  • The Scientific balloon is a flight system that could recover an entire platform at the end of the mission. The recovery takes place mainly in low-density populated areas, taking into account for the possible damage to the human life and public safety. In Republic of Korea, on the other hand, marine recovery should be considered due to the dense mountainous terrain and restrictions of the peninsula. In this operating environment, the envelope must be recovered because of severe marine pollution that may occur after the splashdown. Therefore, in this study, the separation device that consists of a location tracker and the waterproof system were developed. The device includes data transmission/reception, separation, and waterproof systems which are manufactured considering the environmental condition of the Korea. The performance of the device and the trajectory of the envelope were verified by conducting a separation test of a 20km platform at a target altitude and the recovery of the zero-pressure balloon.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study is to examine change in adolescent depression across time and to determine the relation between individual and neighborhood socioeconomic status (SES) and depression. Methods: This study employed multilevel latent growth analysis using longitudinal data from Korea Children and Youth Panel Survey. A sample of this study consists of 2,351 adolescents who were in first grade of middle school in 2010. Results: Results showed that both initial level and downward trajectory of depression varied significantly across individuals as well as across neighborhoods. On the individual level, self-rated economic condition(b=-0.203, p<.001) was related to the initial level of depression. Adolescents whose father had a high educational level(b=0.028, p<.001) or whose mother had a low educational level(b=-0.022, p=.011) had lower rates of decline in adolescent depression. On the neighborhood level, neighborhood deprivation index (b=0.003, p=.019) and gini coefficient(b=0.124, p=.040) were associated with lower rates of decline in depression. Conclusions: Low SES in adolescence is correlated with worse mental health, especially depression. Social disparities in depression likely originate before adulthood. The findings argue for the importance of understanding depression in adolescence from a multilevel or ecological framework.

  • In this paper, we quantitatively analyzed the required UAV(Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) failure rate of small UAV (≤25kg) based on the harm to human caused by UAV crash to fly over the populated area. We compute the number of harm to human when UAV falls to the ground at certain descent point by using population density, car traffic, building to land ratio, number of floors of building data of urban area and UAV descent trajectory modeling. Based on this, the maximum allowable UAV failure rate is calculated to satisfy the Target Level of Safety(TLS) for each UAV descent point. Then we can generate the failure rate requirement in the form of map. Finally, we divide UAV failure rate into few categories and analyze the possible flight area for each failure rate categories. Considering the Youngwol area, it is analyzed that the UAV failure rate of at least 10-4 (failure/flight hour) is required to access the residential area.

  • Determining the cause of a traffic signal violation is difficult if the drivers' claims are contradictory. In this study, the process of identifying signal violations using a simulation was presented based on cases. First, statements from the driver or witness whose cause of the signal violation is unclear were excluded. Second, the final position, final location, damaged area, steering status, braking status, and road surface traces of the vehicle were collected. The impact point was investigated from the stop line. Third, simulation data were modified and entered until the collision situation of the accident vehicle and the final stop position were met. Fourth, if the simulation results were consistent with the crash situation, the facts were verified by cross-validation to conform to the driver's statement. The results of the simulation showed that the Lexus entered the left turn signal in the intersection at approximately 55 km/h. In comparison, the Sonata driver saw the vehicle straight ahead at the intersection, entered the 72 km/h intersection, and collided with the Lexus. Therefore, the Sonata was identified as a signal violation, and the claims of the Sonata driver, witnesses, and police were contradictory.

  • When calculating an intersection collision speed using a formula, it is very difficult to grasp the degree of deceleration of a vehicle after the collision unless there is road surface trace in the entire section where each vehicle moved from the point of collision to their final positions after the collision. A vehicle's motion trajectory shows an irregular curve after a collision due to the effects of inertia based on the driving characteristics of the vehicle, the eccentric force according to the collision site, and the collision speed. Therefore, it is very important to set the appropriate departure angle after a collision for accurate collision speed analysis. In this study, based on experimental collision data using a computer simulation (PC-Crash), the correlation between an appropriate vehicle departure angle and the post-collision speed was analyzed, and then, a regression analysis model was derived. Through this, we propose a method to calculate collision speed by applying only the vehicle departure angle in some types of collisions for traffic accidents at intersections.

  • In this study, data from the 11th year of the Korean Welfare Panel Study (2016), the 12th year (2017), the 13th year (2018), and the 14th year (2019) were used to verify whether drinking problems in adults had an end-to-end effect on depression. The analysis showed that, first, the initial value of depression has a static (+) relationship with the initial value of problem drinking, and a significant relationship with the rate of change in problem drinking. Second, the supply and demand households showed a static relationship with the initial value of depression, the initial value of problem drinking. Third, in the case of people with disabilities, the relationship between the initial value of depression, the initial value of problem drinking, and the amulet (-). Therefore, it was suggested that the development of drinking problem prevention programs and education should be actively carried out in school education before adulthood.

  • Background Fellowship training is becoming more popular in plastic surgery, with over half of residents pursuing advanced training. Here, we investigate how clinical and research fellowship training impacts career trajectory and scholastic achievement in academic plastic surgery. Methods Plastic surgery faculty members, from programs recognized by the American Council of Academic Plastic Surgeons, were identified using institutional Web sites. Data extracted included faculty demographics, training history, academic positions, and research productivity. Continuous and categorical variables were compared using t-tests and chi-square, respectively. Results In total, 949 faculty members were included, with 657 (69%) having completed fellowship training. Integrated program residents were more likely to complete a fellowship when compared with independent residents (p < 0.0001). Fellowship trained faculty were more likely to have graduated from a higher ranked residency program, in terms of both overall and research reputation (p = 0.005 and p = 0.016, respectively). When controlling for years in practice, there was no difference found in number of publications, Hirsch index (h-index), or National Institutes of Health funding between faculty between the two cohorts (p > 0.05). In a subanalysis comparing hand, craniofacial, microsurgery, and research fellowships, those who completed a research fellowship had higher h-indices and were more likely to reach full professor status (p < 0.001 and p = 0.001, respectively). Fellowship training had no effect on being promoted to Chief/Chair of departments (p = 0.16). Conclusion Fellowship training is common among academic plastic surgeons. In this study, both clinical and research fellowships were associated with various aspects of academic success. However, fellowship training alone did not affect attainment of leadership positions.

  • In this paper, we propose a graph-based user route control for rapidly conducting virus inspections in emergency situations (eg, COVID-19) and a framework that can simulate this on a city map. A* and navigation mesh data structures, which are widely used pathfinding algorithms in virtual environments, are effective when applied to CS(Computer science) problems that control Agents in virtual environments because they guide only a fixed static movement path. However, it is not enough to solve the problem by applying it to the real COVID-19 environment. In particular, there are many situations to consider, such as the actual road traffic situation, the size of the hospital, the number of patients moved, and the patient processing time, rather than using only a short distance to receive a fast virus inspection.

  • The purpose of this study is to longitudinally analyze impact factors on library use. One of library use indicators, the number of circulated books was statistically analyzed with latent growth model and growth mixture model. Library data from 2014 to 2019 were collected from the National Library Statistics System, and 846 public libraries were analyzed. As results, the number of circulated books were decreased, but it was tempered. Next, with controlling the factor affecting the dependent variable, the size of collection and the number of participants in reading programs provided by public libraries were statistically significant. Lastly, 5 classes were identified by applying the growth mixture model, and the number of librarians was significantly associated with trajectory class membership.

  • Objective : The facial nerve trace on the ipsilateral side of the vestibular schwannoma was reconstructed by diffusion tensor imaging tractography to identify the adjacent relationship between the facial nerve and the tumor, and to improve the level of intraoperative facial nerve protection. Methods : The clinical data of 30 cases of unilateral vestibular schwannoma who underwent tumor resection via retrosigmoid approach were collected between January 2019 and December 2020. All cases underwent magnetic resonance imaging examination before operation. Diffusion tensor imaging and anatomical images were used to reconstruct the facial nerve track of the affected side, so as to predict the course of the nerve and its adjacent relationship with the tumor, to compare the actual trace of the facial nerve during operation, verify the degree of coincidence, and evaluate the nerve function (House-Brackmann grade) after surgery. Results : The facial nerve of 27 out of 30 cases could be displayed by diffusion tensor imaging tractography, and the tracking rate was 90% (27/30). The intraoperative locations of facial nerve shown in 25 cases were consistent with the preoperative reconstruction results. The coincidence rate was 92.6% (25/27). The facial nerves were located on the anterior middle part of the tumor in 14 cases, anterior upper part in eight cases, anterior lower part in seven cases, and superior polar in one case. Intraoperative facial nerve anatomy was preserved in 30 cases. Among the 30 patients, total resection was performed in 28 cases and subtotal resection in two cases. The facial nerve function was evaluated 2 weeks after operation, and the results showed grade I in 12 cases, grade II in 16 cases and grade III in two cases. Conclusion : Preoperative diffusion tensor imaging tractography can clearly show the trajectory and adjacent position of the facial nerve on the side of vestibular schwannoma, which is beneficial to accurately identify and effectively protect the facial nerve during the operation, and is worthy of clinical application and promotion.
