Study of SF6/Ar plasma based textured glass surface morphology for high haze ratio of ITO films in thin film solar cell

  • The front transparent conductive oxide (TCO) films in thin fill solar cell should exhibit high transparency, conductivity, good surface morphology and excellent light scattering properties. The light trapping phenomenon is limited due to random surface structure of TCO films. The proper control of surface structure and uniform cauliflower TCO films may be appropriate for efficient light trapping. We report light trapping scheme of ICP-RIE glass texturing by SF6/Ar plasma for high roughness and haze ratio of ITO films. It was observed that the variation of etching time, pattern size and Ar flow ratio during ICP-RIE process were important factors to improve the diffused transmittance and haze ratio of textured glass. The ICP-RIE textured glass showed low etching rates due to the presence of metal elements like Al, B, F and Na. The ITO films deposited on textured glass substrates showed the high RMS roughness and haze ratio in the visible wavelength region. The change in surface morphology showed negligible influence on electrical and structural properties of ITO films. The ITO films with high roughness and haze ratio can be used to improve the performance of thin film solar cells.

Investigation of Physical Property Change in Modified Rice Starch by Ultra Fine Pulverization (초미세분쇄를 이용한 쌀 변성전분의 물리적 특성 변화구명)

  • This study was performed to analyze the molecular structural and physical properties changes of modified rice starch, which particle structure was broken using high impact planetary mill and ultra fine pulverizing techniques. The average diameter and specific surface area of rice starch after pulverization decreased 20% and increased 25%, respectively. Low molecular substances content in rice starch using GPC (gel permeation chromatography) increased from 36.5% to 59.5% after pulverizing of rice starch. Damaged starch contents in rice starch also increased from 16.4% to 99.2% after pulverizing of rice starch. Water holding capacity, solubility and transmittance of rice starch after pulverization increased compared to those of control. Apparent viscosity value of rice starch after pulverization decreased to 7% in control based on $30^{\circ}C$ and 20 RPM conditions.

  • Insulating and conducting 12CaO ${\cdot}7Al_2O_3$ (Cl2A7)-doped indium tin oxide (ITO) (ITO:Cl2A7 insulator and electride) thin films were deposited on glass substrates by an RF magnetron co-sputtering method with increasing number of insulating and conducting Cl2A7 target chips. The structural, electrical and optical properties of these films were investigated. The carrier concentration decreased and resistivity increased in the films with increasing number of Cl2A7 target chips. The optical transmittance of all of the thin films was above 80 % in the visible wavelength range. The structural property and surface roughness of the films were examined and the decrease of crystallinity and surface roughness was strongly dependent on the change of grain size.

Characteristics of Ag-added Ge2Sb2Te5 Thin Films and the Rapid Crystallization (Ag-첨가 Ge2Sb2Te5 박막의 물성 및 고속 결정화)

  • We report several experimental data capable of evaluating the amorphous-to-crystalline (a-c) phase transformation in $(Ag)_x(Ge_2Sb_2Te_5)_{1-x}$ (x = 0, 0.05, 0.1) thin films prepared by a thermal evaporation. The isothermal a-c structural phase changes were evaluated by XRD, and the optical transmittance was measured in the wavelength range of $800{\sim}3000$ nm using a UV-vis-IR spectrophotometer. A speed of the a-c transition was evaluated by detecting the reflection response signals using a nano-pulse scanner with 658 nm laser diode (power P = $1{\sim}17$ mW, pulse duration t = $10{\sim}460$ ns). The surface morphology and roughness of the films were imaged by AFM. It was found that the crystallization speed was so enhanced with an increase of Ag content. While the sheet resistance of c-phase $(Ag)_x(Ge_2Sb_2Te_5)_{1-x}$ was similar to that of c-phase $Ge_2Sb_2Te_5$ (i.e., $R_c{\sim}10{\Omega}/{\square}$), the sheet resistance of a-phase $(Ag)_x(Ge_2Sb_2Te_5)_{1-x}$ was found to be lager than that of a-phase $Ge_2Sb_2Te_5$, $R_a{\sim}5{\times}10^6{\Omega}{/\square}$. For example, the ratios of $R_a/R_c$ for $Ge_2Sb_2Te_5$ and $(Ag)_{0.1}(Ge_2Sb_2Te_5)_{0.9}$ were approximately $5{\times}10^5$ and $5{\times}10^6$, respectively.

  • Transparent ZnS ceramics were synthesized by hydrothermal synthesis ($180^{\circ}C$ for 70 h), and were sintered by a hot press process at $950^{\circ}C$. To confirm the optical properties of the ZnS ceramics after sintering for various sintering holding times, we performed X-ray diffraction analysis, scanning electron microscopy, and Fourier-transform-infrared spectroscopy. The ZnS nanopowders was found to be single-phase (cubic) without any hexagonal phase. However, the hexagonal phase is formed and increases in content with increasing sintering holding time. The density of the ZnS ceramics was above 99.7%, except for the unsintered one. The ZnS ceramics showed high transmittance (~70%) when sintered for more than 2 h.

Fabrication and Characterization of Transparent Piezoresistors Using Carbon Nanotube Film (탄소나노튜브 필름을 이용한 투명 압저항체의 제작 및 특성 연구)

  • We present the fabrication and characterization of transparent carbon nanotube film (CNF) piezoresistors. CNFs were fabricated by vacuum filtration methods with 65?92% transmittance and patterned on Au-deposited silicon wafer by photolithography and dry etching. The patterned CNFs were transferred onto poly-dimethysiloxane (PDMS) using the weak adhesion property between the silicon wafer and the Au layer. The transferred CNFs were confirmed to be piezoresistors using the equation of concentrated-force-derived resistance change. The gauge factor of the CNFs was measured to range from 10 to 20 as the resistance of the CNFs increased with applied pressure. In polymer microelectromechanical systems, CNF piezoresistors are the promising materials because of their high sensitivity and low-temperature process.

Modification of Physicochemical Properties of Rice Starch by Heat-Moisture Treatment (수분-열처리한 쌀전분의 이화학적 특성)

  • Starch samples of rice and glutinous rice starches were adjusted to 27 % of moisture and heated at $100^{\circ}C$ for 16 hours, respectively. After the treatment, their physicochemical properties were investigated. The granule shapes of all the starches were polygonal and they became slightly bigger in their sizes after the treatment. All their X-ray diffraction patterns were A types. The specific gravity of the starches decreased to 1.03-1.09 by the treatment. The water binding capacity of rice starches increased, while that of glutinous counterparts slightly decreased. Almost no change in the amount of amylose included was found. Swelling power and solubility were increased with the increase of temperature. At a certain temperature, however, the solubility of the treated starches increased when the swelling power decreased. The initial gelatinization temperatures of Akkibare, Yongmun, and Taebaek starches were $60{\sim}65^{\circ}C$ but those of glutinous rice starch and U.S.A. rice starch were $55{\sim}60^{\circ}C$ and $70{\sim}75^{\circ}C$, respectively, as measured by transmittance. The gelatinization temperature of the treated starches was higher than that of the untreated starches.

Development of Feature Extraction Algorithm for Finger Vein Recognition (지정맥 인식을 위한 특징 검출 알고리즘 개발)

  • This study is an algorithm for detecting vein pattern features important for finger vein recognition. The feature detection algorithm is important because it greatly affects recognition results in pattern recognition. The recognition rate is degraded because the reference is changed according to the finger position change. In addition, the image obtained by irradiating the finger with infrared light is difficult to separate the image background and the blood vessel pattern, and the detection time is increased because the image preprocessing process is performed. For this purpose, the presented algorithm can be performed without image preprocessing, and the detection time can be reduced. SWDA (Down Slope Trace Waveform) algorithm is applied to the finger vein images to detect the fingertip position and vein pattern. Because of the low infrared transmittance, relatively dark vein images can be detected with minimal detection error. In addition, the fingertip position can be used as a reference in the classification stage to compensate the decrease in the recognition rate. If we apply algorithms proposed to various recognition fields such as palm and wrist, it is expected that it will contribute to improvement of biometric feature detection accuracy and reduction of recognition performance time.

Synthesis and Physical Properties of Ophthalmic Copolymer Containing 4-fluorostyrene (4-Fluorostyrene을 포함하는 안의료용 고분자 합성 및 물리적 특성)

  • This study used 4-fluorostyrene with the cross-linker EGDMA (ethylene glycol dimethacrylate), HEMA (2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate) and the initiator AIBN (azobisisobutyronitrile) for copolymerization. Measurement of the physical properties of the copolymerized polymer showed that the water content was 19.98 ~ 31.08%, refractive index 1.443 ~ 1.475, visible transmittance 87 ~ 93% and tensile strength 0.246 ~ 0.311 kgf while the contact angle showed a distribution between $54.14^{\circ}$ and $66.95^{\circ}$. Therefore, the ophthalmic material produced using 4-fluorostyrene satisfied the basic physical properties required for contact lenses and also showed an increase in wettability and refractive index while having no significant change in water content with relation to styrene. Based on the results of this study, the produced copolymer is suitable for use as a material to high refractive index and wettability contact lenses.

A Comparison Study on Physicochemical Properties of Two Small Red Bean ( Black and Red ) Starches and Gels (거두와 적두전분의 이화학적 특성 및 Gel 특성에 관한 연구)

  • This study has been carried out in order to investigate the physicochemical properties of two small red bean starches. Some of rheological properties of the starch gels were also studied by experiments of various starch concentrations. Water binding capacity of black bean starch was 172.3% and that of red bean starch was 199.0%. Black bean starch had lower swelling power than red bean starch, but the solubility of the black bean starch was higher. When the temperature increased from 60$^{\circ}C$ to 70$^{\circ}C$, the transmittance of two starches rapidly increased. The gelatinized temperature in DSC for black bean was 66.2$^{\circ}C$ and that for red bean was 66.0$^{\circ}C$. Black bean and red bean starches had the blue vlaues of 0.55 and 0.56 and the alkali numbers of 4.40 and 4.13. The molecular weight of amylose was 40,000 and 33,611. The amylose contents of two starches were same at 52%. Brabender Amylographs of two small red bean starch pastes showed C pattern, which is stable. The results of compression test pointed out that TPA parameters varied with the change of storage time, and black bean starch gels had the higher TPA value. The retrogradation study by glucoamylase digestion method revealed that red bean starch gels were more easily retrogradated than black bean. X-ray diffraction patterns of two small red bean starches were A pattern, and diffraction peaks disappeared with gelatinization of starches.
