A general active RC network synthesis procedure which realizes any stable transfer function is described. The network elements are only R's, C's and OA's, and the network configuration are well suited for construction using thin-film RC networks and integrated cil'suit operational amplifiers. Poles and transmission zeros can be adjusted independently to each other and are qu;te insensitive to element variations.

In this paper, the synthesis of distributed impedance transformers is presented that is essential for power divider design, whereby a broadband power divider is designed. Transfer functions of distributed transformers are synthesized with Chebyshev approximation, and their element values are calculated for various minimum insertion losses(MIL) and ripples. Desired performance of transformers is obtained by optimizing MIL's and ripples of a transfer function. As an application example, a four-way power divider is designed that operates over 2 to 8GHz frequency range. Experimental results are shown to approach the design performance, so transformer design by distributed network synthesis proves to be useful to power divider design.

An output multiplexer of manifold type is widely used in a recent satellite transponder for its mass and volume reduction. For correct operation, the filters of such a multiplexer must be singly terminated. In this paper, a simple synthesis method of a 6-pole dual-mode singly-terminated filter is described. From the transfer function of the filter, network parameters such as in/output terminations and coupling coefficients are obtained easily without complicated matrix algebra such as orthogonal projection and similarity transformation. Two different-structure filters are taken into consideration and the network parameters of each filter have been extracted from the same transfer function. It is shown that the responses of two filters are same to each other since their network parameters are obtained from the same transfer function. The method described in this paper can be applied to the other degree singly terminated filter.

This paper presents an efficient method to analyze noise and vibration of marine diesel engines mounted on flexible hull structure. The analysis model should in general include the hull structure, leading to lots of computational efforts. To minimize the computational efforts, in this paper, the transfer synthesis utilizing the receptance at the mounting points is proposed. The procedure is then verified by comparing the results with those from the full model calculation. The effects of flexible hull structure on the acoustic power from engine block are finally investigated. It is found that the effect of the hull is significant when the receptance of hull structure is similar to or greater than that of mount or engine block.
Vibration test fixture is used in random vibration control testing. The specified reference spectrum should be transmitted equally to the specimen attachment points on the fixture. In most practical cases, however, spectrum at each of specimen attachment points may be quite different from the specified reference spectrum because of the dynamic characteristics of vibration test fixture. This paper proposes the method of experimental dynamic modification of fixture system for vibration test so that the reference spectrum can be transmitted to the specimen attachment points without distortion. The stiffness of mounts of specimen and the thickness of fixture are considered as design variables. The frequency response functions of specimen used for input data are obtained from vibration testing, and the frequency response functions of fixture are obtained from finite element modeling. The sensitivities of frequency response functions at specimen attachment points to the mount stiffness are derived from synthesis method of transfer function. And the sensitivities to the thickness of fixture are also derived from finite element modeling. The presented method is verified by computer simulation and vibration testing.
Quantitative Feedback Theory (QFT) is one of most effective methods of robust controller design and can be considered as a suitable method for systems with parametric uncertainties. Particularly it allows us to obtain controllers less conservative than other methods like $H_{\infty}$ and ${\mu}$-synthesis. In QFT method, we transform all the uncertainties and desired specifications to some boundaries in Nichols chart and then we have to find the nominal loop transfer function such that satisfies the boundaries and has the minimum high frequency gain. The major drawback of the QFT method is that there is no effective and useful method for finding this nominal loop transfer function. The usual approach to this problem involves loop-shaping in the Nichols chart by manipulating the poles and zeros of the nominal loop transfer function. This process now aided by recently developed computer aided design tools proceeds by trial and error and its success often depends heavily on the experience of the loop-shaper. Thus for the novice and First time QFT user, there is a genuine need for an automatic loop-shaping tool to generate a first-cut solution. In this paper, we approach the automatic QFT loop-shaping problem by using an algorithm involving Linear Programming (LP) techniques and Genetic Algorithm (GA).

In designing the tracking system of an optical disc drive, it is first necessary to eliminate the undesired influence of any visible mechanical vibrations. In this paper a geometrical method to analyze the frequency response of an elastically supported planar rigid body has been presented. Using the theory of screw, a geometrical expression of a compliant transfer function which describes the effects of the locations of an applied force and observation on the response has been derived. Applying the substructure synthesis method, a technique to stabilize the tracking mechanical system has been presented with a numerical example.
In this paper we present a method of determining the unknown degree of any 2D discrete linear shift-invariant system which is characterized only by the coefficients of the double power series of a transfer function, i.e. a 2D impulse response array. Our method is based on a 2D extension of Berlekamp-Massey algorithm for synthesis of linear feedback shift registers, and it gives a novel approach to identification and approximation of 2D linear systems, which can be distinguished in its simplicity and potential of applicability from the other 2D Levinson-type algorithms. Furthermore, we can solve problems of 2D Pade approximation and 2D system reduction on a reasonable assumption in the context of 2D linear systems theory.

In this paper, an alternative method was introduced to conduct a transfer path analysis for airborne noise. The method used the transfer function matrix composed of acoustic transfer functions that are referenced by the input voltage of a calibration source. A calibration factor which is converting a virtual voltage to source strength was deduced by vibro-acoustical reciprocity theorem. The calibration factor is then multiplied to the virtual input voltage to estimate the operational source strength. Three loudspeakers were used to noise sources of acrylic half car model. The method was applied to airborne noise transfer path analysis of the half car. The estimated source strength by transfer path analysis was compared the deduced source strength by vibro-acoustical reciprocity to verify the method.
