Improvement of EEG-Based Drowsiness Detection System Using Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT를 적용한 EEG 기반 졸음 감지 시스템의 성능 향상)

  • Since electroencephalogram(EEG) has non-linear and non-stationary properties, it is effective to analyze the characteristic of EEG with time-frequency method rather than spectrum method. In this letter, we propose the modified drowsiness detection system using discrete wavelet transform combined with errors-in-variables and multilayer perceptron methods. For the comparison of the proposed scheme with the previous one, the state 'others' is added to the previous states of drivers: 'alertness,' 'transition,' and 'drowsiness.' From the computer simulation using machine learning, we confirm that the proposed scheme outperforms the previous one for some conditions.

P-Waves and T-Wave Detection Algorithm in the ECG Signals Using Step-by-Step Baseline Alignment (단계별 기저선 정렬을 이용한 ECG 신호에서 P파와 T파 검출 알고리즘)

  • The detection of P-waves and T-wave in the electrocardiogram signal analysis is an important issue. But the accuracy of the boundary detection algorithm is an insufficient level in the change of slow transition in the signal compared to the QRS complex. This study proposes an algorithm to detect P-wave and T-wave sequentially after determining local baseline using QRS complex. First, we detected the peak points based on local baseline and determined the onset and offset through the calculation of the area of the section. After modifying the baseline using detected waveform, we detected the other waveform in the same way and separated the P-wave and the T-wave based on the location. We used the PhysioNet QT database to evaluate the performances of the algorithm, and calculate the mean and the standard deviations. The experiment results show that standard deviations are under the tolerances accepted by expert physicians, and outperform the results obtained by the other algorithms.

  • This paper presents an efficient Markov feature extraction method for detecting splicing forged images. The Markov states used in our method are composed of the difference between DCT coefficients in the adjacent blocks. Various first-order Markov state transition probabilities are extracted as features for splicing detection. In addition, we propose a feature reduction algorithm by analysing the distribution of the Markov probability. After training the extracted feature vectors using the SVM classifier, we determine whether the presence of the image splicing forgery. Experimental results verify that the proposed method shows good detection performance with a smaller number of features compared to existing methods.

  • Nowadays, image manipulation is enormously popular and easier than ever with tons of convenient images editing tools. After several simple operations, users can get visually attractive images which easily trick viewers. In this paper, we propose a fast algorithm which can detect the image splicing using the Markov features. The proposed algorithm reduces the computational complexity by removing unnecessary Markov features which are not used in the image splicing detection process. The performance of the proposed algorithm is evaluated using a famous image splicing dataset which is publicly available. The experimental results show that the proposed technique outperforms the state-of-the-art splicing detection methods.

An Optochemical Sensor for the Determination of Divalent Transition Metal Ions Based on a Reactive Dye (반응성 염료를 이용한 2가 전이금속 측정용 광센서)

  • A reactive dye synthesized with an amine containing Eriochrome Black T derivative and cynauric chloride was immobilized on a cellulose membrane to construct an optical sensor for the detection of divalent transition metal ions in aqueous solution. The response of this reactive dye-based optical sensor was as sensitive as that of Eriochrome Black T in solution phase. Its typical detection limits for $Zn^{2+}$ and $Co^{2+}$ were $6.3{\times}10^{-5}mol/l$ and $2.5{\times}10^{-4}mol/l$, respectively. No loss in the sensitivity of reactive dye-based sensor was observed even the pH of flowing solutions continually varied for an extended period of time.

  • In this paper, an algorithm using wavelet transform for detecting a cut that is a radical scene transition point, and fade and dissolve that are gradual scene transition points is proposed. The conventional methods using wavelet transform for this purpose is using features in both spatial and frequency domain. But in the proposed algorithm, the color space of an input image is converted to YUV and then luminance component Y is transformed in frequency domain using 2-level lifting. Then, the histogram of only low frequency subband that may contain some spatial domain features is compared with the previous one. Edges obtained from other higher bands can be divided into global, semi-global and local regions and the histogram of each edge region is compared. The experimental results show the performance improvement of about 17% in recall and 18% in precision and also show a good performance in fade and dissolve detection.

A Design of Viterbi Decoder by State Transition Double Detection Method for Mobile Communication (상태천이 이중검색방식의 이동통신용 Viterbi 디코더 설계)

  • In digital mobile communication systems, the convolutional coding is considered as the optimum error correcting scheme. Recently, the Viterbi algorithm is widely used for the decoding of convolutional code. Most Viterbi decoder has been proposed in conde rate R=1/2 or 2/3 with memory components (m) less than 3. which degrades the error correcting capability because of small code constraints (K). We consider the design method for typical code rate R=1/2, K=7(171,133) convolutional code with memory components, m=6. In this paper, a novel construction method is presented which combines maximum likelihood decoding with a state transition double detection and comparison method. And the designed circuit has the error-correcting capability of random 2 bit error. As the results of logic simulation, it is shown that the proposed Viterbi decoder exactly corrects 1 bit and 2 bit error signal.

Limitations of Spectrogram Analysis for Smartphone Voice Recording File Forgery Detection (스마트폰 음성 녹음 파일 위변조 검출을 위한 스펙트로그램 분석의 한계점)

  • As digital information is readily available to everyone today, the adoption of digital evidence is increasing. However, it is virtually impossible to determine the authenticity of forgery in the case of a voice recording file that has gone through a sophisticated editing process along with the spread of various voice file editing tools. This study aims to prove that forgery, which is difficult to distinguish from the original file, is possible by using insertion, deletion, linking, and synthetic editing technologies in voice recording files. This study presents the difficulty of detecting forgery by encoding a forged voice file with the same extension as the original. In addition, it was shown that forgery detection is impossible if additional transition band deletion and secondary encoding are performed only for experiments in which features occurred. Through this, this study is expected to contribute to the establishment of more stringent evidence admissibility criteria for adopting voice recording files as digital evidence.

  • At present the electric power industry in Korea is going through a major restructuring process. The restructuring is motivated by a desire to reduce electricity supply costs, to attract new in-vestment in modern generation, transmission and distribution facilities, and to stimulate innovation in the wholesale production and the retail supply of electricity. The experience to date shows that restructuring of electric power industry in the US, however, is marred with a number of problematic market performances including unreasonably high prices at wholesale. This paper investigates the important role of Power Exchange for stabilizing electric power industry in transition by offering various financial products. These financial products are used for risk hedging by the market participants. The paper focuses on the risk hedging by an individual supplier and derives an explicit decision rule that incorporates the attitude towards the risks. In addition to providing the financial products for risk hedging by market participants, the Power Exchange plays another very important role of financial safeguard system. Because of its unique characteristics, the Power Exchange is well suited for financial surveillance where it performs the early detection of unsound financial (and to a large extent operational) practices on the part of any system users and protect the system integrity and the market participants from the consequences of a default in the clearing structure.

Syntheses and Ion Selectivities of Dimeric Rhodamine 6G Chemosensors

  • Novel rhodamine 6G fluorescent chemosensors 1 and 2 for the detection of transition metal cations were synthesized through the condensation of rhodamine 6G ethylenediamine with each of 2-hydroxy-1-naphthaldehyde and 2,6-pyridinedicarbaldehyde, respectively. 1 and 2 were characterized using $^{13}C$ NMR, $^1H$ NMR and mass spectroscopy. Fluorometric and colorimetric measurements involving various metal ions revealed the ring opening of the rhodamine 6G spirocycle framework. In the absence of metal cations, 2 was colorless and non-fluorescent, whereas the addition of metal cations ($Hg^{2+}$ and others) changed the color to pink, accompanied by the appearance of an orange fluorescence. The chemosensors exhibited high selectivity for $Hg^{2+}$ over other divalent first-row transition metals. The complexes of $Hg^{2+}$ with 1 and 2 were successfully isolated. A huge enhancement in the fluorescence for both one- and two-photon excitations makes these compounds suitable candidates to be used for fluorescent labeling of biological systems.
