ZVT is verified through experimental results.

  • The two-transformer full bridge (TTFB) PWM converter has two transformers which act as the output inductor as well as the main transformer, i.e. as the forward and the flyback transformer. Although the doubled leakage inductor of the TTFB makes it easier to achieve the zero-voltage switching (ZVS) of the lagging leg switch along the wide load range, it instigates a serious voltage ringing in the secondary rectifier diodes, which would require the dissipative snubber circuit, cause the serious power dissipation, and increase the voltage stress across those diodes. To overcome these problems, a, new lossless diode-clamp rectifier (LDCR) is employed as the output rectifier, which helps the voltage across rectifier diodes to be clamped on a half the output voltage $(V_o/2)$ or the output voltage $(V_o)$. Therefore, no dissipative snubber for rectifier diodes is needed and a high efficiency as well as low noise output voltage can be realized. The operations, analysis and design consideration of proposed converter are presented in this paper. To verify the validity of the proposed converter, experimental results from a 425W, 385-170Vdc prototype for the plasma display panel (PDP) sustaining power module (PSPM) are presented.

  • A new high-power step-up based on the two-module parallel-input (PISO) modular dual inductor-fed push-pull converter is proposed. The proposed converter is operated at a constant duty cycle and employs and auxiliary circuit to control the output voltage with a phase-shift between two modules. It shows a high efficiency due to the greatly reduced switch turn-off stress. It also shows a high and linear voltage conversion ratio, low current stress in the output capacitor, and fast control-to-output dynamics. The operation principles and the mathematical models of the proposed converter are presented. Features of the proposed converter are discussed in comparison with the two-module PISO modular dual inductor-fed push-pull converter. Also, experimental results from a 50kHz, 800W, 350 Vdc prototype with an input voltage range of 20-32 Vdc are provided to confirm the validity of the proposed converter. The new converter compares favorably with the conventional counterpart, and is considered well siuted to high-power step-up applications.

  • In this paper, a novel zero-voltage and zero-current switching (ZVZCS) interleaved two switch forward converter is proposed. By using a coupled-inductor-type smoothing filter, a snubber capacitor, the parallel capacitance of the leading switches and the transformer parasitic inductance, the proposed converter can realize soft-switching for the main power switches. This converter can effectively reduce the primary circulating current loss by using the coupled inductor and the snubber capacitor. Furthermore, this converter can reduce the reverse recovery loss, parasitic ringing and transient voltage stress in the secondary rectifier diodes caused by the leakage inductors of the transformer and the coupled inductance. The operation principle and steady state characteristics of the converter are analyzed according to the equivalent circuits in different operation modes. The practical effectiveness of the proposed converter was is illustrated by simulation and experimental results via a 500W, 100 kHz prototype using the power MOSFET.

  • This paper reports a novel tunable bandpass filter using two-state switched inductor with direct-contact MEMS switches for wireless LAN applications. In our filter configuration, the switched inductor is implemented to obtain more stable and much larger frequency tuning ratio compared with variable capacitor-based tunable filter. The proposed tunable filter was fabricated using a micromachining technology and electrical performances of the fabricated filter were measured. The filter consists of spiral inductors, MIM capacitors and direct-contact type MEMS switches, and its frequency tunability is achieved by changing the inductance that is induced by ON/OFF actuations of the MEMS switches. The actuation voltage of the MEMS switches was measured of 58 V, and they showed the insertion loss of 0.1 dB and isolation of 26.3 dB at 2 GHz, respectively. The measured center frequencies of the fabricated filter were 2.55 GHz and 5.1 GHz, respectively. The passband insertion loss and 3-dB bandwidth were 4.2 dB and 22.5 % at 2.55 GHz, and 5.2 dB and 23.5 % at 5.1 GHz, respectively.

  • In this paper, two types of thin nim bulk acoustic resonator(TFBAR) ladder filters are desisted and fabricated to analyze the effects of on-wafer inductor integration. To suppress the overmode phenomenon a 1 $\mu\textrm{m}$ thick air-gap is fabricated under the TFBAR and aluminum nitride is used for piezoelectric material, while platinum is employed for the top and bottom electrodes. The Tx filter in a duplexer, which usually has a steeper skirt characteristics o the right side of the passband, is designed with four serial and two shunt resonators, namely, a 4/2 stage. Similarly, the Rx filter is devised with a 3/4 stage to create a mirrored image of the Tx filter passband characteristics. Fabricated on-wafer spiral inductors with underpass reveals the Q factor of 5~9 at 2 ㎓. Inductor integrated filters have approximately 10 to 12 ㏈ out-of-band rejection improvement, when compared to the original filters.

  • A low-voltage high-linear bipolar OTA and its application to IF bandpass filter for GSM cellular telephone are presented. The OTA consists of a low-voltage linear transconductor, a translinear current gain cell, and three current mirrors. The bandpass filter is composed of two cascaded identical second-order bandpass filters, which consist of a resistor, a capacitor, and a grounded simulated inductor realized with two OTA's and a grounded capacitor. SPICE simulations using an 8 GHz bipolar transistor-array parameter show that the OTA with a transconductance of 1 mS exhibits a linearity error of less than ${\pm}2%$ over an input voltage range of ${\pm}0.65\;V$ at supply voltages of ${\pm}2.0\;V$. Temperature coefficient of the transconductance is less than $-90ppm/^{\circ}C$. The bandpass filter has a center frequency of 85 MHz and Q-factor of 80. Temperature coefficient of the center frequency is less than $-182ppm/^{\circ}C$. The power dissipation of the filter is 128 mW.

  • New classes of LC resonators for micro magnetic sensor device were proposed and fabricated. The first type LC resonator (Type I) consists of a small piece of microwire and two cylindrical electrodes at the end of the microwire without direct contact to its ferromagnetic core. In type I resonator the ferromagnetic core of the microwire and cylindrical electrodes act as an inductor and two capacitors respectively to form a LC circuit. The second type LC resonator (Type II) consists of a solenoidal micro-inductor with a bundle of soft magnetic microwires as a core. The solenoidal micro-inductors fabricated by MEMS technique were $500\sim1,000\;\mu{m}$ in length with $10\sim20$ turns. A capacitor is connected in parallel to the micro-inductor to form a LC circuit. A tiny glass coated $CO_{83.2}B_{3.3}Si_{5.9}Mn_{7.6}$ microwire was fabricated by a glass-coated melt spinning technique. A supergiant magneto-impedance effect was found in a type I resonator as much as 400,000% by precise tuning frequency at around 518.51 MHz. In type II resonator the changes of inductance as a function of external magnetic field in micro-inductors with properly annealed microwire cores were varied as much as 370%. The phase angle between current and voltage was also strongly dependent on the magnetic field. The drastic increments of magnetoimpedance at near the resonance frequency were observed in both types of LC resonators. Accordingly, the sudden change of the phase angle, as large as $180^{\circ}C$, evidenced the occurrence of the resonance at a given external magnetic field.
