  • The performance of navigational equipments is advanced, but the importance of the practical capability of bridge device by ship's officer, ie the ability of risk prediction and the obligation of avoidance for reducing sea accident, has been constantly augmenting. This abilities and obligation may be represented in the cognitive competence of navigational officer. Different levels of ship's bridge team was carried out rescue maneuvering by ship handling simulator and then it analyzed the resulting of initial response in cognitive progress by case based on trajectory. Further, the data will be used as training and evaluation model of cognitive situation.

  • In this paper, we present multi-sensor data fusion for telematics application. Successful telematics can be realized through the integration of navigation and spatial information. The well-determined acquisition of vehicle's position plays a vital role in application service. The development of GPS is used to provide the navigation data, but the performance is limited in areas where poor satellite visibility environment exists. Hence, multi-sensor fusion including IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit), GPS(Global Positioning System), and DMI (Distance Measurement Indicator) is required to provide the vehicle's position to service provider and driver behind the wheel. The multi-sensor fusion is implemented via algorithm based on Kalman filtering technique. Navigation accuracy can be enhanced using this filtering approach. For the verification of fusion approach, land vehicle test was performed and the results were discussed. Results showed that the horizontal position errors were suppressed around 1 meter level accuracy under simulated non-GPS availability environment. Under normal GPS environment, the horizontal position errors were under 40㎝ in curve trajectory and 27㎝ in linear trajectory, which are definitely depending on vehicular dynamics.

  • In this paper, a GNSS-based AGV system was designed, and steering tested on a golf cart using electric wires in order to confirm the control efficiency of the low speed vehicle which used only position information of GNSS. After analyzed the existing AGVs system, we developed controller and steering algorithm using GNSS based position information. To analyze the performance of the developed controller and steering algorithm, straight-type and circle-type trajectory test are executed. The results show that steering performance of GNSS-based AGV system is ${\pm}\;0.2m$ for a reference trajectory.

  • Automated road map generation poses significant research challenges since GPS-based navigation systems prevail in most general vehicles. This paper proposes an automated detecting method for intersection points using GPS vehicle trajectory data without any background digital map information. The proposed method exploits the fact that the trajectories are generally split into several branches at an intersection point. One problem in previous work on this intersection detecting is that those approaches require stopping points and direction changes for every testing vehicle. However our approach does not require such complex auxiliary information for intersection detecting. Our method is based on partial trajectory matching among trajectories since a set of incoming trajectories split other trajectory cluster branches at the intersection point. We tested our method on a real GPS data set with 1266 vehicles in Gangnam District, Seoul. Our experiment showed that the proposed method works well at some bigger intersection points in Gangnam. Our system scored 75% sensitivity and 78% specificity according to the test data. We believe that more GPS trajectory data would make our system more reliable and applicable in a practice.

  • In the offshore crane system, the requirements on the operating safety are extremely high due to many external factors. This paper describes a model for studying the dynamic behavior of the offshore crane system. The obtained model allows to evaluate the fluctuations of the load arising from the elasticity of the rope. Especially, in this paper, the authors design control system in which just winch rotation angle and rope tension are used without load position information. The controller design based on input-output feedback linearization theory is presented which can handle the effect of the elasticity of the rope and track the load target trajectory input. Besides that, a full order observer is designed to estimate unknown states. Finally, By the experiment results, the effectiveness of proposed control method is evaluated and verified.

  • This paper presents a collision free mobile robot navigation based on the fuzzy inference fusion model in unkonown environments using multi-ultrasonic sensor. Six ultrasonic sensors are used for the collision avoidance approach where CCD camera sensors is used for the trajectory following approach. The fuzzy system is composed of three inputs which are the six distance sensors and the camera, two outputs which are the left and right velocities of the mobile robot's wheels, and three cost functions for the robot's movement, direction, obstacle avoidance, and rotation. For the evaluation of the proposed algorithm, we performed real experiments with mobile robot with ultrasonic sensors. The results show that the proposed algorithm is apt to identify obstacles in unknown environments to guide the robot to the goal location safely.

  • A robust intelligent algorithm for AGV navigation control is presented here based on both magnetic and gyro sensors to track a reference trajectory. Since the proposed system uses an intermittent array of short magnetic tape strips, it lends itself to a very easy installation and maintenance compared to other types of positioning references such as electric wire, magnets, RF and laser beacons. The neural network is to predict the lateral deviation of the AGV in the intervals where no magnetic tape references are available. Further, the use of intelligent control ensures a robust and flexible control performance. Computer simulation of AGV control demonstrates its adequate tracking performances even where the sensor information is not available. Real experiments using Samsung AGV are also on the way for real verification

  • Crowd evacuation simulation is an important research issue for designing reasonable building layouts and planning more effective evacuation routes. The social force model (SFM) is an important pedestrian movement model, and is widely used in crowd evacuation simulations. The model can effectively simulate crowd evacuation behaviors in a simple scene, but for a multi-obstacle scene, the model could result in some undesirable problems, such as pedestrian evacuation trajectory oscillation, pedestrian stagnation and poor evacuation routing. This paper analyzes the causes of these problems and proposes an improved SFM for complex multi-obstacle scenes. The new model adds navigation points and walking shortest route principles to the SFM. Based on the proposed model, a crowd evacuation simulation system is developed, and the crowd evacuation simulation was carried out in various scenes, including some with simple obstacles, as well as those with multi-obstacles. Experiments show that the pedestrians in the proposed model can effectively bypass obstacles and plan reasonable evacuation routes.

  • This paper addresses a formation navigation issue for a group of mobile robots passing through an environment with either static or moving obstacles meanwhile keeping a fixed formation shape. Based on Lyapunov function and graph theory, a NN formation control is proposed, which guarantees to maintain a formation if the formation pattern is $C^k,\;k\geq1$. In the process of navigation, the leader can generate a proper trajectory to lead formation and avoid moving obstacles according to the obtained information. An evolutionary computational technique using particle swarm optimization (PSO) is proposed for motion planning so that the formation is kept as $C^1$ function. The simulation results demonstrate that this algorithm is effective and the experimental studies validate the formation ability of the multiple mobile robots system.

  • This paper propose a fuzzy inference model for obstacle avoidance for a mobile robot with an active camera, which is intelligently searching the goal location in unknown environments using command fusion, based on situational command using an vision sensor. Instead of using "physical sensor fusion" method which generates the trajectory of a robot based upon the environment model and sensory data. In this paper, "command fusion" method is used to govern the robot motions. The navigation strategy is based on the combination of fuzzy rules tuned for both goal-approach and obstacle-avoidance. We describe experimental results obtained with the proposed method that demonstrate successful navigation using real vision data.
