  • The economy of ship's size and speed is affected by the freight rates, sailing distances, cargo handling rates, fuel oil prices and even interest rates of the borrowed funds. It can be a step more powerful measures if the economic evaluation model takes in a cargo lot size which prevails in the shipping markets. This paper has dealt with hypothetical cargo lots which happen to the market with uniform distribution in probability. The evaluation models are either profit maximization method or cost minimization method. The former compares among different voyages in profitability to the invested funds, the later defines the transportation efficiency in ton-mile unit and be used in comparing two or more transportation means. This paper adopted both of above methods to derive out ships economical evaluation contours for the various ship's speed and deadweight for certain cargo lot sizes, which can be used as important managerial decision data in purchasing ships or selecting a most profitable one among the proposed voyages. This evaluation contours will also be efficiently used in appraising so called "handy size ships" in connection with port water depth and conditions of voyage tracks.ge tracks.

  • This paper analyzes the differences in the service quality priorities of air cargo service providers and customers. After having identified what constitutes the decisive factors with regards to air cargo service quslity, research was carried out to evaluate the differences in the service quality priorities of air cargo service providers and customers. Moreover, this paper analyzes these differences by separating air cargo service providers into Korean and international air cargo service providers. In order to attain the objectives of this research, the air cargo service sectors were divided into three general categories: supply capability(H/W), service accountability, and competitiveness of service fees and management capability(S/W). The researchers then placed 6 different criteria into each service category, for a total of 18. The evaluation of the service quality priorities of air cargo service providers and customers revealed very little difference between these two groups. With regards to the service criteria found in each service category, our research found marked differences between the service quality priorities of providers and customers in only three of the 18 criteria. However, we found marked differences in service quality priorities in 7 of the 18 criteria when the air cargo service providers were divided into Korean and international air cargo providers. While domestic air cargo service providers evaluated management's capability to handle cargo accidents and incidents as the most important priority, international air cargo service providers placed the highest priority on the cargo rate system. The results of this research imply that in order to properly evaluate the differences between the service quality priorities of air cargo service providers and customers, the air cargo service providers itself should be separated between the Korean air cargo service providers and the foreign providers because of their respective inherent perception on service quality.

  • This study was conducted with the goal of analyzing the needs of Truckers, who are the main users of the cargo transportation platform, to find a development direction for the improvement and activation of the cargo transportation platform service. For this purpose, this study conducted an empirical analysis through IPA analysis targeting Truckers using domestic cargo transportation platforms. As a result of the IPA analysis, in the case of importance, fair fare presentation, unfair trade prevention measures, transportation payment deadline accuracy, transportation section information provision accuracy, quick interaction, application system quality, ease of use, user-customized service, settlement service support function, Variety of transportation sections, brand image, and additional services were shown in order. In the case of satisfaction, ease of use, settlement service support function, transport section information provision accuracy, application system quality, brand image, additional services, user-customized service, transport section diversity, quick interaction, transport payment deadline accuracy, unfair transaction prevention Measures and fair fares were presented in that order. The analysis results show high satisfaction with the ease of use related to the platform quality and the function to support the settlement work. These results can be seen as the result of a significant investment in system quality improvement for the convenience of users by suppliers in the domestic cargo transportation platform industry, where competition has become fierce. As the factors most urgently needed for improvement, 'observance of payment deadlines', 'prevention of unfair trade', and 'provision of fair fares' were selected, and these are related to chronic problems in the domestic freight transportation industry.

  • With the goal of eradicating overwork, overload, and speeding of general freight cars(cargo) by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Infrastructure and Transport, the "The Fare of safe transportation for freight cars System" has been enforced since 2020. 'The Fare of safe transportation for freight cars' rate for each item is being applied and supplemented, but the 'The Cost of safe transportation for freight cars' of general freight cars (cargo) and steel items is under discussion. The purpose of this study was to estimate the willingness to pay( WTP) for cargo. A survey was conducted on shippers, transportation companies (arrangers, carriers), and cargo drivers (using direct questioning among contingent valuation method (CVM) and the Tobit Regression analysis was conducted, and the average and median values of freight rates were derived using the estimated results, and the willingness to pay by tonnage of freight cars was confirmed. It is expected that the results of this study can be used as a reference to the "The Fare of safe transportation for freight cars Committee" an organization for deliberation and resolution of the 'The Cost of safe transportation for freight cars'.

  • In this study, The goal is to analyze the feasibility of introducing a Piggyback system that can reduce the time and cost incurred by transshipment work and improve the transportation speed when transporting complex cargo by rail. To this end, the feasibility analysis methodology is reviewed through domestic and international literature review. In order to quantitatively derive the feasibility analysis values, a transportation database was applied to develop a freight transport simulation model and a freight demand prediction model for major freight transport O-D routes with a transportation distance of 200 km or more. As a result of analyzing economic feasibility by setting the analysis period to 15 years on the premise that the Piggyback System will be introduced on major cargo transport O-D routes in 2025, the NPV value was positive and the B/C value was 1.18, indicating that the Piggyback system was economical. The proposed research method can be meaningful data for establishing transportation policies that can improve the competitiveness of railroad transportation.

  • The purpose of this study is to estimate and forecast the marine trading volumes based on the structural model. We employ GPH cointegration test since the structural model must be stationary to get the accurate predicted values. The empirical results show that our model is stationary. This paper also applies variance decompositions and impulse-response functions to the structural model composed of exchange rate, domestic industrial activity, and world business. The results indicate that while both loading and unloading volumes respond positively to the shocks in income and then decay very slowly, their responses are different to the shocks in exchange tate.

  • To reduce the vibrations and shocks during the cargo transportation of high value-added goods, the vibration history was measured on the truck transportation section (Asan-Uiwang) and the freight train transportation section (Uiwang-Pusan). The internal vibrations of the container were obtained by attaching acceleration sensors in three axis directions (longitudinal, lateral. and vertical directions) on the front and rear bogies. The rail vibration profile (0.29Grms) proposed in ASTM D-4169 was approximately 50% higher than the truck vibration profile (0.54Grms). The overall vibration was 16% and 33 % lower in the longitudinal and transverse directions, respectively, compared to the ASTM truck transport vibration profile. On the other hand, the vertical vibration measurement history partially exceeded the ASTM truck transport vibration profile over the range, 4 - 15Hz, and over 60Hz. The vibration measurement history of the cargo train was similar to that of the road. The longitudinal and lateral vibration history was lower than the ASTM D-4169 rail vibration profile, while the vertical history was over 30Hz.
