The evaluation of Varian enhanced dynamic wedges (EDW) were performed in terms of quality assurance in external radiotherapy. The seven (10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 45, 60 deg.) EDW angles were evaluated for 6 and 15 MV x-rays in Varian Linac. The STT (segmented treatment table) for a field were calculated and compared with actual movement of the jaw using Dynalog files in order to evaluate mechanical operation. Two dimensional array detector and an ionization chamber were used to measure dose distributions in phantom from Linac. The mechanical movement of jaw was agreed with its expectation and two dimensional dose distributions including beam profiles were in agreement with RTP data approximately. In comparison with RTP calculations the percentage difference of output dose values for 100 MU irradiation was less than 2.9% and measured wedge factor was less than 2.6%. These results are shown that there is no problem in clinical applications of EDW equipped on this linac.
Singular stress fields around three-dimensional wedges are examined, and the near-tip intensity is calculated via the two-state M-integral with the aid of the domain integral representation. A numerical example demonstrates the effectiveness and accuracy of the present scheme for computing the stress intensities of singular stresses near the generic three-dimensional wedges.
Three components contribute to the acoustic field propagating in a wedge or over a ridge : a direct path arrival, an image component due to reflection from the boundaries and a component diffracted by the apex. All three contributions are included in a new, exact solution of the Helmholtz equation for the three-dimensional time harmonic field from a point source in a wedge(or over a ridge) formed by two intersecting, pressure-release plane boundaries. The solution is obtained by applying three integral transforms, and consists of and infinite sum of uncoupled normal nodes. The mode coefficients are given by a finite integral involving a Gegenbauer polynomial in the integrand, which may be computed relatively efficiently. Results of the theory for propagation over a 90 degree ridge is discussed.
Since the development of Discontinuous Deformation Analysis (DDA) by Shi (1984), there has been much improvement in the theory and programs. These, however, are all based on the assumption of a two-dimensional plane strain or plane stress state; and because a rock block system is a three-dimensional problem, a two-dimensional analysis has limited application. So a three-dimensional analysis is required in the design of rock slopes and underground spaces where three-dimensional discontinuities dominate stability. In this study three-dimensional DDA program is developed using the Shi's two-dimensional theory and program, and the two cases of three-dimensional block are analysed. The program is applied to one sliding-face blocks and wedge sliding and it gives the good results comparing to the exact solution. Multi-block cases will be analysed for many other application soon.
Linear detectors composed of several modules have been widely used in industrial in-line inspection. Two dimensional image obtained from the linear detector shows line artifact at the connection part of each module. In this study, we proposed a method to remove the line artifact using the flat-field correction and a wedge phantom image. Conventional flat-field correction has been applied to remove the artifact, however there are still line artifacts even after applying correction. It was found that two edge pixels at the connection part of two modules were over-corrected after the flat-field correction. Those edge pixels was corrected by using the correction factor obtained from an image of the wedge phantom, and images removed line artifacts were obtained. It is necessary to improve the method obtained manually the correction factor from the image of the wedge phantom.
In this study, unsteady aerodynamic analyses of a wedge-type airfoil based on nonlinear piston theory and Euler equations have been performed in supersonic and hypersonic flows. The third-order nonlinear piston theory (NPT) to calculate unsteady lift and moment coefficients is derived and applied in the time-domain. Also, unsteady flow quantities are obtained from the two-dimensional time-dependent Euler equations. For the CFD based unsteady aerodynamic analyses, an arbitrary Lagrangean-Eulerian (ALE) formulation for the Euler equations is used to calculate flow fluxes in the computational flow field with moving boundaries. Numerical comparisons for unsteady lift and moment coefficients are presented between NPT and Euler approaches. The results show very good agreements in the high supersonic and hypersonic flows. It means that the present NPT can be efficiently used to predict unsteady aerodynamic forces ol wedge type airfoils with dynamic motions in the high supersonic and hypersonic flow regimes.

A numerical analysis is performed to analyze the reacting flow-field of an axisymetric coaxial ramjet combustor. Two dimensional Navier-Stokes equation with low Reynolds number $k-\varepsilon$ turbulence model is utilized and finite-rate chemistry model is adopted. Eddy dissipation model is applied for a modeling of turbulent combustion. Two different types of combustors (combustor with a suddenly expanded dump and combustor with wedge-shaped flame holders) are compared in a view point of flame stabilizing.

To develope a hull form of catamaran type dredging vessel, resistance characteristics is investigated to find the interaction effect of waves between the two hulls. Re fore body shape is simplified as two dimensional wedge shape for the maintenance and disassembly/assembly. Based on MAC method, numerical simulation is performed in staggered variable mesh system. Re conservation form of Euler equations and continuity equation are applied as governing equations. To verify numerical methods, the wive patterns along the hull surface are compared with the results of model tests. This study is performed as varying wedge shape of the bow and the distance between the two hulls. The wave interaction between two hulls are observed to investigate the relation the resistance performance and the flow characteristics. Suitable hull form and distance between two hulls are discussed.

In order to determine the form and the length of saline wedge, it is necessary to evaluate interfacial friction factor. Hetherto one dimensional two-layer flow model which assumed pressure as the hydrostatic pressure distribution has been well used to the calculation of saline wedge form, it just then stands in need of relevant interfacial friction factor. For example, in the case where we calculate back to interfacial friction factor out of saline wedge form obtained at a laboratory open channel with comparatively narrow width, it is needed to correct the side-wall effect of a channel, if generally negligible in the river. In this study, we confirmed the influence of a side-wall upon the lateral velocity distributions at laboratory channel and then examined in detail the value of interfacial friction factor in the case where it was corrected by the side-wall effect and not corrected. And then we make clear the influence of a side-wall upon the arrested saline wedge and interfacial faction factor from these results.
The characteristics of steady two-dimensional laminar boundary layer flow of a viscous and incompressible fluid past a moving wedge with suction or injection are theoretically investigated. The transformed boundary layer equations are solved numerically using an implicit finite-difference scheme known as the Keller-box method. The effects of Falkner-Skan power-law parameter (m), suction/injection parameter ($f_0$) and the ratio of free stream velocity to boundary velocity parameter (${\lambda}$) are discussed in detail. The numerical results for velocity distribution and skin friction coefficient are given for several values of these parameters. Comparisons with the existing results obtained by other researchers under certain conditions are made. The critical values of $f_0$, m and ${\lambda}$ are obtained numerically and their significance on the skin friction and velocity profiles is discussed. The numerical evidence would seem to indicate the onset of reverse flow as it has been found by Riley and Weidman in 1989 for the Falkner-Skan equation for flow past an impermeable stretching boundary.
