This study was executed to investigate the components making passenger satisfied or unsatisfied for the domestic train seats, and the patterns of the behavior that passenger taking in the train. These results would help in developing the high-speed train seat that adapts the Korean body structure and emotion. This investigation was done for 436 persons who taking in Saemaeul, Mukungwha, Tongil train during the January 1998. In addition subjective evaluations for texture properties, color, and pattern of the seat covers were investigated for 32 subjects in the lab under the controled condition in order to find to which one Korean prefer. The result shows that it is important to enhance the ride quality, and for coverage passenger prefers the soft texture, blue tone color, and abstract pattern.
Railroad transportation system has experienced major changes due to KTX introduction. Kyungbu corridor especially Seoul to Cheonan has line capacity problem and its solution has been a primary concern to researchers and policy decision makers. This study explored pattern of train operation between Seoul and Cheonan after the introduction of KTX in 2004. Both the number of trains and available seat capacity per day have increased but maximum number of trains per specific hour has not been changed much. Demand for train shows that if concentrated in a specific time, so number of trains during the peak hour should be increased. But, it is difficult ? 새 line capacity, so increasing seat capacity per train might be an option. An increase in an avaliable sear should be considered the characteristics of each train lines.
This study investigates the effects of seat-design elements such as seating arrangement, shape, and height on speech privacy in high-speed trains. For the evaluation of speech privacy, acoustic simulation software was used to reproduce room acoustical conditions in passenger cars on the basis of in-situ measurement data. The influences of speech source directivity and source height on privacy distance ($r_P$) were investigated, and it was found that $r_P$ determined using an omni-directional source was relatively shorter than that determined using a directional source. It was also found that $r_P$ decreased when the source height was lower than the height of the seat-back because the seat-back blocked the propagation of speech from the sound source. The effect of seating arrangement was not significant when comparing the vis-a-vis seating and one-side seating arrangements. In addition, among the alternative seat-designs, the seats that block the space between the seats and cover the space near the ear were found to show significantly enhanced speech privacy in high-speed train passenger cars.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the train seat dimensions suitable for keeping comfortable postures. We designed a special experimental seat of which the lengths and angles are adjustable separately. Seat dimensions keeping subjects comfortable were measured for the restricted posture and the extended posture. The significant differences of dimensions fur two postures were analyzed, and the differences were found on backrest-seatpan angles, length of backrest and so on. The dimension differences fur the levels of height and weight were also found out. Some dimensions were correlated with subjects' height and weight..
In this paper, ISO2631-1(1997) was used to assess the vibration and shock transmitted by train seat with respect to possible effects on human health. Evaluations have been performed on the seat acceleration measured in two type of train, Saemaulho and Mugunghwaho. For each train, limiting daily exposure durations were estimated by comparing the frequency weighted root mean square(i.e., r.m.s) acceleration and the vibration dose values(i.e., VDV), calculated according to ISO2631-1(1997) with exposure limits, health guidance caution zones.
KTX (Korea Train eXpress) is launched as the $5^{th}$ develop a ride-comfort model for high-speed rail pasengers using structural equation model (SEM). Both qualitative and quantitative factors affecting ride-comfort were investigated, and employed to construct a comprehensive ride-comfort model. The SEM model was built with twenty measurement variables and seven latent variables for the evaluation of ride-comfort of high-speed train passenger. A total of six hundreds thirty two subjects participated in the evaluation using face-to-face survey method. As a result, the proposed SEM model model fitnes (GFI=0.93). According to the results, overall ride-comfort was significantly affected by the seat-, fatigue-, interior-related, and customer satisfaction variables such as fare. Among the engineering design variables of high-speed train, seat-related variables were identified as critical factors of the ride-comfort. It is expected that the result of this study could be useful for the enhancement of ride comfort in next generation KTX.
In this paper, magnetic field inside and outside express railway train is analysed by use of finite element method. We find that high permeability material reduces magnetic field inside train more than thick material. We also know windows in train does not have influence on magnetic field at seat in train.
The major subject of this paper is to develop the concept fur a Korea high speed train system and recommend to train configuration. High speed train configurations are basically concerned traction power(train configurations with concentrated; CPT or distributed Power system: DPT) and train design(single car as compared with articulated bogies). The result of configuration, a advantages and disadvantaged were necessitated by different train configurations; -distributed underfloor power have an increased length for the seats by 15% as compared with the concentrated power trait - articulated trainsets are characterised by less of number of bogies and reduced values of mass, train resistance, noise and vibration. from the result, the optimized train concept combining high seat capacity per train length with low weight and train resistance is 400m long, single -floor train composed of two symmetrically arranged half trainsets. Therefore, at this work recommended distributed train system However, the final decision of Korea high speed train configuration was concentrated power train and articulated bogie system. The configuration of trainset was 20cars included 2 power cars, 4 motorized cars and 14 trailer cars.
In this paper we present the effects that valve train design parameters and operating conditions have on the valve rotation properties of a diesel engine. Rotation of intake and exhaust valves are very closely related to the long term durability of diesel engines. of the valves do not rotate even at a rated engine speed, it causes the uneven wear of the valve seat and valve head contact area, which eventually shortens the engine life. Because the rated speed of a diesel engine is relatively lower than that of a gasoline engine, the operating condition of a diesel engine produces tough environment for valve rotation. Therefore, the valve rotation is an important problem which should be solved in the early stage of engine development. In this study, we developed a new technique to measure the valve rotation and shaking motion simultaneously using three proximity sensors. Valve train rotating properties of a diesel engine were measured under various engine operating conditions.
In this paper, the structural strength of a rolling stock seat were numerically evaluated under several design load conditions based on the UIC requirements. The rot]ins stock seat was designed for the high speed train of a Chinese conventional line. To maximize its weight reduction and structural strength, an aluminium alloy, ALDC8-T5, was applied to the base frame, side frames and armrests. The designed seat frame satisfied the strength requirements on inertia loads and fatigue test conditions. However, it couldn't satisfy the requirements on the static test conditions of UIC 566 OR. Therefore, some design modifications were suggested and numerically evaluated whether the static test requirements could be satisfied or not.
