Steam generator(S/G) tubes in pressurized water reactor (PWR's) are subject to several types of degradation. This degradation includes denting, pitting, intergranular attack(IGA), intergranular stress corrosion cracking(IGSCC), fatigue, fretting and wear. Degradation can be derived from either the primary side(inside) or the secondary side(outside) of the tube. Recent issue for tube degradation in domestic steam generator is the tube end cracking on seal weld region. The seal weld region at the tube end and tube itself is regarded as a pressure boundary between the primary side and the secondary side. One of the Westinghouse Model-F S/G has experienced tube end cracking and its number of plugging approximately becomes to the operating limit up to 5% due to tube end cracking which was reported as SAI/MAI(single/multiple axial indication) or SCI/MCI(Single/multiple circumferential indication) from the results of eddy current testing. Eddy current mock-up test was carried out to determine the origin of cracking whether it is from weld zone area or parent tube. This result was helpful to analyze crack location on ECT data. Correct action on this problem was the installation of tube-end sleeve. Last year, after removing 340 installed plugs from tubes, selected 269 tubes took tube-end sleeve installation. Tube-end sleeve brought pressure boundary from parent tube to installed sleeve tube. Tube-end sleeve has the benefit of reducing outage period and increasing more revenue than replacing S/G. This paper is provided to assist interest parties in effectively understanding this issue.
This study was performed numerical analysis in order to analyze liquid film flow of heat exchanger tube arrangement and configuration of evaporative multi effect distillation system using medium-temperature. Simulation was accomplished the two-dimensional calculations using commercial analyses program FLUENT based on the FVM(finite volume method). Fresh water generator of this study used Shell & Tubes heat exchanger with Cu_Ni tube, configuration of tube used bare tube and corrugated tube, and arrangement of tube used in-line array and staggered array. Performance of heat exchanger through the formation of liquid film was compared and analyzed. Liquid film flow occurred that falling on heat exchanger tube wall. Result of simulation showed that liquid film thickness of in-line arrangement was found 0.57mm with bare tube and 0.67mm with corrugated tube, respectively. And liquid film thickness of staggered arrangement was found 0.39mm with bare tubes and 0.62mm with corrugated tubes, respectively. Liquid film thickness of corrugated tube showed thicker than bare tube, but heat transfer rates of corrugated tube showed higher than bare tube. The reason was considered that surface area of corrugated tube was wider than bare tube. And liquid film thickness of staggered arrangement showed thinner than in-line arrangement, so thermal performance of staggered arrangement showed higher than in-line arrangement.
The present paper dealt with an experimental study of condensation heat transfer coefficients with refrigerant R-22, R-407C and R-410A, and was focused on pressure gradient and heat transfer coefficient in horizontal tube-in-tube heat exchangers using inner diameter of 4 mm, 3 mm and 2 mm in a 16.91 mm tube and length of 3,000 mm. Experiments were performed at inlet saturation temperature of 35 to $45^{\circ}C$ and mass flux ranges from 200 to $600 kg/m^2s$. The pressure gradient with inner tube diameter of 4.0 mm is higher 2.5 times than that of 8.0 mm. In tube-in-tube HEX, the pressure gradient of R-410A were lower than those of R-22 and R-407C. The condensation heat transfer coefficients increased with mass flux increase, but they decreased with saturation temperature increased. Condensation heat transfer coefficients of R-410A were a little higher than those of R-22 and R-407C. The condensation heat transfer coefficients of tube-in-tube HEX were about 40% higher than those of double tube HEX.
In this study, friction test was proposed to obtain coefficient of friction between tube and die in guide zone of tube hydroforming and friction coefficients were evaluated at different materials, viscosity of lubricants and internal pressures. For this study, STKM11A and SUS tubes were prepared. The tube was expanded by an internal pressure against the tool wall. By pushing the tube through the tool, a friction force at the contact surface between the tube and the tool occurs From the recorded axial feeding forces, the friction coefficients between tube and die at the guide zone in tubular hydroforming can be estimated. The effects of the various internal pressures, viscosity of lubricants, tube materials, tube size and die coating on the friction forces and friction coefficients are discussed.
An implicit finite element formulation for axisymmetric tube hydroforming is investigated. In order to describe normal anisotropy of the tube, Hill's non-quadratic yield function is employed. The frictional contact between die and tube and frictionless contact between tube and fluid are considered using the mesh-normal vector computed from finite element mesh of the tube. In order to verify the validity of the developed finite element formulation, the axisymmetric tube bulge test is simulated and simulation results are compared with experimental measurements. In the axisymmetric tube hydroforming process, an optimal hydraulic curve is pursued by performing the simulation with various internal pressures and axial forces.
Recently, the hydroforming process is widely applied to the automotive industry and rapidly spreaded to other industries. In this paper, An implicit finite element formulation for simulating axisymmetric tube hydroforming processes is performed. In order to describe normal anisotropy of the tube, Hill's non-quadratic yield function is employed. The frictional contact between die and tube and the frictionless contact between tube and fluid are considered using the mesh-normal vectors computed from the finite element mesh of the tube. The complete set of the governing relations comprising equilibrium and interfacial equations is linearized for Newton-Raphson procedure. In order to verify the validity of the developed finite element formulation, the axisymmetric tube bulge test is simulated and the simulation results are compared with experimental measurements. In a simulation of stepped circular tube hydroforming processes, an optimal hydraulic pressure curve is pursued by considering simultaneously internal pressures and axial forces.
A Miniature inertance pulse tube refrigerator was designed and tested with a 10 W compressor. Erperiments were carried out for different pulse tube length and inertance tube length. An adiabatic model which considered the pressure drop in the regenerator was used to analyze the performance of the pulse tube refrigerator. Among various design parameters which should be optimized, the pulse tube length and the inertance tube length were optimized. PdV work and several different loss mechanism were included in the analysis to simulate more accurately the physical phenomena in the pulse tube refrigerator. Nevertheless, the simulation program could not completely predict the porformance of the refrigerator. The possible reason for the difference of the optimal point between the simulation and the experiment was explained.
This paper studies the effect of vibration characteristics of tube line conveying fluid with the power steering system of bus. We modelled fluid-filled tube line using I-DEAS software to investigate vibration characteristics of the power steering tube line. And we obtained the natural frequency of tube line through finite element analysis. Analytic solutions were compared with experimental solutions to verify finite element model. We tested the tube line to examine an effect of pressure pulse by vane pump and variation of geometry of tube. From both the experimental results and the modeling results for vibration characteristics of the tube line conveying fluid, we confirmed that vibration characteristics induced by pulse propagated along the power steering tube line and resonance occurred around the natural frequency with pulse excitation.
Brake tube is considered one of the most important parts in automobile. The shape of brake tube end has a great influence on the function of brake, and the quality and productivity of brake tube have relation to die design. The forming process of brake tube end is performed by hydraulic press forming machine. In this paper, the forming processes of tube end for automobile is analyzed and designed to make the optimal form of brake tube end. Also, finite element analysis has been carried out using $DEFORM^{TM}% 3D to predict the optimal shape of brake tube end and the results obtained showed the optimal length between punch and chuck is $1.0{\sim}1.2mm$. The shape of tube end is in good agreement with the finite element simulations and the experimental results.
When a shock wave arrives at an open end of tube, an impulse wave is discharged from the tube exit and causes serious noise and vibration problems. In the current study, the effect of the cross-sectional area of tube on the impulse wave is numerically investigated using a CFD method. The Harten-Yee's total variation diminishing(TVD) scheme is used to solve the axisymmetric, two-dimensional, unsteady, compressible Euler equations. With three different cross-sectional areas of tube, the Mach number of the incident shock wave $M_{s}$ is varied between 1.01 and 1.5. The results obtained show that the directivity and magnitude of impulse wave strongly depend upon the Mach number of incident shock wave and are influenced by the tube area. It is also known that the tube cross-sectional area significantly affects the magnitude of impulse wave at or near the tube axis.
