  • Along with the popularity of GPS system and smart cell phone, trajectories of pedestrians or vehicles are recorded at any time. The great amount of works had been carried out in order to discover traffic paradigms or other regular patterns buried in the huge trajectory dataset. The core of the mining algorithm is how to evaluate the similarity, that is, the "distance", between trajectories appropriately, then the mining results will be accordance to the reality. Euclidean distance is commonly used in the lots of existed algorithms to measure the similarity, however, the trend of trajectories is usually ignored during the measurement. In this paper, a novel segment transform distance (STD) algorithm is proposed, in which a rule system of line segment transformation is established. The similarity of two-line segments is quantified by the cost of line segment transformation. Further, an improvement of STD, named ST-DTW, is advanced with the use of the traditional method dynamic time warping algorithm (DTW), accelerating the speed of calculating STD. The experimental results show that the error rate of ST-DTW algorithm is 53.97%, which is lower than that of the LCSS algorithm. Besides, all the weights of factors could be adjusted dynamically, making the algorithm suitable for various kinds of applications.

  • This paper presents a decomposition method to evaluate the performance measures of the serial production lines with unreliable machines and finite buffers. This method is to decompose the transfer line into a set of two machine lines for analysis. Bases on this approximation method, we consider nonhomogeneous lines. In such lines, the machines may take the different lengths of time performing operations on parts. A new transformation is employed in order to replace the line by a homogeneous line. The approximate transformation enables one to determine parameters of performance such as production rate and average buffer levels, and it also shows better application for a large class of systems.

  • This paper presents steady state analysis of single-phase line-start motor. 2-phase motor transformation is performed to consider the different specifications between main and auxiliary windings. The symmetrical coordinates transformation is applied to solve the unbalanced magnetic field. The validity of analysis method is verified by comparing to experiments.

  • Unbalanced systems, such as distribution systems, have difficulties in fault locations due to single-phase laterals and loads. This paper proposes new fault locations developed by the direct three-phase circuit analysis algorithms using matrix inverse lemma for the line-to-ground fault case and the line-to-line fault case in unbalanced systems. The fault location for balanced systems has been studied using the current distribution factor, by a conventional symmetrical transformation, but that for unbalanced systems has not been investigated due to their high complexity. The proposed algorithms overcome the limit of the conventional algorithm using the conventional symmetrical transformation, which requires the balanced system and are applicable to any power system but are particularly useful for unbalanced distribution systems. Their effectiveness has been proven through many EMTP simulations.

  • Establishment of immortalized human dermal papilla cells (DPCs) retaining the characteristics of DPCs would be a great help for hair researchers. We recently established a simian virus 40T (SV40T)-transformed human DP cell line (SV40TDPC). However, the cell line senesced around passage 25 and ceased proliferation. In this study, we introduced the human telomerase reverse transcriptase (hTERT) gene into SV40T-DPC and established an immortalized human DP cell line. The cell line, SV40T-hTERT-DPC, did not induce tumors when inoculated into nude mice. SV40T-hTERT-DPC maintained morphology of early passage DPCs, expressed markers of DPCs, and retained responses to Wnt/${\beta}$-catenin and bone morphogenic protein (BMP) signaling pathways known to be required for hair-inducing activity of DPCs. The data strongly suggest that SV40T-hTERT-DPC retains many characteristics of human DPCs in vivo without malignant transformation.

  • In this study, the mechanical properties of 80% cold-rolled austenitic 316L stainless steel were evaluated using specimens subjected to reverse transformation at 500-750℃ for 20 minutes and reverse transformation at 700℃ for 2-60 minutes. Also, for the elastic wave obtained from the tensile test, the dominant frequency according to the reverse transformation condition was investigated by time-frequency analysis. The SEM image of the 80% cold-rolled material was transformed into martensite and showed line and cross shapes. The TEM image showed that line shapes were shown at the grain, and grain boundary of martensite. The higher the heat treatment temperature and the longer time, the larger the grain. Tensile strength decreased as the heat treatment temperature and time increased, but elongation increased. Hardness was proportional to tensile strength. This is because the grain with different directions showed the same direction due to reverse transformation. The dominant frequency was decreased and then increased as the temperature and time increased. This is because the direction of the grain is different at a low temperature and the same direction is shown at a high temperature.

  • Spatially resolved liquid volume fractions from a set of line-of-sight laser diffraction measurements for axisymmetric sprays generated from a pintle-type gasoline injector have been tomographically reconstructed by Abel transformation, Fourier transformation and onion peeling method. Spatially resolved liquid volume fractions classified into 32 size groups were translated characteristics of SI engine fuel sprays. These data were also obtained from the phase Doppler measurements for the same sprays. The comparison between laser deffraction measurements and transformation reconstructs more reasonable spatially resolved characteristics for axisymmetric sprays as well as for asymmetric sprays.

  • The metallurgical transformation ratios of metals have been evaluated by the eddy current method. Eddy current probes have been designed and applied to various standard samples. The equivalent impedance estimated from the eddy current measurement is closely related to the variation of transformation ratios in metals. It has been found that the variation of the impedance is relatively large in the samples where the transformation ratios of the samples are small. Both reactance and resistance increase when the transformation ratio is large. Sensitivities of eddy current test is increased with increasing frequencies and by inserting ferrite core the solenoid eddy probe. Our results have shown the implementation of eddy current measurement to the one-line nondestructive testing of metals.

  • Pax6, a member of the highly conserved homeobox gene family, is known to be expressed in spatially and temporally restricted pattern during embryogenesis. To examine the spatial expression pattern of Pax6 in malaria vector mosquito Anopheles stephemi, in different molecular environment, the germ line transformation technique using piggyBac transposon combined with the use of Pax6 specific 3xp3-EGFP marker was utilized. Four transgenic lines with a transformation rate of 6.7% were established. Transgenes were stably expressed in subsequent several generations. The transgenic lines showed 3 different expression pattern with spatial specificity, possibly due to enhancing and/or silencing position effects. In two transgenic lines, noble expression pattern of Pax6 was observed in the region that has not been previously reported in any animal species. The results show that the tranposon piggyBac mediated germ line transformation system can be used as an efficient tool for the generation of diverse spatially restricted reporter gene expression.
