Survey Analysis for Resting Space Design of Subway Driver (지하철 기관사 휴게 공간 디자인을 위한 요구조사 분석)

  • There is an increasing trend each year in the number of subway users due to increase in the traffic volume. As the number of train service has risen, the subway drivers are given heavy work and from the same, are put at risk of mental health deterioration due to stress. As this is directly connected to safety, there is an urgent need for improvement of the situation. Therefore, as a way to appropriately relieve such stress, resting space where mental and physical energy can be recharged is necessary. Thus, this research conducted a survey of demand with subway drivers as subjects in order to provide resting space that can offer healthy rest and increase work effectiveness. 50 subway drivers were the subjects of this survey. As a result of analyzing the contents of the survey, environmental satisfaction was shown to be the lowest compared to psychological and morphological satisfaction. In the case of sleeping room, they wanted more comfortable and individual space. And the waiting room had the highest rate of usage frequency. The storage space was where the subway drivers showed the strongest attachment and was shown to be the only personal space. Most were shown to be satisfied with the outdoor space, but it had the lowest usage frequency. In addition, it is nessasery customized storage cabinet designed for subway drivers should be produced, which can effectively arrange the limited space. I hope that these direction of improvement can increase the healthy rest and work effectiveness of the locomotive engineers as it is directly being connected to the health and safety of the citizens.

  • As the development of ICT has made it easier to collect various traffic information, research on creating new traffic attributes is drawing attention. Estimation and forecasts of demand and traffic volume are one of the main indicators that are essential to traffic operation, assuming that the traffic pattern at a particular node or link is repeated. Traditionally, a survey method was used to demonstrate this similarity on trip behavior. However, the method was limited to achieving high accuracy with high costs and responses that relied on the respondents' memory. Recently, as traffic data has become easier to gather through ETC system, smart card, studies are performed to identify the regularity of trip in various ways. In, this study, route-level trip data collected in Daegu metropolitan city were analyzed to confirm that individual traveler forms a spatially similar trip chain over several days. For this purpose, we newly define the concept of spatial trip regularity and assess the spatial difference between daily trip chains using the sequence alignment algorithm, Dynamic Time Warping. In addition, we will discuss the applications as the indicators of fixed traffic demand and transportation services.

  • In order to solve the traffic problem which comes to be serious at day, the impotance of Intelligent Transport Systems(ITS) that accomplish information gathering, information processing, information offering with up-to-date scientific techniques is coming to be high. But many local self-government group want to solve the traffic problems with introduction of ITS, however, it is a actual condition where the systematic effective analysis is insufficient. This study establishes the methodology of effective analysis as introduction of ITS, which refers to the inside and outside of the country instance. And then, this research accomplishes direct and indirect effective analysis with the case study. As a result of SUWON ITS introduction effect analysis, the travel speed of TRC mode is increased 31%, and the delay of TRC mode is diminished 43.9% than before introducing case. Most of the citizen felt the improvement effect of ITS system operation, and the majority wanted the expansion of the ITS system in survey. The analysis of economic result that B/C ratio is 5.12. So, The the effect and economic propriety of the ITS enterprise appeared with the fact that it is sufficient.

Comparison of Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Road Transportation in Local Cities/Counties of Gyeonggi Province by Calculation Methodologies (도로수송부문의 온실가스 배출량 산정방법에 따른 경기도 시·군별 배출량 비교)

  • The Korean government decided to reduce 30% of GHG (greenhouse gas) emissions BAU in 2020. Since many efforts to reduce emissions are urgently needed in Korea, the central administrative organization urges local governments to establish their own reduction schemes. Among many GHG emission categories, the emission from mobile source in Gyeonggi Province accounted for 25.3% of total emissions in 2007 and further the emission from road transport sector occupied the most dominant portion in this transportation category. The objective of this study was to compare 3 types of GHG emissions from road transport sector in 31 local cities/counties of Gyeonggi Province, which have been estimated by Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 methodologies. As results, the GHG emission rates by the Tier 1 and Tier 2 were $19,991kt-CO_2\;Eq/yr$ and $18,511kt-CO_2\;Eq/yr$, respectively. On the other hand, the emission rate by Tier 3 excluding a branch road emission portion was $18,051kt-CO_2\;Eq/yr$. In addition, the total emission rate including all the main and branch road portions in Gyeonggi Province was $24,152kt-CO_2\;Eq/yr$, which was estimated by a new Tier 3 methodology. Based on this study, we could conclude that Tier 3 is a reasonable methodology than Tier 1 or Tier 2. However, more accurate and less uncertain methodology must be developed by expanding traffic survey areas and adopting a suitable model for traffic volumes.

An Analysis of Operational Effects of Adjacent Double Roundabouts (쌍구형 회전교차로 도입에 따른 운영효과 연구)

  • This was a study on the ultimate effect and characteristics of introducing a roundabout through a review of literature on the subject of roundabout. In order to examine an effect produced when roundabout is substituted for ordinary signal-controlled intersection operated at Daego Five-way Intersection and Seongmo Five-way Intersection located in Junggu, Daejeon Metropolitan City, site to be studied, the produced effect was analyzed through comparison between before and after introducing roundabouts in series at Daego Five-way Intersection and Seongmo Five-way Intersection by using microscopic traffic simulation program VISSIM widely used for analyzing an effect of roundabout based on a survey of geometric structure, traffic volume and signal interval on the site. As mentioned above, when Daego Five-way Intersection and Seongmo Five-way Intersection was changed to roundabout, a positive effect was produced on average speed and delay time in comparison with the existing status. It is possible to expect that roundabout can be more efficiently operated when 2 places on the site are changed to double roundabout than when separately changed to roundabouts.

On the Effect of Sea Borne Cargo Movement to Urban Transportation in the Pusan Port -Container Transport Oriented- (부산 항만물동량이 도시교통에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구 - 컨테이너 화물 운송을 중심으로 -)

  • The Port of Pusan, the largest port in Korea, handled 23% of total sea borne cargo movement, 14% of imported cargo, 58% of exported cargo and 95% of container cargo in 1989. Also the port of Pusan has been played a key role in handing container cargo throughout the last 10 years. The paper is aimed to survey the effect of sea borne cargo movement to urban transportation, that is, to find traffic volume arising by general/bulk cargoes through the port and to estimate vehicle rated of container tractor tailer on the roads between terminal including conventional piers and ODCY, and finally the following results are obtained. (1) AADV of truck to transport general/bulk cargoes are 6,322 units in 1989,and routes penetrate into the center of city and pass through the most of urban arterials. (2) In the container transport, if HVEF is adopted to 3 of tractor trailer, AVR in each transport freeway 13.7%. (3) IF HVEF is adopted to 6 of tractor trailer. AVR are as follows: BooDoo-Ro 44.1%, WooAm-Ro 39.3%, SooYoung-Ro 17.8%, Urban freeway 20.3%. Based upon these results, the following suggestions were drawn : o ODCY scattered around the city should be unified in a few groups to raise port productivity. o Rail service for inland container transportation should be escalated to relieve urban traffic congestion. o Coastal feeder service between terminal and hinterland should be studied to restrict the penetration of container tractor trailer into the central parts in the urban areas. o Exclusive freeway system for effective container transportation should be implemented to reduce urban traffic delay.

  • At the 104th IMO MSC, it was decided to make a code for the operation of MASS(Maritime Autonomous Surface Ship). In addition, the government announced a roadmap for preemptive regulatory innovation for autonomous ships and identified 31 related regulatory issues and suggested improvements to revitalize the autonomous ship industry. This study aims to analyze the ship turning left on the route as a study on how to operate the route system when operating MASS. We intend to derive the current congestion degree of the special area of Busan New Port through maritime traffic survey and use simulation to derive the congestion degree of the special area due to the size of ships and increase in traffic volume. We would like to propose an appropriate amount of traffic (the number of L-converted). It is believed that the research results can be used as basic data for route operation when operating not only current ships but also MASS.

Development of an Actuated Traffic Signal Control Strategy to Minimize Dilemma Zone (딜레마 구간 최소화를 위한 감응식 신호제어전략의 개발)

  • Most of the traffic accidents are a rear-end collision and a clash generated in the signalized intersection on the local roads. So, it is demanded that the high-quality of signal control and dilemma zone control. According to the cases generated by foreign countries, we established the strategies which are composed of Volume-Density Control, strategy of the dilemma zone control using R-detector (microwave detector) In Japan and EC-DC Control. MOEs(Measure of effectiveness) are car numbers in the dilemma zone , max-out probability in the safe side and the average stopping delay in the progress side. We choose a signalized intersection in rural highway to analyze the effect of the strategies and practiced an on-the-spot survey. The result of the survey is applied to the basic data in the simulator. Consequently, strategy of the dilemma zone control using R-detector(microwave detector) in Japan is the best effective in the safe side and EC-DC control is the best in the progress side. Based on the result, we developed the effective strategy of the signal control . This strategy is composed of the strategy of Japan and the detector on the stopping line used in the EC-DC control. On the result of the analysis, new strategy is the best effective in two sides.

A Basic Study on Establishment of Sea Trial Prohibition Waterway Based on Marine Traffic Survey (해상교통량 조사 기반 시운전금지해역 설정 기초 연구)

  • Korea has very strong shipbuilding industry in the world, so many new ships are constructed in Korean shipyards. These built vessels are carrying out sea trial at sea before delivering to shipowner, and sea trial ships cause navigation risk to other passing vessels to accomplish sea trial tests as quick turning, zigzag maneuvering and crash astern etc. in traffic congestion conditions. It occurred more than 1 collision accident related sea trial for recent 5 years. It has been increased about 30% of risk because of navigation of sea trial vessel by marine traffic flow simulation. This paper analyzed marine traffic density surveyed by AIS data for 7 days, and investigated position of marine accidents for 5 years in Korean coastal waterway, it established the sea trial prohibition areas as 10/100 level of total marine traffic volume, which is considered no danger for ship operator. This analyzed maritime safety law for setting of the prohibition waters to propose the basic legal system. It makes contribution to marine pollution prevention by setting of the sea trial prohibition water to improve the ship's navigation safety.

Study on the Risk Assessment of Collision Accidents Between Island Bridge and Ship Using an Image Processing Method (영상처리기법을 활용한 연도교와 선박간의 충돌사고 위험성 평가에 관한 연구)

  • Tourism projects through islands in the waters of Sinan-gun became active, and as a result, a total of 13 marine bridges connecting islands were completed. However, the marine bridge constructed in the fairway is dangerous for traffic. Particularly, in the case of the marine bridge connecting two islands, the width of the fairway is extremely narrow, therefore the risk is higher. In this study, we evaluated the risk of collision between marine bridge piers and ships using the IALA Waterway Risk Assessment Program (IWRAP), a risk assessment model for port waterways, based on a maritime traffic survey on the coastal bridge in Sinan-gun. The results, indicated that No.1 Sinan bridge had the highest probability of collision and most of the transit ships were coastal passenger ships. In addition, No.1 Sinan bridge was the place where the most collision accidents occurred among the marine bridge piers in the target sea, and the cause this study was analyzed. An analysis of the satellite images of the sea environment of No.1 Sinan bridge using an image processing method, confirmed that obstacles that could not be seen in the chart existed nearby the bridge. As a result, traffic was observed to be concentrated in one direction, unlike two-way traffic, which is a method of inducing traffic of bridges to avoid obstacles. The risk cause analysis method using the image processing technique of this study is expected to be used as a basic research method for analyzing the risk factors of island bridge in the future.
