  • This paper addresses the analysis of interruption costs and the studies made through the direct interview with Korean Industrial customers for the period of two years. It is conducted to evaluate the direct and short duration interruption costs resulting from local random electrical supply interruptions. The cost is evaluated by providing a designed questionnaire focused on the experience or the preparative actions which consumers predicted they would take. In the first phase, authors made a survey on all types of industry with 176 industrial customers and evaluated them as per standard industry classification (SIC). In that case, the evaluation data obtained are not so reasonable, because the number of sampled industries was small and the sampled industries were surveyed by being divided into 18 types. So, in the second phase the authors concentrated on only 4 types of 302 industries who have many and large sensitive loads to the short duration interruption.

  • Conducting sentiment analysis and opinion mining are challenging tasks in natural language processing. Many of the sentiment analysis and opinion mining applications focus on product reviews, social media reviews, forums and microblogs whose reviews are topic-similar and opinion-rich. In this paper, we try to analyze the sentiments of sentences from online webcast reviews that scroll across the screen, which we call live barrages. Contrary to social media comments or product reviews, the topics in live barrages are more fragmented, and there are plenty of invalid comments that we must remove in the preprocessing phase. To extract evaluative sentiment sentences, we proposed a novel approach that clusters the barrages from the same commenter to solve the problem of scattering the information for each barrage. The method developed in this paper contains two subtasks: in the data preprocessing phase, we cluster the sentences from the same commenter and remove unavailable sentences; and we use a semi-supervised machine learning approach, the naïve Bayes algorithm, to analyze the sentiment of the barrage. According to our experimental results, this method shows that it performs well in analyzing the sentiment of online webcast barrages.

  • For a large corpus of time-aligned data, HMM based approaches are most widely used for automatic segmentation, providing a consistent and accurate phone labeling scheme. There are two methods for training in HMM. Flat starting method has a property that human interference is minimized but it has low accuracy. Bootstrap method has a high accuracy, but it has a defect that manual segmentation is required In this paper, a new algorithm is proposed to minimize manual work and to improve the performance of automatic segmentation. At first phase, voiced, unvoiced and silence classification is performed for each speech data frame. At second phase, the phoneme sequence is aligned dynamically to the voiced/unvoiced/silence sequence according to the acoustic phonetic rules. Finally, using these segmented speech data as a bootstrap, phoneme model parameters based on HMM are trained. For the performance test, hand labeled ETRI speech DB was used. The experiment results showed that our algorithm achieved 10% improvement of segmentation accuracy within 20 ms tolerable error range. Especially for the unvoiced consonants, it showed 30% improvement.

  • In this study, the excessive noise and vibration phenomena of a high-speed Ro/Ro passenger ship were analyzed, and a countermeasure was taken based on them. This ship was granted a comfort class notation by the classification society, which was COMFORT-VIBRATION-II and COMFORT-NOISE-CREW-II. However, unfortunately, excessive noise and vibration in the aft part of the ship were delivered from the twin shaft propellers, and therefore the Class Requirement was not satisfied before delivery. In order to obtain the class notation, all of the concerned parties came to an agreement to reduce the noise and vibration level during operation after delivery because a seasonal ferry service was already scheduled and the cabin was fully booked. The root cause of the massive amount of noise and vibration was mainly the propeller-induced excitation pulse and beating that occurred from the mismatch of the rotating speeds of the two shaft lines. A 1st order vibrating force and beating phenomena existed in the propeller. Thus, a reduction of the excitation force, elimination of the beating phenomena, and decrease of the noise level at the aft area cabins and public spaces were required. In addition, structural reinforcements were conducted using pillars and additional girders at the aft part of the decks.

  • We have classified a number of aqueous ternary systems containing two different polymers into three types by focusing on the deviation of the Huggins constant k'from the additivity line. Systems of type I have negative deviations of k'; the repulsive interaction between the two different polymers dominates. In systems of type II, k' almost follows the additivity relation; the repulsive and attractive interactions between the two different polymers are balancing. Type III systems have positive deviations of k'; the attractive interactions are relatively dominant. This classification of systems is supported by the fact that the positive and negative deviations of k' from the additivity line also correspond to the sign of interaction parameter between polymer 2 and 3, Δb$\_$23/. Furthermore, we have verified the relatively high compatibility between dextran and poly(vinyl alcohol) by determining the binodal concentration of a liquid-liquid phase separation for a water/dextran/poly(vinyl alcohol) system, which is classified as type III. Thus, we found that the compositional dependence of k' closely relates to the compatibility of binary polymer mixtures in aqueous ternary systems.

  • In this paper, the characteristics of MODEM with the low and medium transmission rate which are recommended by the international organization such as CCITT have been studied and the features of the telephone channel have been investigated. Then three kinds of classification algorithm for the modulated signals have been suggested and their performance have been researched through the computer simulation. In case that the channel is ideal, the modulated type such as FSK, PSK and QAM could be detected correctly. Moreover, when the modulated signals are received through the telpehone channel or noisy channel, it could be seen that the performance of the correlation algorithm is superior to that of other two algorithms because of the correlation being robust to the characteristics of telephone chanel and Gasussian noise, although the performances of the two classification algorithm using the peak and phase difference, signal constellation and so on decrease rapidly as the amplitude distortion, delay distortion and Gaussian noise increase.

  • Imbalanced data sets are difficult to be classified since most classifiers are developed based on the assumption that class distributions are well-balanced. In order to improve the error back-propagation algorithm for the classification of imbalanced data sets, a new error function is proposed. The error function controls weight-updating with regards to the classes in which the training samples are. This has the effect that samples in the minority class have a greater chance to be classified but samples in the majority class have a less chance to be classified. The proposed method is compared with the two-phase, threshold-moving, and target node methods through simulations in a mammography data set and the proposed method attains the best results.

  • In this paper, we propose a new method for detecting bearing faults using vibration signals. The proposed method is based on support vector machines (SVMs), which treat the harmonics of fault-related frequencies from vibration signals as fault indices. Using SVMs, the cross-validations are used for a training process, and a two-stage classification process is used for detecting bearing faults and their status. The proposed approach is applied to outer-race bearing fault detection in three-phase squirrel-cage induction motors. The experimental results show that the proposed method can effectively identify the bearing faults and their status, hence improving the accuracy of fault diagnosis.

  • The main site of dust formation is believed to be the cool envelopes around AGB stars. Nearly all AGB stars can be identified as long-period variables (LPVs) with large amplitude pulsation. Shock waves produce by the strong pulsation and radiation pressure on newly formed dust grains drive dusty stellar winds with high mass-loss rates. IR observations of AGB stars identify various dust species in different physical conditions. Radio observations of gas phase materials are helpful to understand the overall properties of the stellar winds. In this paper, we review (i) classification of AGB stars; (ii) IR two-color diagrams of AGB stars; (iii) pulsation of AGB stars; (iv) dust around AGB stars including dusty stellar winds; (v) dust envelopes around AGB stars; (vi) mass-loss and evolution of AGB stars; and (vii) contribution of AGB dust to galactic environments. We discuss various observational evidences and their theoretical interpretations.

  • The authors studied the natural evaluation of lumbar soft disc herniation in 20 patients with lumbar radiculopathy that was successfully treated with conservative theraphy only. The first computed tomography (CT) examination was performed during the acute phase of the radiculopathy, and the second performed from 3 to 24 months after healing. The initial CT allowed classification of the herniations according to size: ten were considered small. ten medium. Comparison with follow-up scans showed that 18 of Herniations decreased between 0 and 25%, two decreased between 75 and 100%.
