Floor inertial forces are transferred to lateral force resisting systems through a diaphragm action during earthquakes. The diaphragm action requires floor slabs to carry in-plane forces. In precast concrete diaphragms, these forces must be carried across the joints between precast floor units as they represent planes of weakness. Therefore, diaphragm reinforcement with sufficient strength and deformability is necessary to ensure the diaphragm action for the floor inertial force transfer. In a shake table test for a three-story precast concrete structure, an unexpected local failure in the diaphragm flexural reinforcement occurred. This failure caused loss of the diaphragm action but did not trigger collapse of the structure due to a possible alternative path for the floor inertial force transfer. This paper investigates this failure event and its impact on structural seismic responses based on the shake table test and simulation results. The simulations were conducted on a structural model with discrete diaphragm elements. The structural model was also validated from the test results. The investigation indicates that additional floor inertial force will be transferred into the gravity columns after loss of the diaphragm action which can further result in the increase of seismic demands in the gravity column and diaphragms in adjacent floors.

This paper presents a feasibility study of a fresh air load reduction system by using an underground double floor space. The fresh air is introduced into the double slab space and passes through the opening bored into the footing beam. The air is cooled by the heat exchange with the inside surface of the double slab space in summer, and heated in winter. This system not only reduces sensible heat load of the fresh air by heat exchange with earth but also reduces latent heat load of the fresh air by ad/de-sorption of underground double slab concrete. In this paper, we used a model for evaluation of fresh air latent heat load reduction by hygroscopic of air to earth exchange system taking into account coupled heat and moisture transfer of underground double floor space. In conclusion it shows the validity of the proposed method for a design tool and the quantitative effect of the system.

The experiments were performed with a $31{\times}31{\times}7mm^3$ simulated 3-dimensional module on the thermal conductive board of a parallel plate channel. The convective thermal conductance for the path from the module surface directly to airflow and conjugate thermal conductance for the path leading from the module to the floor by way of a module support, then, to the airflow were determined with several combinations of module-support-construction(210, 0.32, 0.021 K/W)/floor-material(398, 0.236W/mK) and channel height(15-30mm). As the result, it was found that the conjugate thermal conductance and the temperature distribution around the module depend on the thermal resistance of the module support, and the channel height. These configurations were designed to investigate on the feasibility of using the substrate as an effective heat spreader in the forced convective air-cooling of surface mounted heat source. The experimental results were discussed in the light of interactive nature of heat transfer through two paths, one directed from the module to the airflow and the other via the module support and the floor to the air.
A predictive pulse control strategy as a means of improving the energy efficiency of radiant floor heating systems is explored. Experiments at the apartment with floor heating system are conducted to assess and compare the energy performance of the predictive pulse control strategy with an existing conventional control strategy. The Results showed that new suggested PPCM( Predictive Pulse Control Method) was available to decrease the gap of $1{\sim}1.5^{\circ}C$ between maximum and minimum indoor temperature of each rooms. Therefore PPCM method was favor to radiant floor heating system which have a delay time of 10-20 minutes for heat transfer by floor layers.

The vibrational behavior of a front load washing machine is heavily influenced by the floor stiffness on which the washing machine is installed. In case the floor stiffness is extremely low like a wooden floor (we call it a 'soft floor, S/F'), it is quite probable that a washer's rigid body mode exists in the operating frequency range. In this case, the outer frame vibration level would be very high, but the mitigation scheme is quite limited except the excitation force abatement by acquisition of the optimal inertia in the internal vibratory system and the diaphragm's stiffness with the minimum force transfer.

This study aimed to analyze the deck floor heating system of an outdoor swimming pool in terms of the thermal capacity/output and the surface temperature distribution based on the outdoor temperature, to design for anti-freezing during winter. Through the transient heat transfer simulation with PHYSIBEL and theoretical equations, the surface temperature distribution of the floor heating system at two outdoor conditions in Jeju, were calculated and evaluated. The results indicate that the specific thermal output required for maintaining $4^{\circ}C$ surface temperature at the design outdoor temperature of $0.1^{\circ}C$, was about $90W/m^2$. This performance analysis can be applied for future design criteria, including optimizations of system capacity and size.
This study applied the value of floor-area-ratio standard calculation method to case areas and analyzed them to overcome the limits of previous studies in calculation methods for area standards and land price (value) standard development rights. The results are presented as follows: First, criteria to select sending areas and receiving areas are needed. Second, calculation methods based on the value of floor-area-ratio standard can be widely used as standardized criteria in various areas. Third, for the connection of sending areas with receiving areas, the connections of 1:1, n:1, 1:n, and n:n are available and the location of possible dealing areas should be considered. Also, the choice of connecting unions that meet the purpose of TDR presented by local governments is available. Fourth, for Gwangju, as receiving areas downtown provide higher profits than previous renewal projects, the application of TDR is available. Application methods to overcome problems are presented as follows: First, criteria to select sending and receiving areas should be prepared and implemented in an order of priority. Second, in calculating development rights, methods based on the value of floor-area-ratio standard should be used. Third, the standards and principles of sending and receiving areas should be designated and possible dealing areas should not be limited.
In the summer, the irradiated solar heat gain through the roof has an effect on the thermal environment of the top floor units of apartment houses. This paper investigated the differences of the indoor air temperature and thermal comfort index between the top floor unit and the middle floor unit by measuring them at the sample houses. The purpose of this paper is to provide quantitative data about the irradiated solar heat gain during the summertime through the roof of an apartment house and these data to be the source to reevaluate the appropriate roof insulation efficiency. From this study, we obtained the brief results as follows. Indoor air temperature at the top floor unit is $1.2\sim2.2^{\circ}C$ higher than that of middle floor unit. The evaluation of the indoor thermal comfort index at each sample rooms reveals notable thermal differences between the two units. Top floor units need more cooling load during the summertime compared to middle floor units. Therefore, solutions to reduce solar Heat gain at top floor units to be considered.
An experimental study was performed to investigate adiabatic wall temperature and heat transfer coefficient around on a module with longitudinal fin heat sink cooled by forced air flow. In the first method, inlet air flow(1-7m/s) and input power(3-5W) was varied after a heated module were placed on an adiabatic floor($320{\times}550{\times}1mm^{3}$). An adiabatic wall temperature was determinated to use liquid crystal film(LCF). In the second method to determinate heat transfer coefficient, inlet air flow(1-7m/s) and the heat flux of rubber heater($0.031-0.062\;W/cm^{2}$) was varied after an adiabatic module was placed on rubber heater covering up an adiabatic floor. In addition, surface oil-film visualization were performed to characterize the macroscopic flow-field around a module.
To analyze the transfer characteristics of $CO_2$ extinguishant when extinguishant is injected into a closed space similar to a marine engine room, a numerical simulation was performed. Flow and Concentration fields are calculated according with the variation of the fire plume,s location. The results show that tile variation of fire plumes, location greatly effected on the flow patterns and the characteristics of $CO_2$ extinguishant transfer. In case of the fire plume located at left region of the 2nd floor center in the engine room consisted of first and second floor, The effects similar to the air curtain is found and cut off the mass transfer. In the characteristics with hight, the iso-concentration line below the extinguishable limit is formed in the left region of the 1st and 2nd floor center after the $CO_2$ extinguishant is completely injected. therefore I think that the results of this study are considered to arrange the $CO_2$ injection nozzles for the $CO_2$ fire fighting equipments.
