The circulation flows passing through the Ekman boundary layer on the rotating disk and transfer the angular momentum into the interior region of the container. Consequently, the circulation enhances the momentum transfer and the interior fluid is divided by a propagating shear front. This investigation focuses on computer vision and image processing technique for analysis of Non-Newtonian Fluids. To visualize marching velocity shear front for the transient flow, a particular shaped particles and light are used. To validate the proposed method, quantitative image are compared with the optical data acquired by a direct measurement of LDV (Laser Doppler Velocimetry).
Wireless Session Protocol(WSP) which was updated and supplemented based on HyperText Transfer Protocol(HTTP) was designed by Wireless Application Protocol(WAP) forum regarding the characteristics of wireless environment. WSP improved the performance in wireless network, and introduced various facilities considering wireless environment. In this paper, we more improve the performance of WSP adding protocol message compression capability; we cail improved WSP protocol as WSP+. And, we analysis the performance of each protocol with WSP and WSP+ implementation. As a result of experiment, the capability which proposed in this paper reduced a response traffic about 45%. In $10^{-4}$ bit error rate, we also found the packet loss rate and time delay per transaction of WSP+ was improved over 40%. Finally, we found that the protocol message compression capability reduces message retransmission count in transaction layer and shorten the delay time per transaction by reducing a message size.

The various techniques proposed previously to obtain a good antireflection(AR) coating induce a scattering of incident light by nanoparticles or control the refractive index by using different materials. This paper compares a suggested graded index profile with the quintic index profile previously suggested for producing an index profile that gives good performance from an AR coating. We assume the structure of the AR coating has three, six, and nine layers with 180 nm total thickness. The wavelength of incident light ranges from 300 nm to 1100 nm. We use the transfer matrix theory for a single layer to obtain the reflectivity of three, six, and nine layers. The reflectivity of two different index profiles with three, six, and nine layers is compared. As a result, the suggested graded index profile shows lower reflectivity than the quintic index profile with three layers, especially in the wavelength range from about 600 nm to 1100 nm. Therefore, we expect that these results can be applied to optical devices and filters in the range from visible(red) to near infrared.
The micro emulsion method has been successfully used for preparing perovskite LaCoO3 with uniform, fine-shaped nanoparticles showing high activity as electro catalysts in oxygen reduction reactions (ORRs). They are, therefore, promising candidates for the air-cathode in metal-air rechargeable batteries. Since the activity of a catalyst is highly dependent on its specific surface area, nanoparticles of the perovskite catalyst are desirable for catalyzing both oxygen reduction and evolution reactions. Herein, LaCoO3 powder was also prepared by sol-gel method for comparison, with a broad particle distribution and high agglomeration. The electro catalytic properties of LaCoO3 and LaCoO3-carbon Super P mixture layers toward the ORR were studied comparatively using the rotating disk electrode technique in 0.1 M KOH electrolyte to elucidate the effect of carbon Super P. Koutecky-Levich theory was applied to acquire the overall electron transfer number (n) during the ORR, calculated to be ~3.74 for the LaCoO3-Super P mixture, quite close to the theoretical value (4.0), and ~2.7 for carbon-free LaCoO3. A synergistic effect toward the ORR is observed when carbon is present in the LaCoO3 layer. Carbon is assumed to be more than an additive, enhancing the electronic conductivity of the oxide catalyst. It is suggested that ORRs, catalyzed by the LaCoO3-Super P mixture, are dominated by a 2+2-electron transfer pathway to form the final, hydroxyl ion product.

This paper proposes the architecture and protocol of a data communication network for the safety system in nuclear power plants. First, we establish four design criteria with respect to determinability, reliability, separation and isolation, and verification/validation. Next we construct the architecture of the safety network for the following systems: PPS (Plant Protection System), ESF-CCS (Engineered Safety Features-Component Control System) and CPCS (Core Protection Calculator System). The safety network consists of 12 sub-networks and takes the form of a hierarchical star. Among 163 communication nodes are about 1600 origin-destination (OD) pairs created on their traffic demands. The OD pairs are allowed to exchange data only during the pre-assigned time slots. Finally, the communication protocol is designed in consideration of design factors for the safety network. The design factors include a network topology of star, fiber-optic transmission media, synchronous data transfer mode, point-to-point link configuration, and a periodic transmission schedule etc. The resulting protocol is the modification of IEEE 802.15.4 (LR-WPAN) MAC combined with IEEE 802.3 (Fast Ethernet) PHY. The MAC layer of IEEE 802.15.4 is simplified by eliminating some unnecessary (unctions. Most importantly, the optional TDMA-like scheme called the guaranteed time slot (GTS) is changed to be mandatory to guarantee the periodic data transfer. The proposed protocol is formally specified using the SDL. By performing simulations and validations using Telelogic Tau SDL Suite, we find that the proposed safety protocol fits well with the characteristics and the requirements of the safety system in nuclear power plants.
Steady-state anodic and cathodic polarization curves were developed for the Al electrode in 60 mole %$AlCl_3$-40 mole % NaCl at $180^{\circ}C$$453^{\circ}K$). Ohmic resistance contributed substantially to the anodic polarization at current densities greater than 50 mA/$CM^2$ even with capillary tip placed close to the electrode. This could not be rationalized from the resistivity of the melt, which would lead to a much smaller polarization. It was therefore concluded that a layer of high resistance $AlCl_3$ (or $AlCl_3$-rich melt) formed close to the anode surface. From the IR-corrected anodic Tafel and Allen-Hickling plots an apparent anodic charge-transfer coefficient of ${\alpha}_a$ = (2.3 RT/F)(d log i/d${\eta}$) = $1.5{\pm}0.25$ was obtained. At cathodic current densities greater than approximately 30 mA/$cm^2$, slow ion diffusion and dendrite growth both interfered with the measurement of kinetic parameters.

In this paper, a CCSDS(Consultative Committee for Space Data Systems) telecommand(TC) decryptor for the security of geostationary communications satellite was implemented. For the confidentiality of CCSDS TC datalink security, Option-A which implements the security services below the transfer sublayer was selected. Also CFB(Cipher Feedback) operation mode of DES(Data Encryption Standard) was used for the encryption of 56-bit data bits in 64-bit codeblock. To verify Decryptor function, the DES CFB logic implemented on A54SX32 FPGA(Field Programmable Gate Array) was integrated with interface and control logics in a PCB(Printed Circuit Board). Using a function test PC, the encrypted codeblocks were generated, transferred into the decryptor, decrypted, and the decrypted codeblocks were transmitted to the function test PC, and then compared with the source codeblocks. Through LED(Light Emitting Diode) ON operation by driving the relay related to Op-code decoded and the comparison between the codeblock output waveforms measured and those simulated, the telecommand decryptor function was verified.

A lot of works have been dedicated to clarify the reasons why the establishment of embryonic stem cells (ESCs) from pig is more difficult than that from mouse and human. Several concomitant factors such as culture condition including feeder layer, sensitivity of cell to cell contact, definitive markers of pluripotency for evaluation of the validity and optimal timing of derivation have been suggested as the disturbing factors in the establishment of porcine ESCs Traditionally, attempts to derive stem cells from porcine embryos have depend on protocols established for mouse ESCs using inner cell mass (ICM) for the isolation and culture. And more recently, protocols used for primate ESCs were also applied. However, there is no report for the establishment of porcine ESCs. Indeed, ungulate species including pigs have crucial developmental differences unlike rodents and primates. Here we will review recent studies about issues for establishment of porcine ESCs and discuss the promise and strategies focusing on the timing for derivation and pluripotent state of porcine ESCs.

Design methods for new flexible pavements and overlays are in the transition from empirical to mechanistic approach, and many state highway agencies trend to move toward the adoption and use of mechanistic-empirical (M-E) design in new constructions and rehabilitations of flexible pavements. Hence, the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) decided to develop a M-E flexible pavement design procedure, in which major pavement distresses such as fatigue cracking and rutting are employed as indicators of the serviceability of a flexible pavement. The main concept of the developed design procedure is that a designed pavement that is supposed to carry a certain number of traffic must satisfy designated thresholds of rut depths and fatigue lives during a service period. For the M-E design procedure, transfer functions were developed to predict rut-depths and fatigue lives. These functions related the pavement responses to pavement performance. For validation, three current new flexible pavement design cases were obtained from the MDOT. In these cases, asphalt concrete (AC) layer thicknesses determined by the suggested M-E procedure compare favorably with those determined by the current MDOT design practice that is based on AASHTO design guide. This finding implies that the suggested Michigan M-E flexible pavement design procedure can provide a good opportunity to improve the current design practice.

This study introduces and analyzes the geothermal energy availability in Non-active volcanic region. Jeju island in Korea is situated in non-active volcanic region. The island is composed of rock with high pore and clinker, scoria geological layer formed by volcanic activity about two million ago. Volcanic geological layers with porous characteristics have air, vapor, water and a underground structure through which air or water can move easily. For this reason, it is probable that the mechanism of energy acquisition is by convective heat transfer. For this presumption, the availability of underground air as energy source has been studied here through theoretical analysis and experimental data. The energy output of our system ranged from 2,485,076 kJ/day to 4,060,978 kJ/day monitored using variable velocity air flow controller. Our system has capability to be a reliable energy source irrespective of environmental changes. Consequently, underground air can be utilized for energy source and provide the optimal design of heating/cooling system.
