  • This paper is to investigate theoretically position fixing by using gyroscopic inertia of free gyroscope. with respect to a reference position or starting point, the changes of the inclination angle of the spin axes and the elapsed time are taken a measurement. By using the two basic factors like changes of angles a position is fixed.

  • This paper describes a method for recognizing and measuring the motion of each individual leukocyte in microvessel from a sequence of images. A spatiotemporal image is generated whose spatial axes are parallel and vertical to vessel region contours. In order to enhance and extract only leukocyte traces with a turned velocity range even under noisy background, we use a combination of a filtering process using Gabor filters with sharp orientation selectivity and a subsequent 3D spatiotemporal grouping process. The proposed method is shown to be effective by experiments using image sequences of two kinds of microcirculation, rat mesentery microvessels and human retinal capillaries.

  • Noncircular gears have been used for obtaining the modified anglualr velocity ratio between parallel axes. The elliptical gear, which is a kind of noncircular gears, makes use of ellipse as a pitch curve, and is applied for the measurement of the discharge of liquid. The applications of an elliptical gear are more advantageous than any other mechanism as like a crank-slider linkage or a cam mechanism in view of the accuracy and the reliability to transmit the prescribed motion. In this paper, acceding to the theoretical involute tooth profile, two pairs of the elliptical gears were manufactured by using CNC wire electronic discharge machine. The proper ranges of the operating pressure angle and of module not to generate under cutting are studied on the change of the eccentricity, because it is the eccentricity of the pitch curve that determines most of the characteristics of the elliptical gear and then the vibration analysis is executed for the verification of harmonious rotating.

  • The authors aim to design further an upgraded and self-contained position fixing system to meet the future commercial requirements. As a first step this paper is to investigate the theoretical structure of position fixing based on the nature of free gyro, in which the tilt angles of the two spin axes at an arbitrary position are measured respectively and the elapsed time with respect to a reference position or starting point is observed And it illustrates some limitations to be expected in this system.

  • Questionnaire survey on performance requirement of ship’s speed such as not only accuracy but also response and robustness were carried out, and the experiments to survey the GPS performances of static and dynamic characteristics were carried out simultaneously. In this paper, the questionnaire survey focusing on docking maneuvering, some analytic results of the survey, the results of GPS performance, and the possibility of adaptation for docking maneuvering on SDME and GPS are discussed. Consequently, from the results of questionnaire survey the performance requirement of ship’s speed in docking/anchoring maneuvering have need under 1cm/sec on the standard deviation, and speed information from GPS was adopted to use maneuvering information in docking/anchoring.

  • Estimating moving vehicle loads is important in modeling design loads for bridge design and construction. The paper proposes a moving force identification algorithm using moment influence lines measured at multi-axes. Density estimation function was applied to estimate more than two wheel loads when estimated load values fluctuated severely. The algorithm has been examined through simulation studies on a simple-span plate-girder bridge. Influences of measurement noise and error in velocity on the identification results were investigated in the simulation study. Also, laboratory experiments were carried out to examine the algorithm. The load identification capability was dependent on the type and speed of moving loads, but the developed algorithm could identify loads within 10% error in maximum.

  • The design, dynamics, and control allocation of tri-rotor unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are introduced in this paper. A trirotor UAV has three rotor axes that are equidistant from its center of gravity. Two designs of tri-rotor UAV are introduced in this paper. The single tri-rotor UAV has a servo-motor that is installed on one of the three rotors, which enables rapid control of its motion and its various attitude changes-unlike a quad-rotor UAV that depends only on the angular velocities of four rotors for control. The other design is called 'coaxial tri-rotor UAV,' which has two rotors installed on each rotor axis. Since the tri-rotor type of UAV has the yawing problem induced from an unpaired rotor's reaction torque, it is necessary to derive accurate dynamic and design control logic for both single and coaxial tri-rotors. For that reason, a control strategy is proposed for each type of tri-rotor, and nonlinear simulations of the altitude, Euler angle, and angular velocity responses are conducted by using a classical proportional-integral-derivative controller. Simulation results show that the proposed control strategies are appropriate for the control of single and coaxial tri-rotor UAVs.

  • This paper shows the desist concept of an ATS(Antenna Tracking Software) to control the movement of the MSC(Multi-Spectral Camera) antenna. The MSC has a two-axes directional X-band antenna for image transmission to KGS(KOMSAT2 Ground Station). The main objective of the ATS is to drive the APM(Antenna Pointing Mechanism) to the required elevation and the azimuth position according to an appropriate TPF(Tracking Parameter File). The ATS is implemented as one task of the SBC(Single Board Computer) software, which uses VxWorks as a real time OS. The ATS has several operational modes such as STANDBY mode, First EL mode, First AZ mode, Normal Operation mode, and so on. The ATS uses two PI controllers fur the velocity and the position loop respectively, to satisfy the requirements specification. In order to show the feasibility of the described design concept, the various simulations and the experiments are performed under specific test configuration.

  • Essential tremor is a neurological disorder with a tremor of the arms and hands. It is well known that essential tremor is characterized by the postural tremor and the action tremor. There has been no report on the quantitative difference in the characteristics of two tremor types. The purpose of this study was to investigate the possible difference in tremor characteristics of postural and action tremors. Seventeen patients with essential tremor ($68.9{\pm}7.9years$, 7 men, 10 women) participated in this study. Patients performed the tasks of postural maintenance (arms outstretched) and daily actions (spiral drawing). Three-axes (pitch, roll and yaw) gyro sensors were attached on index finger, back of hand and forearm, from which the segment and the joint angular velocities were calculated. Outcome measure was the tremor amplitude defined as the root-mean-square mean of the vector-sum angular velocity at segments and joints. Two-way ANOVA showed that task and joint had main factor on the tremor amplitude (p < 0.05). Post-hoc analysis revealed that tremor amplitude at the metacarpo-phalangeal joint was not affected by task (p > 0.05). However, tremor amplitude at the wrist joint differed among the tasks (p < 0.05), and it was greater in the action tasks than in postural task. Tremor was greater at finger segments than at hand and forearm and it increased in action tasks. The results of this study would be helpful for the understanding and task-specific treatments of the essential tremor.

  • This study is to clarify the comparative relationship and a mechanical anisotropy of rock on the subject of granite distributed in the Namwon area Uniaxial compressive and Brazilian strengths with respect to the horizontal and vertical axes of granite are shown the linear relation. In the case of the result of the p-wave velocity measurement. it is represented that the velocity of vortical direction is faster about 10 to 15% than other two horizontal directions. The difference between velocities is caused by a developmental pattern of microcracks distributed in rock. Moreover, this result is very consistent with the result investigated through thin sections. The proportion of uniaxial compression strength to Index of point load strength ($Is_{(50)}$) is 18~20 times in case of granite. Uniaxial compressive strength is relatively good relationship with point load strength, Schmidt hammer rebound value, and tensile strength point load strength of them is the best comparative relationship. It is indicated that point load test is the most useful tool to estimate uniaxial compressive strength, comparing with other experimental methods.
