Image processings using the two-dimensional wavelet transform (2DWT) have been a very active research area in recent years because the 2DWT possess many good properties. However, the discrete 2DWT can not be used for pattern recognition directly because it does not have the translation property. In this paper, we show why conventional discrete two-dimensional wavelet transforms cannot be used for pattern recognitions directly. Then, we propose a new method that makes it possible to use discrete 2DWT to pattern recognition without modification of standard pyramidal algorithms. The main idea of our method is to postprocess the wavelet transformed images using the second-order neural network. To justify the validity of the method, evaluations with test images were performed. The effectiveness of the method can be shown by the evaluation results.
The objective of this paper is to study two dimensional waves on the interface between two immiscible, invicid and incompressible fluid bounded by two rigid varing boundaries when gravity and surface tension appear. By using unfied asymptotic method, a K-dV equation with higher order terms from which many model equations for the fluid domain can be obtained, is derived.
A two-dimensional hybrid flaw solver has been developed for the accurate and efficient simulation of steady and unsteady flaw fields. The flow solver was cast to accommodate two different topologies of computational meshes. Triangular meshes are adopted in the near-body region such that complex geometric configurations can be easily modeled, while adaptive Cartesian meshes are, utilized in the off-body region to resolve the flaw more accurately with less numerical dissipation by adopting a spatially high-order accurate scheme and solution-adaptive mesh refinement technique. A chimera mesh technique has been employed to link the two flow regimes adopting each mesh topology. Validations were made for the unsteady inviscid vol1ex convection am the unsteady turbulent flaws over an NACA0012 airfoil, and the results were compared with experimental and other computational results.
A multi-dimensional thermal-hydraulic system analysis code, MARS 1.3.1, has been developed in order to have the realistic analysis capability of two-phase thermal-hydraulic transients for pressurized water reactor (PWR) plants. As the backbones for the MARS code, the RELAP5/MOD3.2.1.2 and COBRA-TF codes were adopted in order to take advantages of the very general, versatile features of RELAP5 and the realistic three-dimensional hydrodynamic module of COBRA-TF. In the MARS code, all the functional modules of the two codes were unified into a single code first. Then, the source codes were converted into the standard Fortran 90, and then they were restructured using a modular data structure based on "derived type variables" and a new "dynamic memory allocation" scheme. In addition, the Windows features were implemented to improve user friendliness. This paper presents the developmental work of the MARS version 1.3.1 including the hydrodynamic model unification, the heat structure coupling, the code restructuring and modernization, and their verifications.their verifications.
In this paper, we construct the analytic solutions and numerical solutions for a two-dimensional Riemann problem for Burgers' equation. In order to construct the analytic solution, we use the characteristic analysis with the shock and rarefaction base points. We apply the composite scheme suggested by Liska and Wendroff to compute numerical solutions. The result is coincident with our analytic solution. This demonstrates that the composite scheme works pretty well for Burgers' equation despite of its simplicity.

An algorithm for estimating incident angles of multiple broaband signals is proposed. The method adopts semicausal model for two dimensional linear prediction filter coefficients such that the arithmatic averag of the mean squared values of the forward and reverse prediction arrors is minimized. Preliminary results demonstrating the performance of the proposed method are presented. Simulation results indicate that the performance depends on signal-to-noise ratio and prediction order in spatial demension.
The post-processor for two-dimensional flow visualization has been developed by using OOP(object-oriented programming) of Visual C++. User-friendly GUI(graphic user interface) has been built on the base of MFC(Microsoft Foundation Class). The number and order of variables can be specified by user because the input style is the free-format. The new variable can be defined and added to the variable list by using the various operators and functions.

The Enthalpy Model was verified in order to analyze two- dimensional phase change problems. By using the Enthalpy Model, interface locations, frozen fraction rates, heat flux distribution rut cooled surfaces, and surface-integrated heat flux were purely numerically calculated in rectangular thermal storage units, whose initial condition was saturated liquid and phase change material was cooled on its boundaries by convective heat transfer. The calculations were performed for various Stefan numbers and Biot numbers. The effect on those dimensionless numbers were explained.
In this paper, a non-overlapping rectangular domain decomposition method is presented in order to numerically solve two-dimensional telegraph equations. The method is unconditionally stable and efficient. Spectral radius of the iteration matrix and convergence rate of the method are provided theoretically and confirmed numerically by MATLAB. Numerical experiments of examples are compared with several methods.
