We study how to distinguish the parameters of the sparse autoregressive (AR) process from zero using a non-convex penalized estimation. A class of non-convex penalties are considered that include the smoothly clipped absolute deviation and minimax concave penalties as special examples. We prove that the penalized estimators achieve some standard theoretical properties such as weak and strong oracle properties which have been proved in sparse linear regression framework. The results hold when the maximal order of the AR process increases to infinity and the minimal size of true non-zero parameters decreases toward zero as the sample size increases. Further, we construct a practical method to select tuning parameters using generalized information criterion, of which the minimizer asymptotically recovers the best theoretical non-penalized estimator of the sparse AR process. Simulation studies are given to confirm the theoretical results.
This paper proposes the systematic auto-tuning method for fuzzy controller using genetic algorithm(GA). In general, the design of fuzzy logic controller has difficulties in the acquisition of expert's knowledge and relies to a great extent on heuristic knowledge which, in many cases, cannot be objectively justified. So, the performance of the controller can be degraded in the case of plant parameter variations or unpredictable incident which the designer may have ignored. Proposed genetic algorithm searches the optimal rule structure, parameters of membership functions and scaling factors simultaneously and automatically by a new genetic coding format. Inverted pendrum system is provided to show the advantages of the proposed method.
This paper is Proposed a new method to deal with the optimized auto-tuning for the PID controller which is used to the process-control in various fields. First of all, in this method, 1st order delay system with dead time which is modelled from the unit step response of the system is Pade-approximated, then initial values are determined by the Ziegler-Nickels method. So we can find the parameters of PID controller so as to minimize the fuzzy criterion function which includes the maximum overshoot, damping ratio, rising time and settling time. Finally, after studying the parameters of PID controller by Backpropagation of Neural-Network, when we give new K, L, T values to Neural-Network, the optimized parameter of PID controller is found by Neural-Network Program.
In this paper, a robust H$\infty$ optimal tuning problem of a structure-specified PSS is investigated for power systems with parameter variation and disturbance uncertainties. Genetic algorithm is employed for optimization method of PSS parameters. The objective function of the optimization problem is the H$\infty$-norm of a closed loop system. The constraint of the optimization problem are based on the stability of the controller, limits on the values of the parameters and the desired damping of the dominant oscillation mode. It is shown that the proposed H$\infty$ PSS tuned using genetic algorithm is more robust than conventional PSS.
Possibility of passive piezoelectric damping based on a new shunting parameter estimation method is studied using finite element analysis. The adopted tuning method is based electrical impedance that is found at piezoelectric device and the optimal criterion for maximizing dissipated energy at the shunt circuit. Full three dimensional finite element model is used for piezoelectric devices with cantilever plate structure and shunt electronic circuit is taken into account in the model. Electrical impedance is calculated at the piezoelectric device, which represents the structural behavior in terms of electrical field, and equivalent electrical circuit parameters for the first mode are extracted using PRAP (Piezoelectric Resonance Analysis Program). After the shunt circuit is connected to the equivalent circuit for the first mode, the shunt parameters are optimally decided based on the maximizing dissipated energy criterion. Since this tuning method is based on electrical impedance calculated at piezoelectric device, multi-mode passive piezoelectric damping can be implemented for arbitrary shaped structures.

We investigate a systematic design procedure of automated rule generation of fuzzy logic based controller for uncertain dynamic systems such as an engine dynamic model.“Automated Tuning”means autonomous clustering or collection of such meaningful transitional relations in the state-space. Optimal control strategies are included in the design procedures, such as minimum squared error, minimum time, minimum energy or combined performance criteria. Fuzzy feedback control systems designed by the cell-state transition method have the properties of closed-loop stability, robustness under parameter variabtions, and a certain degree of optimality. Most of all, the main advantage of the proposed approach is that reliability can be potentially increased even if a large grain of uncertainty is involved within the control system under consideration. A numerical example is shown in which we apply our strategic fuzzy controller design to a highly nonlinear model of engine idle speed contr l.
This paper presents Hybrid PI(HBPI) controller of induction motor drive using fuzzy control. In general, PI controllers used in computer numerically controlled machines process fixed gain. They may perform well under some operating conditions, but not all. To increase the robustness of fixed gain PI controller, HBPI controller proposes a new method based self tuning PI controller. HBPI controller is developed to minimize overshoot and settling time following sudden parameter changes such as speed, load torque, inertia, rotor resistance and self inductance. The results on a speed controller of induction motor are presented to show the effectiveness of the proposed gam tuner. And this controller is better than the fixed gains one in terms of robustness, even under great variations of operating conditions and load disturbance.
In the paper, a kind of self-tuning PID control system is designed to keep the honing coolant temperature constant in the process of automobile engine production. The conventional PID control method and the Fuzzy PID control method both are used to design and make the simulation experiment in Matlab. According to the simulation result, the performance of Fuzzy PID control method is obviously better. The Fuzzy PID control system can react faster to get the target temperature and resume normal when external conditions exchanged.
In this paper, we propose a new approach for robust auto-tuning of PID gains using Evolution Strategy. Evolution Strategy is searching algorithm which imitate the principles of natural evolution as a method to solve parameter optimization problem and easy to use without any other special mathematical theory. Through the simulation of the speed control of a series-connected de motor, our proposed method shows more improved performance by finding optimal parameters of PID controller than a classical Ziegler-Nichols method.
In this paper, a neural disturbance observer(NDO) is developed and its application to the control of a nonlinear system with the internal and/or external disturbances is presented. To construct the NDO, a parameter tuning method is proposed and shown to be useful in adjusting the parameters of the NDO. The tuning method employes the disturbance observation error to guarantee that the NDO monitors unknown disturbances. Each of the nodes of the hidden layer in the NDO network is a radial basis function(RBF). In addition, the relationships between the suggested NDO-based control and the conventional adaptive controls reported in the previous literatures are discussed. And it is shown in a rigorous manner that the disturbance observation error converges to a region of which size can be kept arbitrarily small. Finally, an example and some computer simulation results are presented to illustrate the effectiveness and the applicability of the NDO.
