  • In constructing fuzzy control systems. there are many parameters such as rule base. membership functions. inference m method. defuzzification. and I/O scaling factors. To control the system in properly using fuzzy logic. we have to consider t the correlation with those parameters. This paper deals with self-tuning of fuzzy control systems. The fuzzy controller h has parameters that are input and output scaling factors to effect control output. And we propose the looklongleftarrowup table b based self-tuning fuzy controller. We propose the PMTM(Plus-Minus Tuning Method) for self tuning method, self-tuning the initial look-up table to the appropriate table by adding and subtracting the values.

  • This paper presents the method for the automatic tuning of a design weighting polynomial parameter of a generalized minimum-variance stochastic self tuning controller which adapts to changes in the system parameters with time delays and noises. The self tuning effect is achieved through the recursive least square algorithm at the parameter estimation stage and also through the Robbins-Monro algorithm at the stage of optimizing a design weighting polynomial parameters. The proposed self tuning method is simple and effective compared with other existing self tuning methods. The computer simulation results are presented to illustrate the procedure and to show the performance of the control system.

  • More fuzzy hardware are expected to be utilized in the future to construct fuzzy logic controllers (FLCs). It is hard to find an existing fuzzy hardware which is adopting advanced functions such as self-tuning algorithm in addition to the conventional inference calculation. That is mainly because conventional self-tuning algorithms designed to implement with some hardware circuits is required for fuzzy hardwares to have self-tuning capability. As a first step toward the feature, a novel self-tuning algorithm is proposed in this paper. Based on the search method, the main idea of the proposed algorithm is to detemine valid ranges of input variables of an FLC in order to maximize performance indices fo the control system. The performance indices are so ismple as to be realized by hardware circuit. in dadditon to the conventional scaling-factor adjustment, the algorithm adjusts offset values as well, which, in effect, modifies fuzzy rules of the FLC. To justify the performance of the proposed algorithm, a simulation study is executed.

  • A rate gyroscope has been used popularly to measure the angular motion of a given vehicle using a symmetric rotor spinning rapidly about its symmetry axis. Since the rapid rotation is required in this type of gyroscope, the motor has been used to make the rotor spin, so that it results in a heavy configuration. The tuning-fork gyroscope has been developed to avoid this problem, which utilizes a coriolis coupling term and vibration about one axis. Because of the coriolis effect, the vibration of one axis is transferred to other axis when the angular motion along the vibrating axis is given to the system. The concept of a tuning-fork gyroscope was recently realized using MEMS techniques. However, the dynamic characteristics of the tuning-fork gyroscope has not been discussed in detail. In this study, we derived the equations of motion for the tuning-fork type gyroscope using the energy approach and investigated the dynamic characteristics by means of numerical analysis.

  • In the process control applications of self tuning control, a major concern of the control problem is to handle an offset caused by load disturbances and random steps occuring at random instance of time. Conventionally an integrator is incorperated in the forward path of the controller to eliminate such an offset. But this approach causes a difficulty if the adaptive part of the resultant controller is to be evaluated. In this paper a method of analyzing the adaptive system and improving the offset effect is suggested for a class of referance model method in the self tuning adaptive control system.

  • We investigate the effect of the reflectivity of both facets and the phase of a phase tuning section on the self-pulsation (SP) characteristics of multisection index-coupled (IC) DFB lasers composed of two index-coupled DFB sections and a phase tuning section between them in terms of yield. In the case of weak coupling strength, as the reflectivity of both facets increases, the effect of reflected fields from both facets and the other DFB section on the mode characteristics of one DFB section increases. Thus the number of mode hoping increases and yield decreases for the variation of phases of both facets. In the case of strong coupling strength, as the reflectivity of both facets increases, the spatial hole burning effect increases, so that the yield decreases. The maximum yield and the range of the phase of a phase tuning section with yield more than 40% decrease as the facet reflectivity increases irrespective of coupling strength. As the coupling strength increases, the variation of yield for the variation of the phase of a phase tuning section increases and the variation of the phase of a phase tuning section with the maximum yield for the variation of the reflectivity of both facets decreases. The yield characteristics of the cases with the coupling strengths of 2 and 3 are better than those with the coupling strengths of 1.2 and 4.
