  • Two-dimensional elastic analysis of doubly periodic circular holes in an infinite plane is given in this paper. Two cases of loading, remote tension and remote shear, are considered. A rectangular cell is cut from the infinite plane. In both cases, the boundary value problem can be reduced to a complex mixed one. It is found that the eigenfunction expansion variational method is efficient to solve the problem. Based on the deformation response under certain loading, the notched medium could be modeled by an orthotropic medium without holes. Elastic properties for the equivalent orthotropic medium are investigated, and the stress concentration along the hole contour is studied. Finally, numerical examples and results are given.

  • When Ti-6Al-4V is used in long steam turbine blades, the main issues are how to improve the fatigue strength as a problem of internal quality and how to forge the thinnest possible blades as problem of dimensional precision. To assure an excellent fatigue strength, it is important to make the two phase fine and equiaxial structure by providing enough plastic deformation in the two phase$(\alpha\;phase/\beta\;phase)$ temperature region. Accordingly, it needs to predict that forging temperature, preform design and forging velocity in forging process. To achieve this end, the two steps forging process was suggested to forge the thin and twisted blades with a precision hammer considering die forces and metal flow. Two steps forging process consists of the flattening forging process and finishing forging process. Process in forging of a 1016mm long steam turbine blade is designed by the finite element method. This study attempts to derive systematic design procedures for process design in the forging. Forging parameters was analyzed in two-dimensional plane-strain simulation and two steps forging process carried out in three-dimensional simulation. Consequently, optimal forging process parameters of long steam turbine blades in Ti-6Al-4V with a high dimensional precision are selected in the hammer die forging.

  • A modified generalized particle algorithm, MGPA, was suggested to improve the calculation efficiency of standard SPH Method in numerical analysis of high speed impact behavior. MGPA had a new weight function to reduce computation time. The efficiency of this method was proven through calculation for the sample problems of one dimensional rod impact problem and two dimensional plate impact problem. The MGPA method reduced the calculation error and stress oscillation near the boundaries. The validity of this approach was shown by the comparison with ABAQUS results in two dimensional plate impact problem.

  • In this paper, we consider approximation of eigenelements of a two dimensional compact integral operator with a smooth kernel by discrete collocation and iterated discrete collocation methods. By choosing numerical quadrature appropriately, we obtain convergence rates for gap between the spectral subspaces, and also we obtain superconvergence rates for eigenvalues and iterated eigenvectors. We then apply Richardson extrapolation to obtain further improved error bounds for the eigenvalues. Numerical examples are presented to illustrate theoretical estimates.

  • In the article [2], the conjugate Darboux-Protter problem Dn is formulated for the two dimensional wave equation in the class of unbounded functions and the uniqueness of solutions has been established. In this paper, we shall show the existence of solutions for the hyperbolic equations with Bessel operators in another special case.

  • The fundamental theory and application of boundary element method for two-dimensional problem are introduced in this paper. Based on this boundary element procedure, several numerical calculations such as circular cavity problem, a thin plate with hole under tension and a long thick-walled cylinder under internal pressure are performed. The numerical results show fairly good agreement with exact solutions or results of finite element method.

  • A speaker is a system which produces sound through electromechanical operations. It transforms electronic signals into audible sound signals. Almost all speakers are three dimensional. These days, many mobile electronic devices such as mobile electronic devices have become smaller and thinner. A problem with this miniaturization, however, is that the volume of speakers has also decreased. In contrast to conventional three dimensional speakers, we have invented a new type of two dimensional flexible speaker by utilizing the reverse piezoelectric effect.

  • A numerical scheme is proposed to obtain the individual stress intensity factors in an axisymmetric crack and in a three dimensional mixed mode crack. The method is based on the path independence of J and M integral and mutual or two-state conservation integral , which involves two elastic fields. Some numerical example are presented to investigate the effectiveness and applicability of the method for and axisymmetric crack and a three dimensional penny shaped crack problem under mixed mode.

  • A new search procedure, VLT(Vertex Line Tracing) heuristic, for two dimensional irregular shapes nesting problem was suggested in this study. The VLT heuristic was suggested to the nesting problem to overcome disadvantages of the existing NFP(No-Fit-Polygon) method. This VLT heuristic was compared with the results of the existing benchmark problems suggested by Albano, Hopper, and Burke. The results of the VLT heuristic give efficient solutions in the point of the scrap ratio and computation time. A computer program, NestLogic, using C++ for VLT heuristic was also developed for this nesting problem.

  • Consider the two-dimensional sorted-set convex hull problem: Given N points in a plane sorted by the x coordinates, compute the convex hull of the points. We propose an O(logNlog logN)-time algorithm that solves the sorted-set convex hull problem on an N\ulcorner\ulcorner${\times}$N\ulcorner\ulcorner reconfigurable mesh. The best known algorithm for the problem on an N\ulcorner\ulcorner${\times}$N\ulcorner\ulcorner reconfigurable mesh takes O(log\ulcornerN) time. Although there is a constant-time algorithm on an N${\times}$N reconfigurable mesh for general two-dimensional convex hull problem, the general convex hull problem requires Θ(N\ulcorner\ulcorner) time on an N\ulcorner\ulcorner${\times}$N\ulcorner\ulcorner reconfigurable mesh due to bandwidth constraints.
