The enlargement of existing tunnels is required to cope with problems related to traffic congestion. Sometimes, the tunnel traffic must be maintained through existing tunnels during their reconstruction due to non-availability of detours. And excavation by drill and blasting is desired for widening a hard rock tunnel. In this case, the road must be closed for some period for blasting through analyzing of traffic volume. In this paper, a case study on some traffic countermeasures for tunnel enlargement by blasting was performed. And the traffic flow characteristics of some tunnels in domestic main city were analyzed.
The Istanbul Strait is one of the important waterways in the world. And its southern entrance has a highly congested local traffic. Till now there are several studies regarding how the Istanbul Strait is dangerous to navigate and how those dangers can be mitigated. But there is no study regarding local traffic which is posing great collision risk. In a certain traffic area, marine traffic safety assessment parameters are traffic volume, frequency of collision avoidance maneuver, traffic density, traffic flow and potential encounter, In this paper local traffic volume, traffic flow and potential encounter number of local traffic vessels and possibility of collision are investigated in order to find degree of danger at the southern entrance of the Istanbul Strait. Finally by utilizing those, risky areas are determined for southern entrance of the Istanbul Strait. Results have been compared to a previous study regarding risk analysis at congested areas of the Istanbul Strait (Aydogdu, 2006) and consistency of the results were presented.
We suggest a new spatial linear interpolation method to substitute linear interpolation method which widely used in transportation engineering to impute the missing daily traffic volume. We layout daily traffic volume which is time series data over the virtual lattice space to consider the spatial correlation. We used Moran Index to evaluate the spatial correlations among daily traffic volume in same week and same date traffic volume by week considering the circularity of daily traffic volume. For real application, we used daily traffic volume on November, 2004 provided by Korea Institute of Construction Technology(KICT) and transformed daily traffic volume to 4 times 7 virtual lattice space to reflect the spatial correlation. Finally we showed that the spatial linear interpolation method has good performance for missing data imputation based on MAPE, RMSE, and Theil's U criteria.

The variation in the traffic volume on any given roads is the reflection of its user's economic activities and life patterns. And traffic volume flows in every hour usually take different charateristics depending on the location and the function of the roads. This study produced the Monthly Adjustment Factor, Weekly Adjustment Factor and Design hourly Factor, each of which is the index indicating the traffic volume charaterirstics on the highways leading to the recreation areas in the mountainous and seaside tourist sites. Applying these results, it might be possible to calculate the optimal AADT (Annual Average Daily Traffic) and DHV (Design Hour Volume), also be a help to establish a traffic management policy. Finally, it hopes to promote new version of KHCM (Korea Highway Capacity Manual) which includes traffic volume characteristics on recreation areas.
While a year and a half has been passed since the launch of KTX service, traffic volume of Gyung-bu High Speed Railway is still much lower than the forecasted value. This situation has been badly affecting not only Korail's financial status but also KRNA's general railway construction projects as general public responds negatively to such projects as New Ho-nam Line Construction. This paper outlines traffic volume forecasting methodologies applied to construction of Gyung-bu High Speed Railway, identifies major causes of forecasting deviations. and finally extracts problems through comparison between the forecasted results and actual traffic volume.
Scanning worm increases network traffic load and result in severe network congestion because it is a self-replicating worm and send copies of itself to a number of hosts through the Internet. So an early detection system which can automatically detect scanning worms is needed to protect network from those attacks. Although many studies are conducted to detect scanning worms, most of them are focusing on the method using packet header information. The method using packet header information has long detection delay since it must examine the header information of all packets entering or leaving the network. Therefore we propose an algorithm to detect scanning worms using network traffic characteristics such as variance of traffic volume, differentiated traffic volume, mean of differentiated traffic volume, and product of mean traffic volume and mean of differentiated traffic volume. We verified the proposed algorithm by analyzing the normal traffic captured in the real network and the worm traffic generated by simulator. The proposed algorithm can detect CodeRed and Slammer which are not detected by existing algorithm. In addition, all worms were detected in early stage: Slammer was detected in 4 seconds and CodeRed and Witty were detected in 11 seconds.
The paper contains the data collection methods and procedures employed in the study to evaluate the operational effects of stop sign and signal control at diamond interchanges. An assessment of traffic control alternatives is described in terms of operational effects of queues and travel speed. Guidelines for installing signal control at diamond interchanges are provided in terms of internal volume, left turn proportion within internal volume, and the sum of internal and external volume. The specific traffic volume guidelines were developed based on a combination of these variables affecting operational performance.
Traffic data such as traffic volume, speed, and vehicle Class are very important basic data for the plan and design of highway. Based on traffic data, the future service level of a specific highway and geometry of newly constructed or expended road is predicted and determined. The Ministry of Construction & Transportation has simultaneously surveyed coverage count and permanent count at highways since 1985. Traffic volume survey sections were determined at jointed nodes of highways and jointed nodes of highways and other roads such as freeway and local highway. Volume survey was performed at these sections. The premise to decide these sections is assumed that links between jointed nodes of main highways exhibit similar traffic characteristics. Recently, due to the change of highway geometries such as construction of detour road and installations of traffic facilities such as installation of media, traffic characteristics of the existing traffic volume survey sections was changed. To reflect these changes, traffic characteristics at homogeneous road sections was widely evaluated and analyzed. Using Genetic Algorithms, a model was developed for the evaluation of traffic characteristics at homogeneous road sections. Traffic volume survey sections were then determined through the application of the developed model for current traffic system.
The impact of a considerable increase in traffic volume on the emission and concentrations of air pollutants was investigated at three beaches (Haeundae (HB), Gwanganri (GB), and Songjeong (SB)) in Busan during beach opening period (BOP) in 2011. During the BOP, passenger car was the major vehicle type, followed by taxi, and van. CO was the major contributor of total air pollutant emissions followed by NOx, VOC, and $PM_{10}$. For the temporal variation of the emission of air pollutants during the BOP, it was generally the highest in the afternoon followed by the evening and morning, except for SB. For the spatial variation of their emission, it was the highest at GB followed by SB and HB. The emissions of air pollutants during the BOP were generally higher than those during the Non-BOP, except for HB. In contrast, the significant impact of the traffic volume increase on the concentrations of air pollutants at monitoring sites near the three beaches during the BOP were not found compared to the Non-BOP due to the significant distances between monitoring sites of air pollutants and monitoring sites of traffic volume at the beaches.
Tire wear particles(TWPs), regarded as a microplastic, is generated in significant quantities each year and exist in various spaces and have a negative impact on the surrounding environment. Particularly, roadside environments fall within the direct influence of TWPs, necessitating proactive investigation for contamination management and response. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the soil acidity and electrical conductivity(EC) and TWPs in the roadside soil of six sites based on traffic volume. The analysis revealed that the soil in all sites exhibited subacidity, and there were no significant differences in EC. Microscopic and FT-IR analysis revealed the presence of microscopic particles in soil samples that exhibited common visual characteristics of TWPs. In the road with the highest traffic volume, 48,300 TWPs were detected per unit area. Furthermore, a proportional relationship between traffic volume and TWPs particles was established. However, influences other than traffic volume on TWPs particle count within the soil were observed. Therefore, for the management of TWPs contaminated roadside soil, a proactive response is necessary in areas with high traffic volumes. However, in order to effectively address the factors contributing to the generation and dispersion of TWPs, further research is required with a multidimensional approach.
