  • Sinusoidal voltage-controlled oscillators (VCOs) based on Colpitts and Hartley oscillators are presented. They consist of a LC parallel-tuned circuit connected in a negative-feedback loop with an OTA-R amplifier and two diode limiters, where the inductor is simulated one realized with temperature-stable linear operational transconductance amplifiers (OTAs) and a grounded capacitor. Prototype VCOs are built with discrete components. The Colpitts VCO exhibits less than 1% nonlinearity in its current-to-frequency transfer characteristic from 4.2 to 21.7 MHz and ${\pm}$95 ppm/$^{\circ}C$ temperature drift of frequency over 0 to $70^{\circ}C$. The total harmonic distortion (THD) is as low as 2.92% with a peak-to-peak amplitude of 0.7 V for a frequency-tuning range of 10.8-32 MHz. The Hartley VCO has the temperature drift and THD of two times higher than those of the Colpitts VCO.

  • A flow control system was designed and fabricated to control the flow rate of liquid through the pipe. This control system was composed of hardwares and software, hardwares as controller, gate valve, orifice meter and data aquisition board and software as National instruments Labview program. Control of flow rate was executed by adjusting the pneumatic valve located at the center of pipe line based on the control signal generated by LabView PID control algorithm, which converts analog signal measured by pressure difference of orifice to digital signal to adjust pneumatic valve. For the controller setup Ziegler-Nichols tuning technique was applied and control performances were investigated for not only the disturbance but also the set point changes. Developed system showed good control performances in flow control enough to use as teaching tool of feedback control theory and practice in university, and also as industrial application.

  • Large container carriers are suffering from lack of knowledge on reliable correlation allowances between model tests and full-scale trials, especially at fully loaded condition, Careful full-scale sea trial with a full loading of containers both in holds and on decks was carried out to clarify it. Model test results were analyzed by different methods but with the same measuring data to figure out appropriated correlations factors for each analysis methods, Even if it is no doubt that model test technique is one of the most reliable tool to predict full scale powering performance, its assumptions and simplifications which have been applied on the course of data manipulation and analysis need a feedback from sea trial data for a fine tuning, so called correlation factor. It can be stated that the best correlation allowances at fully loaded condition for both 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional analysis methods are fecund through the careful sea trial results and relevant study on the large size container carriers.

  • In this paper the structure of 2-DOF controller based on artificial immune network algorithms has been suggested for nonlinear system. Up to present time, a number of structures of the 2-DOF controllers are considered as 2-DOF (2-Degrees Of Freedom) control functions. However, a general view is provided that they are the special cases of either the state feedback or the modification of PID controllers. On the other hand, the immune network system possesses a self organizing and distributed memory, also it has an adaptive function by feed back law to its external environment and allows a PDP (parallel distributed processing) network to complete patterns against the environmental situation, since antibody recognizes specific antigens which are the foreign substances that invade living creatures. Therefore, it can provide optimal solution to external environment. Simulation results by immune based 2-DOF controller reveal that immune algorithm is an effective approach to search for 2-DOF controller.

  • In this paper, a X band voltage controlled oscillator is proposed. The oscillator uses a transistor as an oscillating element and its oscillating frequencies are controlled by the tuning voltage of varactor diode. Using the circuit simulation tools, the matching circuits between the transistor and varactor diode, its input and output matching circuits, and a feedback circuits are designed. The measured results of the fabricated oscillator show that its oscillation frequencies are from 10.50GHz to 10.88GHz according to the turning voltages of 1V to 18V, its output power levels are about 4.3dBm, and its phase noise is around -43.5dBc/Hz at 100kHz offset frequency of 10.5GHz.

  • This paper is to show design of robot manipulator which has 3-link using DC Motor and realization of control algorithm with IBM - XT Micro-computer connected. Gentral algorithm is applicated by position and pass control using point-to-point method. At first, this paper computes required angles on each joint in order to search desired position or path, and uses a voltage control with feedback from output of encoder and tachometer in real time. The application of control algorithm on position, velocity and force for each joint of manipulator by using self-tuning control is left for next study.

  • Reactor control is a standout amongst the most vital issues in the nuclear power plant. In this paper, the optimal design of variable structure controller (VSC) based on the lightning search algorithm (LSA) is proposed for a nuclear reactor power system. The LSA is a new optimization algorithm. It is used to find the optimal parameters of the VSC instead of the trial and error method or experts of the designer. The proposed algorithm is used for the tuning of the feedback gains and the sliding equation gains of the VSC to prove a good performance. Furthermore, the parameters of the VSC are tuned by the genetic algorithm (GA). Simulation tests are carried out to verify the performance and robustness of the proposed LSA-based VSC compared with GA-based VSC. The results prove the high performance and the superiority of VSC based on LSA compared with VSC based on GA.

  • A control structure that makes possible the integration of a kinematic controller and a fuzzy logic (FL) deadzone compensator for mobile robots is presented. A tuning algorithm is given for the fuzzy logic parameters, so that the deadzone compensation scheme becomes adaptive, guaranteeing small tracking errors and bounded parameter estimates. Formal nonlinear stability proofs are given to show that the tracking error is small. The fuzzy logic deadzone compensator is implemented on a mobile robot to show its efficacy.

  • An effective cartesian coordinate model is presented to control a robot motion along a prescribed timebased hand trajectory in cartesian coordinates and to provide an adaptive feedback design approach utilizing self-tuning control methods without requiring a detailed mathematical description of the system dynamics. Assuming that each of the hybrid variable set of velocities and forces at the cartesian coordinate level is mutually independent, the dynamic model for the cartesian coordinate control is reduced to first-order SISO models for each degree of freedom of robot hand, including a term to represent all unmodeled effects, by which the number of parameters to be identified is minimized. The self-tuners are designde to minimize a chosen performance criterion, and the computed control forces are resolved into applied joint torques by the Jacobian matrix. The robustness of the model and controller is demonstrated by comparing with the other catesian coordinate controllers.

  • In this paper, A new tuning method for IMC-PID controller is proposed with the identification using the relay method from closed-loop transfer function. It is considered a second-order plus delay time(SOPDT) model and selected a third-order plus delay time transfer function model as a target function. The filter function is derived from the suitable target function to satisfy the design specifications. A robustness test was done to verify the robust-stability.
