  • The objective of this study was to improve the efficiency of bovine embryo transfer by transferring of Hanwoo embryos into Hanwoo or Holstein recipients. The cryopreserved or fresh in vitro produced(IVP) embryos were transferred into uterine horn contralaterally or ipsilaterally to the corpus luteum. The recipients were inseminated by artificially on the next day of estrus. The pregnancy was diagnosed by rectal palpation at 60∼90 days after transfer of the embryos. The pregnancy rate by transfer of one or two embryos was 78%(7/9) and 74%(31/42), respectively. The pregnancy rates according to the grade of corpus lutea of recipients was 75% (20/27) and 82.0%(18/22) at the grade of A and B, respectively. Ten(67.0%) of 15 Holstein recipients transferred with IVP Hanwoo embryos and 5(42.0%) of 12 Holstein recipients transferred with frozen IVP Hanwoo embryos were pregnant. The single and twin calving ratio in Hanwoos was 77.0%(10/13) and 23.0%(3.13) in the recipients transferred with IVP embryos and 64.0%(7/10) and 27.0%(3/10) in the recipients transferred with frozen IVP embryos, respectively. Twenty-four pregnant cows following transfer of IVP embryos, 21(88.0%) calved the normal calves, and 2(8.3%) aborted. When the frozen IVP embryos were transferred, 16 pregnant cows calved 14(88.0%) normal calves and 2(13.0%) aborted. In conclusion, when one or two IVP bovine embryos were transferred into recipients, the A and B grade of corpus luteum resulted in high pregnancy rates. For the production of twin calves, transfer of the IVP or frozen IVP embryos could be suitable.

  • To determine whether the tetracycline resistance genes tet (34), tet (M), and tet (S) can be transferred among bacteria, we used a filter mating experiment allowing intimate cell-cell contact between donor and recipient. The tet(34) gene, conveyed on a chromosome of Vibrio species (No. 6 and SW-42) was not transferred to Escherichia coli JM109, suggesting that it is not transferred among bacterial species. The tet (M) gene was transferred from three Vibrio strains (4-E, SW-18, and SW-38) to E. coli at frequencies of $8.5{\times}10^{-5}\;to\;2.1{\times}10^{-6}$. The tet(S) gene was transferred from Lactococcus garvieae KHS98032 to E. coli at a frequency of $1.8{\times}10^{-6}$. Transconjugated recipients showed increased minimum inhibitory concentrations against oxytetracycline. Although the donors possess the Tn916-Tn1545 transposons, they were not detected in transformed recipients, suggesting that the transfer of tet(M) and tet(S) is mediated by elements or mechanisms. Two ribosomal protect protein genes were also transmissible from marine bacteria to E. coli, suggesting gene hopping among marine, terrestrial, and human environments.

  • Main Issue of Supreme Court Decision 2005Da16713 Delivered on June 24, 2005 is about the duty of medical care in the interhospital transfer of patients. According to the above Supreme Court Decision, in the interhospital transfer of patients, the decision to transfer should make from the aspect of medical treatment. The hospitals and doctors keep the duty of medical care. In addition to the duty for hospitals/doctors to check the capacity and availability of the hospital to which the patient is transferred, there are also duties to inform about emergency medical service and to sufficiently explain the need for the transfer, the medical conditions of the patient to be transferred and the hospital from which the patient is transferred. The hospital to which the patient is transferred must be thoroughly informed about matters such as the patient's conditions, the treatment the patient was given and reasons for transfer. including information upon referral, completeness of medical records, patient monitoring and so on. The interhospital transfer requires the consent of doctor belonging to the hospital to which the patient is transferred after the consideration of capacity and availability of the hospital and the informed consent of patients or legal representatives.

  • In this paper, we perform a mechanism anlysis and optyimal designof the feeding system in a industrial sewing machine. Sewing machines are classified by the transfer mechanism as (1) transferred by feed dog only (2) transferred by feed dog and needle (3) transferred by feed dog, needle and pressure bar. We took the dewing machine classified as (2) which is more efficient in transferring the clothes than the machine classified as (1). In analyzing the mechanism, we divide the feeding mechanism as feed dog mechanism and needle bar mechanism. The two mechanisms are connected with each other kinematically because the clothes are transferred by needle and feed dog simultaneously and stitched by needle which pass through the feed dog in every stitchcycle. We define good stitch as coincidence of stitch between the forward and reverse motion of feeding. And we optimize feeding mechanism for that purpose. It is illustrated that stitching performance of the optimized mechanism is compared to original feeding mechanism.

  • Rice callus was treated with 0.56M sucrose solution mixed with 5% pectinase and 10% cellulase, and the protoplasts isolated were transferred to 0.25 M sodium nitrate to induce protoplasmic fusion. Callus tissues were macerated well and degradation of cell walls also proceeded satisfactorily. When the protoplasts were transferred to sodium nitrate solution, many giant roundish protoplasts and some multilobed complex protoplasmic bodies were observed. Most of the fusions took place immediately after the protoplasts were transferred to sodium nitrate. Some multilobed protoplasts which failed to fuse in the initial stage took longer time, about two hours, to get completely fused and rounded-off. Multilobed protoplasmic bodies were invariably multinucleate, while giant round protoplasts had either several nuclei or had one nucleus of large size. Nuclear fusion, also, seemed to occur immediately after the protoplasts were transferred to sodium nitrate.

  • Graphene is a monolayer of carbon atoms (approximately 0.34 nm), arranged in a honeycomb network. It has been hailed as a next-generation flexible and transparent material because it has high electrical and thermal conductivities, excellent mechanical properties, as well as flexible and transparent properties. The wettability of graphene alters its adhesion or surface energy, and it is therefore an important parameter influencing its application in the fabrication of next-generation flexible and transparent electronics. Studies on the wettability of graphene are numerous and various opinions exist. However, almost all of these studies use the wet transfer method to transfer the graphene. In this study, therefore, we investigated the effect of wet and dry transfer methods on water contact angles of graphene on a substrate. The contact angles of substrates vary depending on the type of substrate. It was found that after graphene is transferred to the substrate, regardless of transfer method, the graphene/substrate contact angle increases to a value. The contact angle of graphene transferred using the dry transfer method is higher than the contact angle of graphene transferred using wet transfer methods. The wet transferred graphene is affected by the poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) residue and the polar surface of substrate. The dry transferred graphene is influenced by the conformal contact between graphene and substrate.

  • This study was carried out to collect the basic data about gestation lengths and offspring's birth weights and sex ratio of the dairy recipients transferred with Hanwoo IVF embryos. Blastocysts cultured for $7{\sim}8$ days were transferred to 96 and 167 heads for the basic data about gestation length and offspring's birth weight and sex ratio of the dairy recipients, respectively. The gestation lengths of the dairy recipients transferred with Hanwoo IVF embryos were $287.3{\pm}11.2$ ($257{\sim}311$) and $284.1{\sim}7.7$ ($266{\sim}295$) days in male and female of the offspring, respectively. The gestation lengths of the recipients were $290.7{\pm}10.4$, $285.8{\pm}3.4$, $280.0{\pm}9.3$ and $286.1{\pm}7.9$ days in spring, summer, autumn and winter of the calving season, respectively, and were significantly different among the calving season (p<0.05). The birth weights of male and female calves were $25.5{\pm}2.4$ ($21{\sim}30$) and $26.3{\pm}3.9$ ($21{\sim}40$ kg in offsprings of the dairy recipients transferred with Hanwoo IVF embryos, respectively. The sex ratio was 90.7 in the offsprings of the dairy recipients transferred with Hanwoo IVF embryos.

  • Background: This study aimed to identify patterns of elderly patients who transferred from long-term care hospitals to emergency rooms and provide the evidence of emergency medical systems to prepare for a super-aged society. Methods: The data source was the National Emergency Department Information System database from January 2014 to December 2019 in Korea. We performed a cross-sectional study among elderly patients (≥65 years) who transferred from a long-term care hospital to an emergency room. Trend analysis was conducted by year. Results: We identified 225,765 elderly patients who were transferred from long-term care hospitals to emergency rooms between January 1, 2014 and December 31, 2019. The proportion of the study population and their mean age were recently increased (p<0.001, respectively). The proportion of elderly patients being re-transferred (p=0.049) and the patients re-transferred to long-term care hospitals is significantly increased (p=0.005). Conclusion: The establishment of efficient emergency medical services for an aging society is important. It is necessary to develop a healthcare network with the government, long-term care hospitals, and medical institutions in the community suitable for preventing disease deterioration.

  • Objective: This study compared the prognosis of patients who visited the trauma center directly (direct visit group) with those transferred from the non-trauma center (transferred group). Methods: The patients, who were 18 or older with Injury Severity Score of 15 or more in the trauma center at Busan, were studied from October 2015 to October 2016. To compare the treatment time between the direct visit and transferred group, first treatment time, final treatment time, and time to visit the trauma center were examined. To compare the prognosis, this study compared the 48-hour, 7-day, and in-hospital mortality rate as well as the duration of intensive care unit (ICU) and total hospital stay. To analyze the factors affecting the outcome of transferred group, the physician's level and procedures that had been performed at the non-trauma center were examined. Results: The mortality was similar in the direct visit and transferred group (48-hour 7.6% vs. 4.6%, P=0.111; 7-day 11.1% vs. 7.2%, P=0.89; and in-hospital 14.6% vs. 11.3%, P=0.214). The length of ICU and total hospital stay were similar in the two groups. The mortality was higher in the patients in the transferred group when using intubation, transfusion, and pressure intensifier. The intubated patients showed higher mortality according to logistic regression. Conclusion: The mortality, length of ICU, and hospital stay were similar but the time to visit the trauma center and the final treatment time were longer in transferred group. Stabilizing the patient at the near non-trauma center may be more helpful for some patients.
