  • NEMO basic support is a solution that provides network mobility in the Internet topology. Yet, when multiple mobile networks are nested, this basic solution suffers ken pinball-routing and a severe routing overhead. Therefore, several solutions for route optimization in a nested mobile network have already been suggested by the IETF NEMO WG. However, the current paper proposes Regional Information-based Route Optimization (RIRO) in which mobile routers maintain a Nested Router List (NRL) to obtain next-hop information, and packets are transmitted with a new routing header called an RIRO Routing Header (RIRO-RH). We showed that RIRO had the minimum packet overhead that remained constant, irrespective of how deep the mobile network was nested, in comparison with two earlier proposed schemes - Reverse Routing Header (RRH) and Bi-directional tunnel between HA and Top-Level mobile router (BHT).

  • Ongoing huge Bakun Hydropower project is including the construction of a 210 m height hydroelectric rockfill dam with an installed capacity of 2,520 MW and a power transmission system connecting to the existing networks between Sarawak and peninsula Malaysia. In order to allow the main dam construction during the dry season, the Ballui river will have to be detoured through 3 concrete lined diversion tunnels with an internal diameter of 12 m and a length of 1,400 m each. The geology of Bakun site belongs to the several thousand meters thick Belaga formation deposited from the late Cteteceous to the early Teriary in the Northwest Borneo geosyncline. The orientation of the bedding plane, strike at N55$^{\circ}$E to N70$^{\circ}$E and dip at 50$^{\circ}$SE to 70$^{\circ}$SE, is developed uniformly in Bakun sedimentary rocks. Rock mechanical characteristics of Bakun site have been classified into 4 rock mass types(RMT) depending on the degree of weathering and the occurrence of rock jointing with RMR. Graywacke(Sandstone) as well as Shale can take place together in the same rock mass type if their rock mass properties are similar. It was summarized the rock support type and support system design of underground diversion tunnels in view of rock mechanics.

  • As the era of Industry 4.0 arrives, the researches using artificial intelligence in the field of rock engineering as well have increased. For a better understanding and availability of AI, this paper analyzed the types of algorithms and how to apply them to the research papers where AI is applied among domestic and international studies related to tunnels, blasting and mines that are major objects in which rock engineering techniques are applied. The analysis results show that the main specific fields in which AI is applied are rock mass classification and prediction of TBM advance rate as well as geological condition ahead of TBM in a tunnel field, prediction of fragmentation and flyrock in a blasting field, and the evaluation of subsidence risk in abandoned mines. Of various AI algorithms, an artificial neural network is overwhelmingly applied among investigated fields. To enhance the credibility and accuracy of a study result, an accurate and thorough understanding on AI algorithms that a researcher wants to use is essential, and it is expected that to solve various problems in the rock engineering fields which have difficulty in approaching or analyzing at present, research ideas using not only machine learning but also deep learning such as CNN or RNN will increase.

  • Evaluating the performance of Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) stands as a pivotal juncture in the domain of hard rock mechanized tunneling, essential for achieving both a dependable construction timeline and utilization rate. In this investigation, three advanced artificial neural networks namely, gated recurrent unit (GRU), back propagation neural network (BPNN), and simple recurrent neural network (SRNN) were crafted to prognosticate TBM-rate of penetration (ROP). Drawing from a dataset comprising 1125 data points amassed during the construction of the Alborze Service Tunnel, the study commenced. Initially, five geomechanical parameters were scrutinized for their impact on TBM-ROP efficiency. Subsequent statistical analyses narrowed down the effective parameters to three, including uniaxial compressive strength (UCS), peak slope index (PSI), and Brazilian tensile strength (BTS). Among the methodologies employed, GRU emerged as the most robust model, demonstrating exceptional predictive prowess for TBM-ROP with staggering accuracy metrics on the testing subset (R2 = 0.87, NRMSE = 6.76E-04, MAD = 2.85E-05). The proposed models present viable solutions for analogous ground and TBM tunneling scenarios, particularly beneficial in routes predominantly composed of volcanic and sedimentary rock formations. Leveraging forecasted parameters holds the promise of enhancing both machine efficiency and construction safety within TBM tunneling endeavors.

  • Proxy Mobile IPv6 (PMIPv6) is designed to provide network-based mobility management support to an MN without any involvement of the MN in the mobility related signalling, hence, the proxy mobility entity performs all related signalling on behalf of the MN. The new principal functional entities of PMIPv6 are the local mobility anchor (LMA) and the mobile access gateway (MAG). In PMIPv6, all the data traffic sent from the MN gets routed to the LMA through a tunnel between the LMA and the MAG, but it still has the single point of failure (SPOF) and bottleneck state of traffic. To solve these problems, various approaches directed towards PMIPv6 performance improvements such as route optimization proposed. But these approaches add additional signalling to support MN's mobility, which incurs extra network overhead and still has difficult to apply to multiple-LMA networks. In this paper, we propose a improved route optimization in PMIPv6-based multiple-LMA networks. All LMA connected to the proxy internetworking gateway (PIG), which performs inter-domain distributed mobility control. And, each MAG keeps the information of all LMA in PMIPv6 domain, so it is possible to perform fast route optimization. Therefore, it supports route optimization without any additional signalling because the LMA receives the state information of route optimization from PIG.

  • This paper proposes the use of transmissibility functions combined with a machine learning algorithm, Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs), to assess damage in a truss bridge. A new approach method, which makes use of the input parameters calculated from the transmissibility function, is proposed. The network not only can predict the existence of damage, but also can classify the damage types and identity the location of the damage. Sensors are installed in the truss joints in order to measure the bridge vibration responses under train and ambient excitations. A finite element (FE) model is constructed for the bridge and updated using FE software and experimental data. Both single damage and multiple damage cases are simulated in the bridge model with different scenarios. In each scenario, the vibration responses at the considered nodes are recorded and then used to calculate the transmissibility functions. The transmissibility damage indicators are calculated and stored as ANNs inputs. The outputs of the ANNs are the damage type, location and severity. Two machine learning algorithms are used; one for classifying the type and location of damage, whereas the other for finding the severity of damage. The measurements of the Nam O bridge, a truss railway bridge in Vietnam, is used to illustrate the method. The proposed method not only can distinguish the damage type, but also it can accurately identify damage level.

  • Recently, various networks have been introduced in the car of the internal and external sides. These have been integrated by one HMI(Human Machine Interface) to control devices of each network and provide information service. The existing vehicle navigation system, providing GPS based vehicle positioning service, has been included to these integrated networks as a default option. The GPS has been used to the most universal device to provide position information by using satellites' signal. But It is impossible to provide the position information when the GPS can't receive the satellites' signal in the area of tunnel, urban canyon, or forest canopy. Thus, this paper propose and implement the method of measuring vehicle position by using the sensing data of internal CAN network and external Wi-Fi network of the integrated car navigation circumstances when the GPS doesn't work normally. The results obtained by implementation shows the proposed method works well by map matching.

  • The existing Proxy Mobile IPv6 suffers from a long handover latency which in turn causes significant packet loss that is unacceptable for seamless realtime services such as multimedia streaming. This paper proposes an OpenFlow-enabled proxy mobile IPv6 (OF-PMIPv6) in which the control of access gateways is centralized at an OpenFlow controller of a foreign network. The proposed OF-PMIPv6 separates the control path from the data path by performing the mobility control at the controller, whereas the data path remains direct between a mobile access gateway and a local mobility anchor in an IP tunnel form. A group of simple OpenFlow-enabled access gateways performs link-layer control and monitoring activities to support a comprehensive mobility of mobile nodes, and communicates with the controller through the standard OpenFlow protocol. The controller performs network-layer mobility control on behalf of mobile access gateways and communicates with the local mobility anchor in the Proxy Mobile IPv6 domain. Benefiting from the centralized view and information, the controller caches the authentication and configuration information and reuses it to significantly reduce the handover latency. An analytical analysis of the proposed OF-PMIPv6 reactive and proactive handover schemes shows 43% and 121% reduction in the handover latency, respectively, for highly utilized network. The results gathered from the OF-PMIPv6 testbed suggest similar performance improvements.

  • In this paper, we implement and verify XMIP integrating IETF Mobile IP and the Explicit Multicast mechanism for a great number of small group multicast communications. U a source node sends Xcast packets explicitly inserting destination nodes into the headers, each Xcast router decides routes and forwards the packets toward each destination node based on unicast routing table without the support of multicast trees. n is a straightforward and simple multicast mechanism just based on a unicast routing table without maintaining multicast states because of the inheritance from the Explicit Multicast mechanism. This research modifies and extends the functionality of IETF Mobile IP's mobility agents, such as HA/FA to HA+/FA+ respectively, considering interworking with Xcast networks. Xcast packets captured by HA+ are forwarded into X-in-X tunnel interfaces for each FA+ referred to the binding table of HA.. This X-in-X tunneling mechanism can effectively solve the traffic concentration problem of IETF Mobile IP multicast services. Finally WLAN-based testbed is built and a multi-user Instant messenger system is developed as a Xcast application for finally verify the feasibility of the implemented XMIP/Xcast protocols.
